Terrible customer service
Endless phone loops to get a human being who can actually semi-answer your question. Last year UHC informed us that they would not longer cover my son's genotropin. The UHC Pharmacist did not agree with the conclusive test results, nor the Chief of Pediatric Endocrinology at the prestigious hospital in our area. They gave us exactly two weeks to respond. We went through a lengthy appeals process. They did not pay for my son's medication even though it was listed a "covered" medication on their website during this entire process. We won the final appeal. We received one delivery of the medication followed by a letter that stated that UHC would not longer cover this medication. They also nicely added this zinger "we hope this does not inconvenience you." Our second bad experience. For 3 months they declined all of our family's claims. We got a bunch of bills all at once. The UHC rep that finally tracked down why said it was because they had identified another source of health coverage for us. Nope, we do not have any other source of health insurance coverage. We got it straightened out after many hours on the phone, it was identified as a "system glitch". Had UHC sent me a letter 3 months earlier this could have been resolved with a lot less drama. These are only two examples. During our 7 years with UHC they have had no less than 10 "system glitches" that have cost us hours of stress and time.
Poor Customer Service
I've been following up on my prescription coverage for 4 months while the bills keep racking up. They rejected once because I filled out the claim form wrong (I don't see how I did) and then rejected a second time because it was a duplicate claim.
What a crap comany
I am in charge of the health insurance for about 80 employees. I switched to United Health Care based on promises of greatness and lower premiums. Although we had all of our apps and MONEY to UHC timely, they did not set up one of the companies I am in charge of, so I had over 50 people without health insurance as of our renewal date. Two days later we still had no insurance and no explanation. It took them 4 days past the date we were promised temporary id cards for them to finally get us set up. the customer service was a joke. No one could tell me what the problem was - only that someone had dropped the ball. No kidding genius. Since they finally got us up and running I get nothing but complaints that UHC won't cover my employees' prescriptions. Everyone has been scrambling trying to get on substitute meds to meet their needs. Now they have denied a retro claim made due to their failures to get us coverage timely. My employee had no way of knowing UHC didn't cover the medication he had been on for over a year. he had never had a problem with BCBS TX covering it. Now they won't pay it even though it was their fault he had to pay out of pocket in the first place. And just like everyone else says, their customer service is crap. The phone number they gave me to call for help and that is on all of my employees' id cards doesn't even work. I can not express how they have humiliated me professionally. I have my whole company mad at me now. UHC I hope you burn to the ground. You don't give a damn about human beings - just your CEO's billion dollar bonus. Screw you. I can't wait to fire you.
Your employer decides what healthcare services to cover not Unitedhealthcare!
It is unfortunate that after decades of healthcare claims being paid by health insurance companies on behalf of employers that many employees still do not understand the basics of how their healthcare coverage works. It is youre employer that decides which benefits they will cover and the healthpaln administers those benefits per the contracted BENEFITS PLAN! So if you cant get your claims paid for injections or othotics or youre blephroplasty talk to your employer, they are the ones that contracted for the healthcare services they wish to pay for.
Very Poor Coverage
I was forced into a UHC plan by my employer. Most doctors hate UHC and will not accept new patients who have UHC. They have very poor customer service. There is little or no explanation for their arbitrary decisions. They make medical determinations over-ruling your own doctor even though they obviously have never examined you.
Prescriptions Not Always Covered
United health care denies claims and passes the blame. They refuse to refill my 10 year old child's medicine which they have paid in the past.
They have $50 copays and huge deductibles that don't pay anything.
Non-existent customer service
I have tried since last year to get the mailing address changed for my employer. We continually get notices that we are either behind on payments or have paid more than 1 month in advance. We try to send our payments at least 1 week prior the due date on the 1st, always including the payment coupon indicating which payment we are making. For some reason we are only having problems with the medicareRx plans.
Changed in mid year by employer, and they said they would honor deductibles and told his to get info from previous insurer and fax to them. Called ten times, faxed three times, and they never applied.
Poor Customer Service
Awful service. Lots of red tape. Had my claims continually denied for over a year because they insisted I had other coverage when I didn't. Mistakenly, canceled my Rx insurance for 2 weeks without warning. Even the providers don't like dealing with them.
