Safeco History
The history of Safeco dates back to 1923, when Hawthorne K Dent made a radical approach to business. A group was organized to make a combination of the financial stability and responsibility of a stock company, with the preferred risk underwriting. He later violated the conventional wisdom by making the base of the company in Seattle, quite far from the recognized insurance centers of the metropolitan Northeast. It was during the year of 1957 that the company entered the business of life insurance, and in the following years, board of directors recorded a massive growth and development of the company. In the 1960 s there was a further diversification of business, and financial services and mutual fund was introduced. The company took a major step in the year 1997, when it acquired American States Financial Corporation. The presence of the company was felt more in the year 1998, when naming rights to Seattle Mariners ballpark will be purchased. Today the company is still making its growth and also increasing its popularity. At the present day, it is serving the insurance needs of the drivers, home owners and owners of small and mid sized business houses.

Little Coverage

My truck was damaged when I ran over an object in the road thought to have been an animal. It was charged as a collision and not comprehensive. My tire was damaged and needs to be replaced. The tire type had been discontinued and they want to replace it with an odd tread design and it does not match. They are not willing to pay for a whole set. So, if you see me going down the road with a limp, it is because Safeco is cheap. This was a small claim with a high deductible.

Expensive without an Explanation

They were trying to get my 89-year-old mother to pay $680 for six-month renewal of an insurance policy that only covered liability! She would have paid it too, if I hadn't stepped in and asked for details.

About a month ago, I was driving to work. A teenage driver ran into the back of my truck. I decided to go to a body shop and get an estimate. The result was of $1,800 dollars for the repairs . Then I went to another body shop on my own time and got another estimate from another body shop to speed the process. I then called Safeco and spoke to a man about the incident and gave him the amounts from the dealership and the other body shop that was $22 dollars more then the dealership. He told me to go to Service King, so I went . I was told that it would cost me about $800 dollars to repair my truck. I immediately got out the other papers and showed him the results. They were going to send me a check for $825 and if i wanted the damages fix the proper way, then I will have to pay the difference.

I had never had to use this homeowners insurance until after hurricane Ike hit. Disappointed with how little they provided.

I'm the owner of a body shop and have to deal with people who have no idea what they are doing. I have spent 1 week trying to contact agent and 4 days contacting her supervisor. Both are totally irresponsible.

Cancelled Without Cause

After nearly 30 years of having multiple policies, one of my rental properties was cancelled after a small fire. I had no at-fault auto claims in 30 years and an overall very low claims history. My agent agreed it was unreasonable, but was unable to convince Safeco.

Poor Coverage

After many years of never filing any claim other that a glass damage claim, my daughter had a minor collision which set off the air bags (approx $3,000). Safeco's position is that such a collision should not have caused the airbags to deploy, so there must have been a mechanical malfunction, which of course is NOT COVERED. They would pay for the broken windshield, but naturally my rates will increase by $500/year for 5 years.

Safeco is Fantastic

If you are looking for insurance than I highly recommend Safeco. If truth be told, Safeco is the only way you should go if you need insurance. Safeco has appropriately named their company - my family is truly safe financially because we have Safeco insurance. The insurance costs that Safeco offers are extraordinary and their staff is friendly and professional. Truthfully, I couldn't believe it when I realized that I am paying 30 percent less for my car insurance than I was with other companies. I have never met one of their workers that weren't friendly. If I have concerns I can call the company and I am not the least hesitant about doing so. Since I was so pleased with the company's car insurance, I decided to go for the other forms of insurance they offer. Now all of my insurance demands are handled thorough a single, reliable and professional company.

Terrible possible customer service! I was told to get an estimate on a 2 week old Mercedes at to cheapest possible place. Now Safeco will not pay because the repairs cost $585.00.
