I have tried dealing with travelers for property damage to my home, but have been saddled with unreturned phone calls by agent Vanner. She tries to stall payment, and I will have to suffer a loss repairing my home.
Raising Rates After Speeding Ticket
For more than two decades, I have had Traveler's insurance for both my home and car. Today I just got a new bill for the next year's payment. They raised my rate over $600/year! Their excuse? A speeding ticket which I got last year. I was only going 10 miles over the speed limit. I have made no claims and they have no real reason for raising my rates.
Cancellation Confirmation Number Means Nothing
They may have the lowest rates around however they make sure to get their profit. If you choose to make monthly payments, be prepared for a service charge that will be almost half of your payment. When I cancelled, I was given the run around. Each time I was told it was corrected, but the next month I got another bill. Finally I talked to someone who said they were sorry, but since they had no official record of the cancelled policy I would still have to pay the remaining amount plus all the service charges even though I had a confirmation number.
No Roof, No Settlement
A storm damaged the roof of my home. I filed a claim and was paid. During the roof repairs, while the roof was off, another storm hit and caused damage the inside of the house. The roofers' insurance was supposed to pay, but they wanted to investigate and recommended that I put in a claim with my homeowners insurance. Travelers did an inspection and issued a check. Several days later, they stopped payment on check since the original estimate was inaccurate. Eventually Travelers denied the claim because of the faulty repair. The decision to deny the claim was made one week before the denial letter was sent out. My house is sitting with wet walls!
Accepted Low-Ball verbal Quote Without My Consent
Our custom-built food concession trailer was damaged in a hail storm. After multiple called with a claims rep, Travelers received a verbal quote from an out-of-town trailer repair shop and approved it without my consent. My certified trailer shop's written estimate was $16,310. Travelers got a quote for $9,000. After seeing the actual damage to the trailer, the company that quoted Travelers $9,000 presented me with an actual written estimate exceeding that $21,000. After hearing this, Travelers began the backstroke that their initial verbal was what they would pay!
I love my agent, but have been disappointed with Travelers. Every year the cost goes up. We have excellent credit, perfect driver records. Except when on vacations, we put very little mileage on our cars. Our insurance went up $190 this year.
Wanted To More Than Double My Costs
I was a homeowners insurance customers for approximately one month. Shortly after I was confirmed as a policyholder, they sent an inspector out to estimate the square footage of my home (which I had no problems with, initially). Within a few days of the inspection, I received a letter from the Underwriting Team in Knoxville, TN stating that my current policy does not provide enough protection and if they did not hear from me within two weeks my dwelling coverage would increase by 64.4%! I contacted them and was advised that the increase was based on the inspection report finding of the 64.2% increase in square footage. I explained to them that my county appraiser had been to my home as required every three years and confirmed it was 3,100 square feet, which is what my property tax payment is based on. To no avail, the underwriter would not consider another inspection to confirm this mistake.
Poor Inspections Practices
My basement had mold in it. The insurance adjuster who came out said I didn't have mold, but there were mold all over my belongings. He inspected all around my doors, windows, and all around the baseboard and could NOT find any cracks, leaks or anything. The adjuster took many pictures. I received a letter 2.5 months later saying my claim was denied because there was a crack around the base of door. The adjuster clearly said that he could not find a crack any where.
Customer Service Is The Worst
I submitted a claim for frozen pipes / flood. It has been 18 months and I am still waiting for closure. Their claims adjusters are always 'out of the office' and never return messages until you start screaming in the phone or call their supervisor. It has been 60 days since all paperwork and photos submitted to close the claim and we are still waiting. All I get are excuses as to why they haven't processed the final papers. Any date they give me as a date for resolution comes and gos. They refused to renew our policy, but didn't notify myself or my broker. I only found out when my mortgage company notified me they were going to purchase a policy for me as I had no coverage.
