Offered 50% of The Value of My Claim
I insured my business with Hanover as their rates were roughly 15% - 20% below my other offers, but when I recently suffered a loss I found out why. After my meeting with the adjuster and his subsequent investigation, I was offered 50% of the value of my claim and told I would have my money in a week. The adjuster said that I did not void any conditions of my policy, but if I didn't accept the offer, my option was to sue the company, where he said I would most likely win, but would not see my money for at least 2 years.
For many years I was asked to low-ball claimants on liability decisions with no legal basis to make such decisions. The management, especially upper management, closely monitors these metrics, and disciplines to the point of firing adjusters who do not offer say 80% instead of paying 100% when the insured is clearly 100% at fault. The company receives a high amount of complaints from insurance departments for various problems related to claims handling.
Constantly Raised My Rates
Every year that I have been with Hanover, they have raised my rates. Granted they were cheaper than some other companies, but there was no reason for them to continue to raise my rates. I have had no accidents and no ticket in 10 years.
Virtually every home in my neighborhood (including those on all sides of mine) had its roof entirely replaced due to a hail storm in April 2010, but Citizens/Hanover can't find evidence of damage on my roof and has denied my claim. My advice - avoid this company at all costs; their coverage may be a little cheaper than some others, but you'll be wasting what you do spend because when you need them they won't be there.
Horrible Claim Service
We had 2 separate claims regarding damage to our roof and had NO luck getting it covered. When I called to speak to someone, they put me through to the adjuster. After 2, MAYBE 4 minutes, he told me he "didn't have time for me" and that he had other customers to deal with. I told him he shouldn't even bother because they don't pay claims anyway!
Hanover Insurance is dedicated to delivering quality service - and yes, I know that sounds like a commercial but It's a fact. Hanover Insurance made it easy for me to get a policy and get the right amount of coverage at prices that were quite affordable for me. The Hanover Insurance website was really easy to navigate and the agents are knowledgeable - they aren't just a bunch of fluff and they know what they are talking about. I don't get agents that leave me hanging on the line to answer my questions or to make changes to my policy: the answers are right at their fingertips and I believe that's exactly how it should be. I have a pretty busy schedule and it changes from day to day. It's great to rely on a company like Hanover Insurance because they conform to my immediate needs. It takes a few minutes to deliver what it takes some other companies hours to deliver.
Poor Claims Process Practices
The driver who hit out cars was insured by Hanover. Our cars were parked in the driveway and he hit both cars! They did take responsibility and paid the bill. I had to constantly call and monitor every aspect as they did absolutely nothing. They kept screwing up the rental car, telling us to return it when the car was in the shop being repaired. They don't care about repairing the car to our satisfaction. We got a poor paint job. I spent like 15 hours of my own time on this mess and It's less than satisfactory.
My car was recently hit by a vehicle whose driver was insured by Hanover. Hanover's adjuster refused to resolve the claim in a timely manner. Hanover sought to delay settlement by getting statements from witnesses who later revealed that they did not see the accident.
This company is trying to totally low ball an offer to settle on my car which they totaled. Their own adjuster stated a fair price when he examined the vehicle and then their claims specialist suggested an offer several thousands of dollars less... even when confronted with evidence their offer is horribly low.
They are very good
I had an accident with a Hanover insured customer. My car was totaled and it was the fault of the other party. I contacted Hanover after I received the police report. The rep was very nice to me. They sent a representative promptly to my place to get an estimate of the car. Once it was declared totaled, they paid me a fair price for my car.
