Surgery Not Covered
My mother-in-law is insured by Kaleida Health. Recently, she found out that she had cataracts in both of her eyes and would be very rapidly losing her sight as a result. The 30-day waiting period for the approval for the surgery that she needed, turned out to be a 60-day waiting period. She went ahead scheduled her first cataract surgery for not long after the end of the waiting period. The surgery was a success, but she is now completely blind in one eye. Today we found out that the procedure that Kaleida approved will not ve covered after all because they claimed that the cataracts were a result of a pre-existing condition and they do not cover pre-existing conditions. Now my mother-in-law is responsible for this outrageous medical bill!
