I have been dealing with an ongoing medical issue. They have found ways to deny my claim even though my personal physician feels it necessary for me not to work. Metlife has said that I don\'t have adequate reason not to work. I never thought I\'d see the day an insurance company can override my physician. I\'ve had to appeal the decision for over 4 months now with no income.
Delays In Making Life Insurance Claim
I called MetLife to file a life insurance claim. After making 3 calls and still being unable to get a claim form, I demanded that one either be emailed or snail mailed to me. I finally to email me one. After they received the completed claim form, they told me that it takes up to 10 business days to process a claim for under $10,000.
No Movement On Claim
We had a garage fire that spread to the roof of the garage and then moved into our living room and dining room. It destroyed all of the items in the garage. The adjuster drove out to survey the damage. Since that visit, there has been no re-construction done to the house. They have paid a little for some of the personnel loss items, but the claim still has not moved forward on the re-build of the house. It has now been more than 8 months. Our living expense allowance is just about to completely run out. It seems like they would rather pay for us to stay in a rental home instead of repairing my home.
Promise Of Decreased Payments Not Met
I've been insured by Met Life for over 30 years. When I first purchased the policy I was led to believe that it was a 20 payment life policy. I didn't learn until much later that the policy is a full life policy. I was sold on this policy because so many promises were made... I should have realized that it was too good to be true. When I originally bought the policy the monthly premiums were $46 and now I'm a senior citizen on a fixed income and the premiums have grown to $162/month. The salesman told me when I purchased the insurance that unlike other policies, as I grow older the premiums would decease each month instead of increasing like other insurance companies.
Major Claims Denied
I have been sick (on-going) for the past couple of years and have submitted 2 claims that has been a hassle the entire time with the company. My first claim was due to surgery and I had to submit all this paperwork while almost dying, which caused several issues with my paycheck. The second claim was the same thing: I was in a bad situation health-wise and no matter what my claim gets denied. I am not faking an illness and found out I have 2 masses on my kidneys, so I do not need this nonsense with a company that knows my medical history denying my claims. I have worked too hard to get to where I am for the denial to cause me to lose my job.
They have great rates. My agent takes good care of me and I have not had any issues.
Worst Customer Service
Seemed like a good deal. It's on the cheap side, but not worth it. Customer service is HORRIBLE. Simple thing like change of address, took 5 phone calls and 4 hours of my time. They took off my driver safety discount for no reason. Took another hour to get them to put it back on then they tried to only give me HALF of the discount than I had the previous 6 months. I have no accidents or points against me.
Denied For Not Going To The Doctor Enough
I had a heart attack in January. I got some short term disability checks, but it was always a hassle getting what you are owed. I then had another heart episode in July. I have not been back to work since. In September they stopped my short term disability and then said that my claim has been denied due to the lack of information from my doctor's office. I then started the long term disability process and was promptly denied on that before it was even started. I even paid for the long term disability myself through my work? My doctor has had me out this whole time. It was not my choice. Met Life does not like the fact he didn't see me for 3 months. He wanted to see how things healed up.
We have MetLife for disability at the company I work for. MetLife looks for reasons to deny claims. Customer service is terrible. They have the doctors filling out forms over and over claiming they did not receive the forms. When you call, they switch you from one customer rep to another. They deny claims even when people have valid reasons for being out of work.
They raise the rates every six months. Over the course of two years, my rates went up more than 50%.
