Hanover insurance will work to deny your claim! They do their best to find issues and don't cover things because of different loopholes.
I was with them for a year and a half, no problems. When I decided to switch to another company, Hanover decided to charge me for another month of insurance. I have faxed letters to them and to the collection agency which they now have after me and they have consequently lowered the amount they're trying to milk out of me to $27. I was told that once I sent them the right paperwork, they would stop trying to pursue this imaginary debt.
Wouldn't Pay For My Tires
This company is quick to take your money each month, but when it comes to making a claim they try to intimidate you and bully you around. Their agents are beyond rude on the phone and never return your calls! Worst experience of my life! They will tell you your car is worth next to nothing and try to get out of you making a claim. It's been one month and I have gotten no where! My vehicle's tires/rims were stolen and the interior was destroyed when someone tried to steal it. I ended up having to buy tires with my own money to get around and still am stuck with a broke truck!
Not Paying in Full
A Hanover customer ran a stop sign and hit my car. They were charged and clearlyat fault, but Hanover tried to say we were both at fault and would only pay 85% of damages!

My was hit and my car was totaled. Hanover refused to pay for the damage because I wasn't the driver. Just because its my car doesn't mean that no one else can drive it. Any one can drive your car and be covered as long as they don't live in the same house hold as you.
payments after cancellation
I recently canceled my insurance policy with Hanover because the car I had covered was a lease and I was turning it back in. I wasn't purchasing another car at the time, so I had no need for insurance. I called to cancel my policy at the appropriate time. I filled out the form I was sent to cancel coverage and returned it, yet Hanover proceeded to pull the next two payments from my bank account. I have been fighting the insurance company for a refund of the two payments (the amount they say I will be refunded changes each conversation) and am still waiting for a refund months later. I originally signed with Hanover as my insurance company because they offered the best deal, but I would have paid more monthly to prevent the confusion and frustration I have dealt with for the past two months.
I recently had a hail damage claim with Hanover Insurance. They denied the roof claim, but everyone in the neighborhood was approved for hail damage.
Difficult to Get a Hold Of
I was hit in a motor vehicle accident by a person who had Hanover they were terrible. My insurance company and I had to make all contact with them. They NEVER returned any of my phone calls! 3 weeks after being hit, they had my car looked at and totaled it. Then they gave me an unfair price. All they give me is the run around and send me to their managers' voice mails who again never returns my phone calls.
Poor Customer Service
I filed a claim earlier this month. Not only was the customer service rude and demeaning, the company also tried to fix my car cheaper than necessary hoping to only make it look okay, rather than doing it the right way. Our appraisal was for $1,700, but they tried to only give us $1,100.
Their insured hit my car while making an illegal u-turn from the right hand lane. He cut right in front of me. He was given tickets for reckless driving and for making an illegal u-turn, AND HANOVER ONLY ISSUED HIM 85% of the blame! Their attitude was "take it or leave it". And I've never spoke with a ruder insurance rep in my life. She talked over me like I had hit the mute button.
