It was in the year 1922, that 25 officers of the army took a decision to insure one another vehicles, and slowly in this way became a fully integrated financial service company of the United States. We have always remained true to the founding values, of service loyalty as well as integrity. Since we are not a public traded company, we are not answerable to our stockholders, but only to our members. Most of our members rely on our product and services, in order to meet the financial needs. The privilege of membership can be handed down to the children and grandchildren.

I have been a USAA customer for over 25 years now and have had nothing but excellent service from them. I have filed several claims over the years both auto and home. Yes I had difficulty at times reaching someone, but I have that same problem when I call AT&T, or the water company or the electric company. I have had long hold times with them, adjusters who say they will call me back but never do. In fact State Farm has "teams" to handle claims and you can never get the same answer twice from their teams. USAA is not perfect, but it is far better than any other company I have done business with. Their insurance premiums are more than competitive with the rest of the industry. If you are paying high premiums then stop causing accidents or getting tickets.

Every time I turn around all they do is raise our rates. I have caught them in a number of errors where they incorrectly raised our rates and they don't even apologize.

One of their drivers hit me and for the last month I received nothing but the run around and excuses from this company. I never received a call back or a letter advising me of what their intentions were as the responsible insurance company. My car has been fixed, but now they are trying to stick me with part of the rental car expense.

As a happy long-standing USAA member for auto coverage, I have recently shifted property coverage into their hands. Although you may have a slightly higher premium for certain coverages, the great customer service, dependability, and military-friendly support is well worth knowing you will be fully taken care of if and when the time comes.

I work for USAA and I know for a fact that I care about the person on the other end of the phone. For every bad experience someone reports there are 100's of happy members that do nothing but spread the word about how great USAA is. There is a reason we got BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE two years in a row by Business Week, BEST Credit Card by Consumer Reports, NUMBER ONE in Customer Advocacy, and rated higher than any other insurance company by JD Power and Associates. For those of you who had filed a bankruptcy, I can understand how frustrating it must be to have a restricted membership. USAA is a private company. Membership is selective to active duty military members and their dependents only. We cannot afford to take the losses that most companies can. I understand hard times happen and things improve over time and in no way whatsoever should you be talked down to, but if you caused a loss to USAA, you cause the other members to take on those losses and its not fair to those who have been fortunate enough to not have hardships to pay for it. USAA is great company, but its not there for charity. It has to protect the other members and the association otherwise we charge ridiculous interest rates on loans, raise insurance premiums for no reason what so ever. If you filed bankruptcy and have paid your loss and caused no other losses to USAA within 7 years your membership MIGHT be reinstated, its not always forever.

I had my 1996 Honda Accord insured by USAA since August of 2006. The monthly payments were great. When I decided to add on another car, that's when things got pretty bad. I wanted to add another vehicle and found out it was going to cost me more than two times what I was currently paying. When I questioned them, they cited the rising cost of insurance and that my car was a "high risk" vehicle. What's even worse is that when I got my bill there was a fee for nearly 55.00 dollars that I didn't even know about. I called USAA and asked what the fee was for - I was astonished when I found out I was actually being charged to add another car to my existing policy! I have never had an experience like this with another company and you can believe I dropped USAA Insurance like a hot potato!

USAA has been great to have for banking, auto insurance, and homeowners insurance. I have made several claims through USAA over the past decade and each claim has been fair. Compared to other banks and insurance companies, they are the most reasonably priced. They have taken care of my needs extremely efficiently. No matter how long you have been with USAA or any bank/insurance company, if you are late on a payment or file for bankruptcy, you better be prepared to take the consequences which is find a company who is willing to take an enormous risk on you.

Make no effort to move the claim forward or contact their insured, who admitted she was at fault to the responding police officer.
