won't Cover Because of Missing Gutters
I don't expect any resolution, but I would like for my experience to be recorded. In 2004, I purchased homeowners insurance from State Farm. In 2009, I went to another insurance company, but switched back to State Farm in 2010. I was told at that that time that the underwriters had determined that I needed to make some improvement, one of which was to put gutters on the house. The house never had gutters and I was told by several people that gutters were not needed because the house was on stilts. Nonetheless, I tried to get the work done, but was unable to find someone with a ladder tall enough to reach the back side. Finally, in June of 2011, a charity came to help. The charity put on a new roof, replaced the rotting fascia boards, painted the house and was going to put up gutters, but my insurance was cancelled anyway. In August, my house was destroyed by fire. Ironically, it burned quickly because of the fresh tar on the roof. I am concerned that they, the underwriters, were discriminating against me based on my race and my credit score and making it more difficult for me to keep my house insured. Everyone whom I have told about the cancellation has been appalled that gutters were the issue on a house that had no gutters the first time State Farm insured it.
I have had State Farm coverage for both my home and my auto for 40 years. I have never had a problem or complaint with any of their service. I have had one claim on my home, which they handled completely and efficiently, writing me a check on the day they inspected. I was recently in an auto accident where I was not at fault. I was the third car in a three car rear end accident. When I submitted the claim, State Farm was right there, offered to repair my car and give me a rental (I have that coverage), and pay any medical and get reimbursed from the other company. They have been absolutely wonderful in handling this claim. I certainly feel like they are a "good neighbor". My agent is ALWAYS there when I need him. I'm sorry for others with a bad experience. I just have not experienced that as of yet, hopefully never will.
They held me liable for an accident they wouldn't even investigate. I was making a left turn at a semi-blind intersection. I stopped at the stop sign, then proceeded to move to the edge of the road for some what of a view. I didn't see anything, and pulled out, only to have an elderly man flying down the road. He hit behind my gas cap and they said I hit him! The speed limit was 25. There is no way he was going that fast. When he hit me he threw my rear into the grass! Both of us have State Farm. I filed the claim. I tried to get a police report. I took pictures. He did nothing, and they said I had pulled out from the intersection and hit him! I would have had to back into him.
I am a real estate agent. I currently have a house listed on the market. The buyer's inspection report revealed hail damage on the 10 year old roof shingles. The State Farm Insurance adjuster who inspected the roof and stated that while there is indeed hail damage on the roof vents, gutters, and gutter guards the roof shingles cannot possibly be damaged by hail, but rather are defective shingles to begin with.
No Customer Service
I needed basic liability insurance on my car! State Farm was nice to me and affordable if I signed up for automatic payments. However, they kept changing my rate each month and when I called, no one could tell me why!!
Dropped Because Of Stepdaughter's Record
I have been a loyal State Farm policy holder since 1985 and my wife even longer. Prior to moving to Florida, we also had our homeowner's policies with them. Recently we added my stepdaughter to our insurance so that she could drive the truck in case of an emergency. She has been on the policy for less than six months and as not had any violations or accidents since being added to our policy but, State Farm is now sent us a letter of non-renewal stating that her driving history and history of claims is the reason. I talked to our local agent and they in turn talked to underwriting which said that if she is in the house then we can't drop her so they are dropping us.
Refuse To Pay Medical Bills
A driver ran a red light and did over $5,000 worth of damage to my car. State Farm dragged their feet about paying/reimbursing for medical bills from day 1. Now they are outright refusing to pay.
Dropped Because Son Has Too Many Tickets
I have been a customer since 1977 and my husband and I have great driving records. State Farm has always paid and treated us well if an accident occurred. My daughter was dropped because of too many tickets 2 years ago. My son has too many tickets and not he, but me and my husband are being dropped.
My house was burglarized. I submitted a claim the same day and I have already accepted a settlement, less than 2 months from start to finish. The $ is in the bank and the service I received was really good. I was expecting to wait for months but they did a great job. Thank you State Farm! It was a good experience for me.
won't Honor Uninsured Motorist Policy
My son was a passenger in another persons vehicle. The wreck was so severe, it is a miracle he lived. Three surgeries, a long hospital stay, therapy, etc left us with way more owed than other party's insurance paid. State Farm should have paid their under-insured amount, but since my son was now walking again and lived, they wouldn't. They said they didn't feel he was owed any thing else. We still have medical bills, but they don't care. State Farm is NOT there when you need them. They will gladly take your monthly payment, but will not pay out when its time.
