The adjusters are VERY rude and they never bother to call you back, even after leaving multiple messages with multiple people. I guess they think that they can ignore people with claims and just hope they go away and don't have to pay for something that the idiot they insure ruined. Great Claims Handling
I am not insured by Mercury, but the other driver who totaled my car was. I have liability only through my insurance and they've hardly contacted me or returned my phone calls since the accident occurred 3 weeks ago. Mercury called me within a day. I gave a statement, then they advised me on what I should do while they investigated the accident to decide who was at fault. They took care of me better than my own insurance and were VERY polite and helpful throughout the entire process. They made it an extremely quick and painless experience. I imagined that they'd probably try and fight me and try to pay me bare minimum of what my car is worth. I bought my car used two years ago for $6,500, and they're paying me $7,000 for my vehicle and an additional $600 to salvage and dump it. They're also paying all of my towing and storage fees, and paid for me to use an intermediate rental car throughout the process. I thought that this accident was going to ruin me and put me in debt! I am so happy with how wonderful and polite all of the people I have spoken with at Mercury have been that I am going to switch to their insurance.
I was hit by one of there insured. I was stopped at a red light and was hit in the rear. It was so minor that I didn't call the cops. We just exchanged info. Now this insurance company will not accept fault because they can't get a hold of their insured. I gave them two number to reach him at plus his work number.

Mercury refused to pay a claim when it was discovered that the policy holder owned a dog that a company representative determined was a "pit bull". The dog was a mixed breed. In my three years of working with this dog, he had never displayed any signs of aggression. My client's 10 year old daughter was walking the dog when his strength overpowered her leash hold. The dog paid an unwelcome visit to a neighbor's dog, a scruff broke out, and the neighbor was bitten in the hand as he separated the dogs. The dogs were not injured, but the neighbor got nasty. He filed a lawsuit claiming he would be out of work for 6 months and wanted to be compensated. In the end, Mercury paid the claim and then threatened to cancel the policy unless my client provided them with Tanner's death certificate. I stood there numb with disbelief while my panicked client was distraught over the prospect of losing her homeowner's insurance, complaining she could not afford to buy insurance from eight other companies that had quoted her higher rates, since this claim put a "black mark" on her record. I refused her request to euthanize the dog and told her I would find a rescue group to foster him for adoption. She was open to the idea. Two days later she had the dog killed.
Mercury Insurance has given me pretty good service. I have encountered several reviews that have actually left me flabbergasted - I can't say that I have ever had a bad experience when talking to the Mercury Insurance people. I like the company's pricing and consider the company's rates far more reasonable than most. Billing is handled with excellent care, and I have never heard any of my friends who also rely on Mercury complain about anything whatsoever. Insurance has friendly and intelligent people: they really know what they are talking about when I call. I have never actually dealt with the claims handlers, but I feel confident in assuming that the reps are just. Of course, I am basing my assumptions on my prior experience with the company: until the company proves otherwise, I will stand by the assumption that Mercury Insurance and the people that work for them are a decent bunch.
I was told that this was a no-charge service upwards of $4800. Then 2 days before it was finished I received a letter telling me to mitigate my costs since Mercury would not be responsible for any of the costs.
Poor Claims Process Practices
A stupid teenage kid rear ended me and cost me $4,000 of damage. Mercury, the kid's insurance, is not taking the fault for it! They are absolutely horrible and shady, It's been nearly 5 months since my accident and they are still sorting it out. The guy handling the kid's claim is extremely rude and inappropriate.
Hard time canceling
They took my money and then raised the rates. Now I am having a hard time getting it back.
