There are many subsidiaries of Progressive that are known to be providing many kinds of personal automobile insurance, as well as property casualty insurance, and also about the other related services in the United States. There are three kinds of segments in which the operations are carried out, and are categorized as Personal Lines, Commercial Auto and Other Indemnity. Insurance Policies for the private passenger automobiles are written by the personal lines segment, while recreational vehicles through the independent agency channel or a direct channel. The commercial auto segment looks after the primary liability of the vehicles and also about the physical damage that can be caused to the vehicles that are usually owned by the small vehicles through the many independent agency channels. The other segment that is associated with indemnity is known to be providing a kind of professional liability insurance to the different communities’ banks, principally directors and also officers. There are many other insurance related services that are also provided by these people, thereby adjusting claims in around 25 states for the Commercial Auto Insurance Procedures.

Progressive History
Progressive, with a total base of 12 million customers, is the third largest Auto Insurance Company in the United States. Progressive was formed on March 10, 1937 by Joseph Lewis and Jack Green, with the purpose of providing the vehicle owners, adequate security and protection. Progressive was always popular among the customers, as they provided options that appealed a lot to them, with many easy payment options. In this type of insurance the customers were provided an easy option scheme, through which they can pay their premiums, in many affordable installments. The main aim of the company in providing this kind of installments is to make it easy for the average people to protect one of their most precious investments, their vehicles. Progressive witnessed a steady growth in the next few decades, and was a witness to many new changes in the company. There were new offices of the company in downtown Cleveland, Ohio . The year 1955 saw the death of Joe Lewis, and the company had a new CEO in Jack Green. It was in these years only that Peter Lewis, the son of Joe Lewis, brought new ideas for the overall development of the company, so that the company is in a position to withstand all its competitors. Progressive Casualty Company was formed in the year 1956, with the aim of writing auto insurance for the high risk drivers. Progressive was formed in the 1960s, as a part of the expansion of the company. The 1970s also witnessed many changes with Progressive Insurance becoming a public company. The headquarters of Progressive was also shifted to Mayfield Village , Ohio . In the next few years there was major growth observed in the company, and it soon surpassed $1 billion in the form of premiums. This was a major development in the history of the company and the company also had its stocks listed in New York Stock Exchange Progressive (NYSE.PGR). The fact that differentiates Progressive from the other Insurance companies is that, it never did business by the way other insurance companies did. It introduced a new standard for the different auto insurance products, and was able to introduce a new response claims service, that was available for rendering services and supports to all the customers, 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.

Progressive soon became the largest seller of auto insurance, in the year 1992, and a year later the company decided to shift its focus from the non standardized insurance. It started offering different kinds of its products to all the drivers, and soon the company surpassed $2 billions in terms of premiums. In the next few years cutting-edge auto insurance rate comparison shopping service was implemented. This was a very big relief for all the customers, as now they will no longer have to spend hours calling at different rates to know about the auto insurance rates. Once a customer makes a call at Progressive, he receives a quote and also comparison rates of at least three competitors. All queries of the customers are solved and once the customer is satisfied, he can buy the policy directly over the phone or even locally through an agent. In the same year of 1994, Progressive took a major step, by making a reduction in the human trauma that is caused by accidents. This was achieved, when Progressive introduced the Immediate Response Vehicle (IRV), which was a special kind of vehicle that was able to carry trained claims professionals, to the different areas, wherever the customer required them. It was in the year 2003, that the company launched a new level of claim service, and became the first insurance company in the industry, that took responsibility of managing all the vehicle repairs, and providing all the services to the customers, so that they can get their car fixed after a loss. Progressive is not only able to provide convenience but also helps in providing a peace of mind

There are many ways, in which you can contact the Progressive. The Company has its own website, progressive.com that was launched in the year 1995, and it is one of the few insurance companies that had its presence felt in the Web. Just a year after the launch of the website, the customers were able to download different kinds of comparison rates online, and with the beginning of the year 1997, there were many real time online sales taking place. The site of Progressive is quite popular and is visited by more than a million visitors every month. If you desire to buy Auto Insurance by just sitting at home, you just need to visit progressive.com. In case you are not comfortable with their site, you can also find the independent agents and brokers of the company. The main aim of the company has always been to look after the needs of the customers and to provide them with maximum satisfaction. Keeping this fact in mind, Progressive launched Personal Progressive, which is an online policy management system. The chief feature of this system is that the customer can change coverage’s as well as make payments in the policy, whenever they desire.

Progressive has always desired to keep a step ahead of competition, by offering the products you want and also when you want. This philosophy of Progressive has helped it to become the largest Auto Insurance Company of the country.

Terrible Experience and customer service

Awful company. If there is ever a claim you will be stressed. I have had a home insurance claim and a car insurance claim and I was treated as if I had done something to cause the damages to my property. If they concentrated half as much resources on customer satisfaction as they did those stupid commercials they might have a better reputation. Avoid this insurance at all costs.

HORRIBLE

Quite possibly the worst insurance company in this country. My car was destroyed by a hit and run driver who ended up making an insurance claim later. Took them 3 days after the claim was made to contact me, took them 4 days after the fact to tow my car. Gave me a rental car that was only good for 72 hours after the check was sent. I NEVER accepted the money they offered me (so the check never should have been sent) but they decided to send the check anyway and I had 72 hours after it was sent on Wednesday to find a car, get it checked out by my mechanic and buy the car. The next day was Thanksgiving, so in reality I had all day Friday and half the day of Saturday to get this done. Finally got a call back on Monday after leaving a message for Deshawn Scroggins telling them we need more time with the rental car and more money since it's nearly impossible to buy a car Thanksgiving week with a check we didn't have until Monday. Plus, the money they offered wasn't enough to buy a car similar to the one I had previously. They are making me pay the rest of the overdue days for the rental car because the request to extend the rental was denied. Didn't know that until today (Thursday) when he said he would get back to me by the end of the day (Monday) with the answer of the request. Horrible customer service. It's nearly impossible to get a hold of this guy or anyone in his office. Takes them days to get back to you.
Also, explain to me how I need to pay money out of MY pocket when it was their irresponsible, CRIMINAL client who hit my car. Without that event happening I would have never had to pay any extra money that I don't have and the car that was destroyed would have lasted me years to come. Progressive refuses to help me out anymore even though I am not asking for a large amount of money. AWFUL company. Will never use them as my insurance company in the future. I will be writing to their CEO and getting a lawyer.
Advice to anyone else, don't let their advertisements lie to you. And I hope none of you have the misfortune of having to deal with this company in the future.?

We had a 2006 toyota corrola. During a very bad storm, a huge tree branch fell directly on top of our car. Progressive had a rep out the next day, and declared the vehicle totaled. We recieved a rental car for 10 days while the claim was processed. Progressive paid 10% over blue book value of "good condition". We were very happy with our service.

Agent Accused Me of Being At Fault

Jul 15, 2014 by Anonymous

I had Progressive for about 10 years - no accidents, no tickets and I always paid my bill in full and on time. I was an ideal customer. For the first couple of years, my premium went up by $100-200 every 6 months for no reason (blame it on the economy I guess). Last year, someone hit my vehicle in a parking lot - it was 100% their fault and they admitted it. I got their insurance info and thought I'd do the right thing and contact Progressive and explain the situation in case the insurance co of the guilty party tried to blame me for the accident.
The customer service rep at Progressive was extremely rude and condescending, he tried to get me to admit fault! After 10 minutes of being hassled and treated like I was total scum, he then told me it was my responsibility to contact the other insurance company. Having never been in an accident before, I wasn't aware of the proper procedure and instead of being helpful, the Progressive rep was downright mean to me. And to top it off, Progressive put an accident claim on my record even though it wasn't my fault and they didn't pay out a dime! 10 years of loyalty and this is how they treat customers...pathetic.

I was backed into by a Progressive insured driver. The claims process is a joke. It has been 4 months and they still have not paid the claim! (It\'s less than a $1000). The adjuster never looked at the car, just said he needed an estimate for repairs. He said it looked good and told us to drop it off. Now Progressive says it won\'t pay the claim because the adjuster never took a look at it or took pictures... Horrible horrible horrible.

They\'ve Covered Me...

I've had them for quite a while now and never ran into any issues. As far as the cost, I've noticed a couple of times that it's cheaper to renew your policy as a new member than to renew your current policy. They may have changed this recently, though. Either way, they're the cheapest insurance I've found to date. I've also filed a couple of claims with them through the years due to neurotic drivers in my area, and both times they took care of everything without any hiccups. I started with them because they were the only company that would insure me after some rough driving history, but after not having any instances in the last few years my rate is only going lower, and my "membership level" is going higher, so I get more perks.

Poor Judgment on Claims

I decided I was going to switch my insurance this month, got some cheaper quotes than I had with my current company. After I purchased my new insurance my rate changed due to a "No-fault auto accident" In 2011 when I was never in an accident ever in my life, after calling progressive to find out what the claim was about, I found out it was regarding the inquiry I made when I ran over a nail in the road wit no damage to no other vehicles, property, only my tire!!!! since my deductible was more than the cost of new tires.. decided to pay for them myself.. So now 3 years later im learning about this claim, and was never informed of it or that inquiring would result in me being penalized. I only inquired that did not resolve in a claim and still fighting it to be taken off. A nail in the road does not make me an unsafe driver!

Horrible Repair Service at Recommended Service Center

On 8/17/13 I was hit by a lady who had Progressive Insurance, both she & Progressive were quick to accept liability as the accident was obviously due to her negligence. The local claims adjustor was prompt, courteous & quickly arranged for my vehicle to be picked up for service, as well as a rental car. He stated they were directly with a local shop who could be immediate repairs & that all work was fully warrantied. I took several pictures & was very clear about all of the damage (I have several emails showing this). I was never asked where I wanted to take my vehicle, & assumed that Progressive would chose a trustworthy shop, since it was their name, & checkbook, on the line. My vehicle was in the shop 8 days before finally being brought back to their local service center & passing a “quality inspection”. I picked my car up on 9/3/13 at 5pm. I immediately had complaints, the car still pulled to the left & had a “bumpy” ride. This car was a BRAND NEW 2013 Chevy Sonic which looked & drove perfectly prior to the accident. Additionally, there were parts left in the backseat of my car, parts covered in oil & frankly smelly, as well as ZERO gas in my car. I understand gas will be used due to test drives that need to be performed, however my car literally sputtered on the .25 mile drive to the nearest gas station. Overall, I was totally unimpressed but still willing to work with Progressive. The next day my car was picked up & taken back to the shop. After work my friend drove me to the local enterprise where a rental “was all setup” & waiting for me, or so I was told. Unfortunately, yet again Progressive disappoints. I waited 45 minutes while the associate repeatedly called the Progressive employee in charge or my repair, & the local service center, for authorization to give me a rental. Finally, we called the shop & the manager there was able to assist us since Progressive was clearly unable to even answer their phone. The next day I find out that my vehicle still had a CV boot that was leaking oil & needed the axil replaced. These are obviously major parts, that had I continued driving with them damaged, would have led to further issues in the future. Finally, 6 days later, on 9/9/13, my car was again returned to me, still pulling to the left & with even more parts left banging around in the back! After 1 short day of driving my car to work & back home it appears that Progressive has yet again dropped the ball. The service shop they have chosen to repair my car has, again, stated that the vehicle is fully repaired when it is not. At this point in time my car continues to pull to the left, now has a LOUD CLANG when making sharp left turns, at low speed, & is leaking fluid. After discussing the entire repair process with a service associate, who is not at all affiliated with Progressive, he has advised that I should immediately take my car to a qualified repair center, such as my dealership. I now appear to have a damaged tie rod, & only continue to do further damage to my car by driving it. I am awaiting a call/email back at this point in time, however I expect to have further problems & push back from Progressive, since I REFUSE to use their repair shops at this point in time.

Still Waiting For Refund

Jul 19, 2013 by Anonymous

Cancelled my insurance due to a lower rate and better coverage with another company. They still took my money out of my account and told me I have my refund within 7-10 days back in my bank account. I called to check on my status and told it would be in my account today. No refund, called again... They said a check would be cut today, but it would take another 3-5 days to arrive. UNACEPTABLE!

24-Hour Phone Lines Makes a Big Difference

I was with Farmers who was very reasonable for excellent coverage. However they don\'t have a 24-hour customer service line so when they make a mistake if its a weekend than it can\'t be handled until Monday. I switched to Progressive got the exact same coverage for pretty much the same price. The 24-hour customer service is the main reason I switched I like to be able to call when ever and have an issue solved quickly. I was in an accident not at fault and they quickly got me a rental, repaired my car and didn\'t go up on my renewal. I used snapshot and got an 11% discount I drive a lot of miles and had a lot of hard brakes so that was excellent for me. Overall I am happy with progressive and after shopping around they are still the lowest out of other carriers 🙂
