I filed a claim at the end of June. My rep went on vacation the following week, so I was in limbo waiting for him to get back. Then when he did get back he took days and sometimes weeks to return a phone call. So I had to start emailing as well as calling. Zero customer service. Now, three months later, my claim still has not been decided on. I did receive a letter from the hospital saying that I owe them $17,000 after being told the procedure for me getting surgery as a result from the accident was approved. So I'm still making payments on a totaled car, and now I owe the hospital, and I'm sure the doctor and physical therapists already have their bills in the mail.
Waiting on a settlement
The vehicle that was insured by Mercury Insurance was driven by a person convicted on numerous DUI arrests. The driver was at twice the legal limit at the time of the accident and had no driver's license due to suspension. He rear ended the vehicle my son was riding in. He needed six months of physical therapy (3 time a week) whcih cost $8,000. Mercury offered $11,000 for a settlement.
I'm reading all these reviews and am very annoyed at some of the complaints. Granted some of them are valid and I would be upset as well, but people need to know what coverages they are paying for when they purchase their policy. Its not the company's fault or the adjusters fault if you did not purchase the coverage then when an accident happens, you immediately want to be paid.
Poor Claims Practices
When it comes to a claim, they give you the run around. My vehicle was broken into and everything was stolen. They would not cover anything. They wouldn't replace broken windows. I had to pay everything out of my own pocket.
Mercury Worst Insurance Company Ever
My truck was parked legally on the street when a drunk driver with Mercury insurance ran into it... twice. They tried to give me 20% of what my car was worth and 1/3 of what it would cost to fix. They lied to me and they submitted fraudulent claims to the DMV and tried to force me to accept a very unfair settlement.
i let my policy lapse
I am at fault here. I understand this. I guess I just expected more from a company I've been with for 10 years. I awoke with the police at my door around 6:00 am. They stated that they found my car a few blocks away and they believe it was stolen and then crashed. This was the first I had heard about it. I walked outside and sure enough, my car was gone. There was about $4,000 of damage. I called the insurance company and informed them of what had happened. They filed the initial claim and said someone would call me back. While waiting for Mercury to call me, I called my actual local agent to let them know. They then informed my that my insurance had expired. I have always paid my insurance through my agent through email. When the bill is due, I get an email, and then I pay the bill. This time, I didn't receive an email. I did get the letters in the mail, but as I normally do, I wait for the email. I immediately paid the bill Monday morning. The call from the Mercury claim department came and I gave them the information, did the phone interview and they dispatched the adjuster. I was told I would be called in day and was not. I ended up calling the claims agent and talking to her. They stated that my insurance lapsed and they were going to review to see if they would cover it. I was told I would hear back within a day, at this time I had to do a second interview. The next day came and went with nothing. The following day I called the claim agent and left a message. Finally at the end of the day I heard back and they said they were still reviewing, but tomorrow I would hear. I hear back and my claim was denied. For 10 days my car sat in the shop waiting to be fixed and now I found out that I had to pay myself.
My car was not repaired correctly by the auto mechanic that it was taken to. Mercury paid all the invoices and the car is a wreck, inoperable. Mercury will not come up with the money to repair the car back to its original state. They said I have to handle the balance of the cost to have my car derivable. Mercury paid invoices without checking their work.
I was rear-ended at a stop light. Luckily no one was injured. I paid a hefty deductible up front to get my car repaired. Mercury assigned a claims adjuster to me who was TOTALLY incompetent. He answered simple yes/no questions with procedural gobbledygook, trying to sound smart, but so obviously not understanding what the heck was going on with my claim. I had to call the liable party's claims adjuster to figure out what was going on with my claim. My adjuster did NOTHING. When I complained to his supervisor and his supervisor's supervisor that my adjuster was not staying on top of my claim, lacked communication skills, and was not showing any sense of urgency to recover my deductible from the other party quickly, they BOTH said he was doing everything he could. He couldn't give me straight dates on things like when the letter to the DMV was sent, how insurance follows the car in CA (and not the driver), etc. I got all the information from the OTHER insurance company.
Both the website and the telephone system are complicated to use when trying to make a payment.
No Customer Service
It's been almost two months since my accident and Mercury Insurance still hasn't paid off the balance. I received letters stating that my claim adjuster would contact me on a daily basis to let me know how the claim was going, but never has she called. I have called on a daily basis and never get a return phone call. It took them 3 weeks to to find that my car was a total loss, but just looking at it you could tell. I had to purchase a new vehicle, and I am still dealing with this claim and two car payments which isn't easy.
