I was a beneficiary on a life insurance policy and sent them a copy of the letter. They gave me a bogus address the first time and the second time I called they gave me some other address. They also told me that they have no record of the policy the first time and the second time they told me it had been cashed out. When I asked who cashed it out, they said they can not give out that information!
Low and Slow
MetLife will do anything to not have to pay on a claim. The service agent we bought the policy from could care less. The insurance adjuster handling our paperwork still won't tell us if they will pay for the claim or not. We fixed the leak ourselves since that wasn't covered. The contractor won't work on the estimate and negotiate with the insurance to repair and/or replace the items until we sign a contract. The insurance adjuster keeps cutting the estimate.
Glad I Metlife
I am glad I have Metlife. They have saved me a lot of money on my car and home insurance. The customer service is great too.

I went ahead and compared quotes before getting a life insurance policy. I used all the resources I had available to me to make certain that I was getting accurate quotes. 1.5 Years, Still No Payment
We have been waiting 1.5 years for payment on my father's policy. We have gotten nothing, but the run around. Multiple mailings have each requested the same forms and certificates over and over again. Each time we start another 30 period for review and 120 day to payout and each time we get another generic non informative letter.
Our claim was denied after 6 weeks of waiting. They spent more on the engineers and plumbers whom they sent from 350 miles away than it would have cost them to settle our claim.
Cheap, Not In A Good Way
Met Life has no problems accepting payments or raising payment amounts, but try getting a claim paid and be prepared to fight for it and then don't be surprised if even then you get next to nothing. If you don't try to escalate you will get absolutely nothing from them. I finally got them to agree to a partial roof replacement, but even then they came in at $1,000 lower the lowest estimate I sent to them.
No coverage after a flood
I thought MetLife was so great because they saved me so much on my auto insurance. That is until I had a loss and found out they suck. I lost almost everything in a freak flood and my truck was about all that was salvaged. It took MetLife 5 days to come out. I didn't have car rental on my policy because I had 3 vehicles. Well the other 2 were destroyed and so I was with no car. By the time they got out to look at the truck it had been 100 degrees everyday and it was mostly dry. The adjuster was not going to replace the seats because they were "dry." They did the BARE minimum for me.
