My premium when I first signed up was about the same as my property taxes, around $700/year. In the 20+ years that we've been customers, we have not had a lot of claims, but our premiums have gone up every year! Now they are $3,144/year. Our agent said that the high cost is because we live more than 5 miles from the fire department. It's 6.5 miles from the fire department. In our small down, that 1.5 miles would take an extra 2 minutes at most!
