Good to Customers
I am a former employee of United American. I worked in the claims department and dealt with claims all day long. In truth, I was comfortable with my position in the company, primarily because my job was great. Very few, if any complaints ever came in about the claims process and customers usually only called with questions. Whenever I had to deal with customers calling about United American processing issues, they were frequently friendly and had no grips about the company's practices. I am here to tell you I have worked as a customer service rep for other companies and the job isn't always so pleasant. Yet, when working for United American, I was completely comfortable with the job and happy to deal with customers on a day to day basis. Instead of irate or angry people calling in, I got a chance to talk to satisfied customers on a repeat basis. If I didn't have to move, I would have never left the position.
If you're going to get insurance make sure you read the fine details of the policy, especially if you are working with United American. When I got my policy through United American, I have to say I was pretty impressed with the overall presentation provided. It's when I noted details that I grew concerned. Just when you think the policy covers something, it really doesn't or there are extreme limitations to what is covered. I had to spend some time in the hospital and was shocked to find out just how much of the bill was not going to be paid by United American. A week long hospital stay ranged $17,000.00 and after all of the exclusions and exceptions, my United American policy only covered 50 percent of that! I argued with the company and couldn't understand why certain things were excluded when they clearly should be covered. So much for the customer always being right, I was forced to make payment arrangements on the remaining hospital costs.
I wasn't really shopping for insurance, instead a United American agent approached me at work. They gave me a long speech about how fantastic United American is. I was skeptical because it seemed like he was overselling, but since I needed insurance I decided to forgo my skepticism and give it a shot. Of course, when I got home I did some comparison shopping just to make sure I hadn't made a bad investment decision. I found the reviews about United American generally positive so I stuck with my initial decision. Pleasantly enough, I found the company very dependable. I have saved a good deal of money on prescriptions and regular doctor visits through my United American policy. The company also gives you a great list of providers that accept the insurance and I was pleased to find that my regular doctor accepted United American. I am happy that I got good insurance and it was I blessing that I met that insurance rep!
I signed up with United American Insurance several years ago. Just three years ago I got a cancer diagnosis, so the medical bills racked up pretty fast. It's really rotten that as of right now I am $35,000 in debt with the hospital and nearly $70,000 in debt with the cancer specialist. The debt just keeps climbing. United American Insurance hasn't covered a single cent of the debt that has been piling up. Now, not only do I have to worry about my health but my financial stability has gone completely down the tubes. I am probably facing bankruptcy because I just don't see a light at the end of this dark tunnel.
I have never been happier with an insurance company. My claims get paid on time. I have a low co-pay and low premiums. I have a friend who has worked in medical claims collections for years. He had nothing bad to say about United American. He said they always pay their bills. I also like that they negotiate my portion of a medical bill down, not just their portion. Most insurance companies do not do this.
Rude and pushy!
When I went to actually use the benefits for prescriptions, it knocked off a whopping $1.50 from my $53.00 prescription.
Everything was covered
I just want to tell everyone that as long as I have been with United American as my supplement I have not paid one penny. I have had a knee replacement, a broken wrist and numerous doctor visits. I got my insurance directly with the company, not an agent. Maybe the people that are complaining should check on the agent.
I wanted to cancel my policy. I was told to fax proof that my check cleared my bank and they would immediately refund my deposit. I'm still waiting. It's been 7 weeks.
After paying a huge premium for nearly four years, I finally need the insurance policy to cover my newly diagnosed cancer. Even though I was told it would cover everything, they are going to pay $200 on a $9,000 visit. That was only one day! The rest of it will not be covered. The hospital even called me back, saying that It's not real insurance and I will not be able to use it!
No Pregnancy Coverage
The agent that sold me my policy told me that they would cover 80% of our hospital and surgical expenses. My wife is pregnant. We called to see how much they would cover, and they said ZERO! They won't cover even a PENNY of our C-Section. We've paid them over $7,000 in premiums over the past 1.5 years and they refuse to pay for our pregnancy. WE KNEW WE NEEDED MATERNITY COVERAGE! We even asked about it SEVERAL times.
