Don\'t Cover Important Things
So, I had a bill go into collections because the bills were being sent to the wrong address. SURE that a mistake had been made because I had gone to the doctor's office for my annual check up (and that was it). I come to find out that Unicare only covers checks ups at the doctors every THREE years for ages 19-39. I called my doctor'a office to cancel my upcoming appointment because I can't afford $250 for one office visit (I just graduated from college and am trying to save money for graduate school) and the receptionist at the office was completely shocked when I told her. She said she had never heard of a policy like this. I am going to change my insurance immediately.
Unicare denied 100% of the claims that I\'ve filed since Jan 10, 2008. Everything that I was told about the company turned out to be untrue.
Nothing is covered under the policy.
The company denied most of my claims for the medical costs associated with my diagnosis and treatment for cancer. They denied most of my surgery because I was treated in an outpatient facility, which I find ridiculous since such treatment is almost always less expensive and therefore should be used whenever possible. In addition, the company refused to pay for a biopsy because they stated that my "super saver" policy only covered $300 for all lab work. Their customer service was worthless. Not only did they give me the run-around when I called to find out why my claims were being denied, but they also failed to forward the hospital/lab costs onto me until a full year after treatment; and this resulted in my inability to include all of my 2007 medical costs onto a single year's tax return.
Poor Customer Service
Their website has been down 90% of the time in the last 3 months. Customer service leaves at 5 PM Central so I hope your boss is understanding about being on the phone for 75 minutes at work to get a problem not resolved.
They denied basic claims. They still tried to charge me for January and February even though they stopped servicing Texas as of Jan 1st.
I was Robbed
As of January 1st, Unicare was no long operating in the state of Texas. On January 6th they again debited my account for $529. I received a letter letting me know that they regretted the mistake, but I haven't seen a refund of any kind.
They have covered everything that I have had submitted to them and in a timely manner. The customer service has been fantastic!
Everyone that I have talked to tells me something different. If I didn't already know my coverage before I began trying to battle things out with them, I would have ended up paying at least $6,000 in bills that were covered by my plan.
Poor Customer Service
They deny most claims, ask you for more information, then they deny you again. Their customer service is bad. You get a different answer from each rep that you speak to.
I mailed my premium in time for it to get to Unicare. They apparently sat on my deposit. My insurance payment, according to them, was 4 days late. They canceled my husband's policy.
