I have disability with MetLife. I had a nervous breakdown and was stuck in my home for three months and only then started to recuperate. All the while, Metlife had me running from doctor to doctor getting forms filled out, and wanted me to hand deliver them to my doctors so they could process my claim quickly. The forms were repetitious and lengthy, but mission accomplished and MetLife finally acknowledged their receipt, but then said it wasn't enough information, and another month said never received them, and then it was obvious that the very same forms had to be filled out each month. I had major difficulty making their paperwork my priority when I needed to start my recuperation and get back to work. Now, Metlife comes out of the blue saying my insurance is ending. Period.

I made a request for a boat insurance quote with MetLife nearly one week ago. I have repeated the request once during that week. I carry all the modern communication gadgets, so I'm easy to contact, yet I haven't heard a thing. It makes one wonder what would happen if I filed a claim for my automobiles.

Poor Customer Service

My husband had a heart attack and shortly thereafter we had about $20,000 worth of damage done by upstairs toilet overflow. Metlife sent their insurance adjuster and wanted my husband to crawl underneath the house. It's not my husband's job. It is their job. After we told him as much, he crawled underneath the house, pulled out some insulation and thankfully A LOT OF WATER POURED ALL OVER HIM. They made us feel as though we were wrong for filing a claim.

Poor Replacement Parts And Repairs

They began nice after I hit a deer on my way home one night from a friends house. Long story, short... My car was about 1 1/2 years old with 20,000 miles on it. They guaranteed that if I used the auto body shop they recommended, they would restore the car back to pre-accident condition. FAR from it!!! I had to fight to get them to replace the bottom side molding that they left on the car scratched and refused to repaint some scratches that the deer made on the back part of the car. Then today I just noticed that they replaced the front bumper with an inferior bumper. Not the bumper that came with the car that I paid extra for as an option. I am disgusted with this company and do not plan to renew with them.

Slow Claims Process

Two weeks ago, my boyfriend and I were involved in a car accident. MetLife is supposed to cover the damage since we were not at fault. It took 3 days for the adjuster to find the time to look at the car. During that time we made 10 phone calls to him, all were unanswered. The adjuster told us that he would send us a report assessing the damage. We waited a week for the report and only received one call during that time. The MetLife adjuster was supposed to make arrangement to have the repairs made, but when we contacted the repair shop, we found out that they had never heard about us or our car. When we then called the adjuster to see where the misunderstanding was, he (of course) didn't answer. This is not an example of good customer service!

I had a claim on a home and auto policy at different times. Both times I was paid quickly, explained the process, and overall happy with the service. Calling the 800# though is TERRIBLE. Used to not be that way, but its like it is outsourced now. Price is a little steep, but coverage seems good.

Customer Service Is A Waste Of Time

If you really fall for their cheap rates: expect to be unable to contact anyone useful to help you. Expect to speak to people who aren't informed on what they're doing and will talk to you with disrespect if you ask too many questions. Anticipate that your requests to received information on your account through the mail will not be honored. Expect to waste a lot of time trying to get basic questions answered.
