Please Sean Anderson 320 424 3243 1.8 overall rating by imanalien Best advice: Buyer Beware I bought a Geico policy for my 2007 Nissan Frontier that also included the canopy as a separate item. I paid an extra $100 a year to insure the canopy for the $1500 it cost me. Last December I encountered black ice west of Spokane, WA, and the truck rolled and was a total loss. After I filed the claim I was told the canopy was only covered for $171. It was explained to me that it was simply part of the truck and would not be treated as separate. When I asked exactly what I bought for $100/yr they explained that if just the canopy had been damaged it would then have been covered for the full $1500, but not if the claim included the truck. In other words, Geico’s coverage would mostly be for damage sustained while the canopy was detached from the truck, such as a tornado or falling tree. My canopy was always on the truck, which is the reason I bought the extra insurance, and the saleslady knew this and didn’t mention any restrictions. I can’t think of too many viable scenarios where the canopy is totaled without the truck sustaining damage. Essentially they sold me $171 worth of coverage for $100/yr. After getting nowhere with the adjuster and his boss, I called the regional manager. In the end he offered $1000. I took the offer and accepted the $500 loss since I didn’t think it would get any better. I have waited almost six months before posting this review because until Sep 4 I still had a policy with Geico and I was leery of canceling since I was afraid that they would find some reason to cheat me on the refund if I canceled. The accident occurred Dec 20, 2013 and I bought another truck Jan 18, 2014. Geico then refused to refund the premiums for the four weeks I had nothing to insure. As the nice lady explained, in order to process my claim I had to keep my account open and in order to do that the coverage had to be continuous and in order for that to happen the money had to stay, and no, it is not possible to add the four weeks on to the policy for the new truck. Bottom line: they are keeping the money and I get nothing for it except an extremely transparent excuse. Ignore the cute commercials and the pleasant voices on the phone. Geico is a hard-nosed, greedy company that stretches ethical and legal boundaries when it comes to selling policies and honoring their side of an agreement. I was cheated out of $500 for the canopy and approximately $100 for the premiums that covered nothing. If I haven’t dissuaded you, and you do decide to go with Geico, and you have anything special to be covered, be sure to get it in writing. Once again, be sure to get it in writing. You’ve been warned. BTW I have cross-posted this review on other insurance related sites. Don't be surprised if you see it again. 1.3 overall rating by Dianne Powers Took Complete Advantage of My Son My 23 year old son, finally saved enough money to purchase a car from a large Toyota Dealership. He bought a Prius and added Geico Insurance that day. This was a financed car. He was approved for insurance, paid a high down payment and hen another payment. Sadly right after that he had an accident. They paid for the car he hit however refuse to pay for his car because they say he never got in inspected by them. I could see that if it was bought by an individual, however to have been purchased by a Toyota Dealership....Geico knows that car was not totaled. That was January and my son still has to pay the payments on the car! Geico has taken a hard line and due to my sons age, I feel that they are bullying him. 0.8 overall rating by Steve Geico 10% at Fault = Lie I had a lady floor her car out of a parking spot and smash into the back of my Jeep on the passenger side. She was about 60 years old, she never took the sun visor out of the front or rear windows, and had an IV sticking out of her left arm and said she had just gotten out of the hospital and was heavily medicated. She had Geico for her insurance. They tried to tell me that both sides are at fault in every accident and that I needed to pay 10% of the repair to my Jeep. I told them no, I have Erie Insurance, have not had an accident in over 25 years and I will let them deal with you. I filed the claim with Erie, Erie took them to court to get reimbursed and the judge made Geico pay 100% of the claim. So don't get fooled by this lie. 0.0 overall rating by Anonymous Adjusors Don't Like to Call Back I bought a new car at the very end of November. I insured through GEICO because it was so much cheaper than every other insurance! I loved it! Mind you, I'm 19. Less than a month after buying my car, it stalled on me at a red light. It wouldn't restart, and I ended up having my rear end completely destroyed by a jeep. The vehicle was totalled and signed over to the police station. Since Dec. 27th I have tried time and time again to get ahold of my insurance adjustor. I was diagnosed with Syatica at the hospital, and reffered to a back/pain specialist. I was told I can't return to work until I see the specialist. I've also had to have an MRI. Everytime the hospital or my back doctor call, my adjustor doesn't return any of the phone calls or answer. So I'm stuck because I can't see my doctor unless the insurance company OK's the appointment. And if I can't see my doctor I can't work. I would give them negative stars if I could. 0.0 overall rating by Anonymous Dishonest Representatives I was hit by a Geico customer, and getting my car repaired has been nothing but a nightmare. It has been one month. Even though the woman that hit me was ticketed and totally at fault (my car was parked when it was hit) I have had to track down the police reports and documentation to prove that Geico should pay the claim. When they finally accepted liability, they sent me to one of their adjusters at a Geico repair center. They tried to badger me into having my repairs done there, even though I told them that I would not. I brought in 2 estimates, but the estimate that their adjuster worked out was like $400 less, and didn\'t include all of the parts that the other estimates did. When I questioned him about this, him said he didn\'t know what that part was, so he didn\'t put it down. (How can a claims adjuster not know the parts of a car???) The adjuster was rude, condescending, and kept pushing me to take a rental car, which I did not need. I told him this, but he said he was going to give me one anyways. I told him I didn\'t want one, and the car rental place called me so quickly after I left that I now think that Geico is getting some sort of kick-back for lining up car rentals. All in all, I feel like I have been royally shafted. I have spent over a month trying to get my car fixed, missed almost 2 days of work because of this (which they will not reimburse me for) and have been shorted by almost $400 for the repairs on my car because the Geico adjuster doesn\'t know one part from another. 0.0 overall rating by Jessica Lied to By Customer We were hit from behind. The police report verifies this FACT, but the guy is insured by Geico so he decided to tell them a complete different story than he told the police. So they believed him. Forget the police report. They won\'t cover a thing. I guess if you are dishonest Geico is the way to go. They won\'t even trust a police report. We were disgusted after our last call with them. We both got off the phone feeling like we were being mistreated because of someone who decided to simply not tell the truth. And Geico chose to believe a lie over a police report. That sill blows my mind. I will never use them as my provider after this. 0.0 overall rating by Anonymous Investigation Lasting For Months I was rear ended by a Geico policy holder almost 2 months ago. I stopped for a stop sign and he admitted to playing on his cell phone. Geico still hasn\'t paid a dime, they keep telling me its pending investigation. What the hell are they investigating, the state police accident report clearly shows him at fault. Geico\'s insurance rating is 3rd from the bottom, now I know why. Geico sucks 1.5 overall rating by 11 Yr. Customer Called to Cancel, Cost Dropped 40% I Had 1 claim in 11 years and it was the worst experience ever. Agent was rude and unhelpful. It took over one month to fix $5000 in damage. Price was crazy with4 vehicles. When I called to cancel they dropped the price 40%. That goes to show you how much they rip you off, go elsewhere. 0.0 overall rating by R. Steiner Intentionally Avoiding Making Me Whole On 4/21/13 my almost new Equinox was t-boned by a Geico insured driver who was speeding. The other driver was preoccupied with her cell phone as she was driving. I contacted my insurance company who contacted Geico. After many, many difficult conversations, I was able to get my car repaired, my way, the right way. However, while my car was being repaired Geico claims supervisor refused to provide me with a vehicle equivalent to my Equinox, which, according to my insurance company and South Carolina Tort law I was entitled to. Every Geico employee I spoke with kept telling me that the accident fell under Michigan law. However, after much explaining, I was able to convince them that since the driver was a South Carolina resident, was driving a South Carolina licensed vehicle and the accident happened in the state of South Carolina, then the accident claim was subject to South Carolina law. Doesn\'t Geico train their employees? I have put in a claim with Geico to be reimbursed for the loss of value of my almost new vehicle due to the accident, which I substantiated through the dealership where I purchased the car, and two internet sources. This claim has still not been acknowledged and I am told that it will be any day now. I am a former Federal Government employee - the sector GEICO targeted as its initial customers. Two months and a minimum of 2 to 3 hours a week I have spent trying to get GEICO to make me whole. Good job GEICO. I make it a point to make all my contacts know of this ordeal. 1.0 overall rating by Anonymous Worst Claim Service My car was stolen, totaled and my claim was denied. I was bullied by the claim reps and harassed. I asked for a new adjuster and got no one. I was sent to the fraud dept. and accused of doing this. I am now being sent a to bill and storage bill from Geico. I have since switched insurance companies. Geico is great until you actually need them. 1.0 overall rating by Anonymous Irresponsible GEICO has the most idiotic adjusters who don\'t do anything but hand out money. They don\'t protect their policy holder. For instance we found out from 2 city services that proves the police report wasn\'t made at scene. 3.8 overall rating by Anonymous Long Term Policy Holder I have been a continuous GEICO policy holder since 1962. My wife and I have had 3 accident claims during this period and GEICO paid all 3 within a couple of weeks. They have been a very good company to us. 0.8 overall rating by K. Brown Cancelled On I always though that Geico didn\'t renew me and never informed me. When I went online to pay my bill, it said to contact them. When I did, they said that they sent a letter to my address (which was wrong). When I questioned that, they informed me that there was nothing they could do and it would show a laps in coverage and my premium would go from $556.00 to $2,100. 1.3 overall rating by Diana Long Frustrating Ordeal I was rear-ended by a man who is a Geico customer. The accident took place in October, my car was a total loss and I never received payment for my car until two months later. I had two of their representatives tell me I would be reimbursed for the title transfer fee and state tax. Five months later I am being told that they don\'t reimburse in Illinois. It\'s strange how no one knew this in the beginning. I checked with other nationwide insurance agents and they pay these fees in Illinois out of courtesy because their customer caused the accident. 1.8 overall rating by Sharon Lack of Communication I was hit head-on by a driver who was texting on his phone. Thankfully, we both were just going about 20 MPH. The GEICO insurance adjuster did not see my car for almost a week. She then called me and told me that he was totaling my car. It was supposed to be unrepairable. I heard nothing for the rest of the week. I called and she did not return my messages. Another week later I did get a call from her letting me know that the check was in the mail. 3.5 overall rating by Anonymous Good Claims Experience I just had my claim settled from GEICO. They got me a rental vehicle the day after the accident and had my car repaired at Collision Max in a good amount of time. I was impressed! 0.8 overall rating by Ryann Won\'t Cover Medical Bills After Accident I was hit in a head-on collision. I live in NY which is a no-fault state. Since the accident, Geico has denied my treatments over and over again. Then they sent me to a doctor that they hired to tell them that I don\'t need treatment any longer! Geico has raised my premium 3 times within the past year and I\'ve been with them for 11 years! And not to mention the accident wasn\'t even my fault, but I have to pay for everything! 0.8 overall rating by Ken Kid With A Permit Ruined My Car, Geico Doesn't Care I had a 1969 Camaro. I was outside washing the car for a show when a girl with a learners permit and a cast on her foot came around the corner and crushed the passenger side of the car. After 2 months, Geico is still giving me excuse after excuse. 1.5 overall rating by Anonymous Raised Rate Then Offered To Lower When I Threatened To Cancel I have been a customer for 20 years. In all of those years I have filed two claims. They raised my rate over 20% after the second claim and sent me a very nasty threatening letter when they did so. I called customer service and they said they couldn't do anything about the rate hike other then to lower it if I removed myself from the policy and just left my wife as a customer. I year later I called to advise them that we were dropping them. When I did so, they literally begged for me to stay, apologized about the rate hike and letter and even offered to lower my rates to the pre-claim rates. I told them they should have thought about this before they did the rate hike and sent out the nasty letter. Prior to this incident they were always pleasant to deal with, other then the fact that they always tried to steer you to one of their "preferred" auto body shops (which I used and they did sub-par work). 3.8 overall rating by Anonymous Fast and Quality Repair We just switched to Geico and had a small accident; a hit & run in parking lot while parked. Geico sent us to an authorized dealer which had rental cars on site. We did have to call twice to try to get adjuster to look at the car sooner, but other than that everything was smooth and quick! 0.8 overall rating by Luis Dishonest And Disrespectful I had my car wrecked by a careless driver insured by Geico. Geico totaled my car and did not consider the preventive maintenance that I had made in my vehicle few weeks before. I had spent more than 50% of my vehicle's value in improvements to make it safer and more reliable. Geico offered a ridiculous small value on my car. The adjuster did not listen to my complaints and said that they would never settle the case for the amount I was asking. 1.0 overall rating by Theresa C. Wanted A Quote, Not A Policy Change I have been with Geico for several years. I liked the fact that I could do most things online or over the phone easily. In fact one day I went online to remove a van I had sold. While doing so I noticed a TOOL to get a quote for adding a driver. My nephew was thinking of moving to FL, so I thought let me see what it would cost to add him to my policy. The so called QUOTE added him to my policy WITHOUT my permission. When I called, I was told they automatically add YOUNG drivers whom you get a quote for. You have no choice and they WILL NOT remove them. THEY NEVER show this warning on their so called quote tool. I had to fax a copy of my nephews current coverage to get them to make the change. 0.8 overall rating by Anonymous Unauthorized Policy Changes Geico added my ex-husband, who doesn't even live with me or have the same last name as me, to my policy and as a result my rates quadrupled. I called them and repeatedly begged for them to take him off. I said I have proof he lives somewhere else and they still refuse to take him off. My payments went from $150 to $348 a month for a 6 month policy! 1.5 overall rating by Henry Cancelled On And Not Told After nineteen years with the company I got no warning that my insurance was canceled, until I received a letter from DMV telling I have no coverage. 3.8 overall rating by Amanda Nothing But Praises I recently had an accident where I rear-ended someone who had no brakes lights, no driver's license, or insurance. I had to have my car towed because of all the fluids pouring from under the car. I called the claim center and was met with amazing customer service which I needed because I was so upset. By 8am the next morning the adjuster was looking at my car and had it towed to our body shop of choice. They even made my reservation to pick up a rental car when I originally called in the claim. I am so heart broken because I thought my car was going to have to be totalled because of the extensive damage but since it was within about $100, the adjuster worked with me. HE WAS AWESOME! I got my car back and it began to run hot which was quite alarming. The adjuster put it back in the shop and within a few minutes had approved the necessary fixes since they had already put so much money into my car. He then approved for me to get another rental until the repairs were complete. I'm sorry that all of you have had negative experiences but I can only sing their praises. I had the same experience with a comprehensive claim last year. Geico, you get an A+ in my book!! Thank you for everything you done to help me! 0.8 overall rating by Anonymous Long Repair = Less Money A geico customer crossed the center line. Our car was crushed and we were not at fault. We needed a rental vehicle while ours was being fixed. Geico was supposed to reimburse us for the rental. They determined that the repair took longer than they thought it should and reimbursed us for less than half of rental charges. 0.8 overall rating by Anonymous Poor Customer Service The customer service is horrible and agents are condescending. They are very polite when you initially sign up for coverage, but the attitude changes as soon as a claim is filed. 1.3 overall rating by Anonymous Canceled On For No Reason I will NEVER buy car insurance from Geico! They cancelled my policy without my knowledge! I was totally shocked when I found out that I had been driving around without car insurance for almost 4 weeks! I was with Geico for over 6 years. I have never been in an accident. I have never filed a claim. I have NO traffic violations on my record! Geico never sent me a letter or an email stating my policy was cancelled. I had to pay a bunch of crazy costs for having a lapse in insurance, even though I had no idea, and Geico did absolutely nothing, didn't even give an explanation as why the policy was cancelled. So unprofessional, rude, and thoughtless! The lower cost you may pay at the beginning will just amount to more costs later. Do not insure with this horrible company! 1.5 overall rating by Anonymous You Get What You Pay For I was called by Safelite Glass through GEICO when traveling from Florida to Las Vegas. A rock damaged windshield and they do not want to put the same windshield back on my car. I was upset about getting a cheap piece of glass on my car without the official logos that are required by Mercedes to keep the certification. Always ask before buy insurance that if there is an accident are they going to replace with original parts. 0.8 overall rating by Anonymous Difficult To Work With I was driving on straight road. The other driver, who is at fault, came out onto the road and didn't yielding to me. They caused the accident. The person in the wrong tried to leave the scene of accident too. Geico paid for the damages to his car, but forced me to hunt them down to get any costs paid for. 1.0 overall rating by J. Williams Cancelled On But Still Paying I wanted to file a claim for a mechanical breakdown. When I called, I found out I am no longer covered, but I have been paying for this particular coverage for over a year now. It sadden me that I had to breakdown to find this out. I have file only one claim in 24 years I was hoping for a better response. 3.5 overall rating by Anonymous Quick, Consistent, Friendly My experiences with GEICO have been great and their phone agents have been terrific. I've had two claims in the past two years - one me, one somebody else - and the repair process was painless, the service solid, and the rates have stayed the same. The customer service has kept me loyal! 0.8 overall rating by M. Miller Additional Charges After 10 years of being a GEICO customer, they want to add an additional $150 per month ($1800/year) just because they claim I missed one payment, which was made and have a record of it. Does anything of this make any sense. Then the classic explanation is that "by law" they must charge us more because of a lapsed statement. Can someone find me the "law" says they have to charge more money, please?! 1.0 overall rating by Anonymous don't Expect To Get Your Deductable Back Although I have been notified by my insurance company that the Geico customer that rear ended me at a stop light has accepted full responsibility for the accident, I am still in a months long process of getting my deductible back. 1.5 overall rating by Anonymous Low-Ball Estimate My vehicle was involved in a collision and was declared a total loss. GEICO uses a company named CCC Information Services to appraise vehicles for insurance purposes. The report that CCC ran on my vehicle to determine its current market value was fraudulent. The vehicles used in the CCC Valuescope report were not comparable to my totaled vehicle. GEICO under-valued my claim by over $3,000. Even though I had $900 of rental car coverage, GEICO took away my rental car as soon as they made their settlement offer to me (which was within three days after the accident.) GEICO knows that most of their insured are forced to accept their settlement offer because they need that settlement check to go out and buy another car. To contest their settlement offer costs money one would have to hire an attorney to defend you if you decide to take GEICO to court. Trying to negotiate with them did not work for me. I sent them vehicles of the same year, make, and model from dealerships located where my car was garaged to prove the value of my car and all GEICO did was come back with a counter offer of an additional $224. If you decide to contest the settlement offer and take them to court, you cannot cash the settlement check. If you file a lawsuit against GEICO, their lawyers will drown you in legal paperwork and the case could be in court for 4 months. 1.3 overall rating by Anonymous No Coverage For Medical Bills I have had full coverage for the past 15 years with Geico, GEICO paid for fender benders with no problem however my wife (65) and I (75) were injured in a no fault accident. GEICO offereed my wife $1,000 and me nothing. 3.3 overall rating by Anonymous Outstanding Customer Service I was hit by a drunk driver who left the scene. They got my car taken care of in no time at all and all the reps I dealt with were very responsive to my needs. 1.0 overall rating by Anonymous Poor Customer Service I was given incorrect information over the phone. there were many billing discrepancies. Their customer service is horrible! 0.8 overall rating by Anonymous Denied Claim We were rear-ended by a woman insured by Geico. She tried to bribe us not to call the police or her insurance. Then the woman turns around and tells police that some car hit her from behind and drove off. It takes over one month for Geico to send an investigator out to photograph the alleged damage to the woman's car, which amounted to scratches on the bumper meanwhile our car's bumper is completely destroyed. It breaks the laws of physics to say that this woman was telling the truth! But Geico clearly had a reason to deny our claim -- because it would come out of THEIR pocket. I asked for evidence, pictures anything to prove to me that this woman who tried to bribe us was not lying, but Geico stonewalled us. 1.0 overall rating by Al Raised Rates After A Ticket They charge me $13/month more because I'm married! Three years ago, I received a seat belt ticket as a passenger in a work truck. NY doesn't count that as a moving violation. Geico raised my rates $240 because of that. 1.3 overall rating by Anonymous Poor Underwriting On two different insurance policies I had only problems with underwriting. The reps were unresponsive and incompetent. 1.0 overall rating by Anonymous No Communication They cancelled my policy without notifying me because my bank card had expired. I didn't find this out until I called them to get a policy card because I lost it. The rep told me that I hadn't been insured for a month! No one called emailed or mailed anything. 0.8 overall rating by Anonymous Not Enough Evidence For A Hit And Run Geico refused to pay for a hit and run claim. They said there was not enough evidence to back up the claim even though I had the guys license plate number and description of the vehicle. Geico was the insurance company of the hit and run driver. The truth is that there was plenty of evidence, but since the guy did not stop they dodged the claim. 2.8 overall rating by Anonymous Great Customer Service, Not-So-Great Price Tag I was nervous about switching to Geico because I'd always been used to dealing with a single insurance agent and not a 1(800) number. However, the low premium for comprehensive and collision coverage was worth it (only $500 for six months). I was especially surprised and pleased with Geico's service when my husband got into an accident and just about totaled our car. Geico handled every aspect of our claim--from hiring the tow truck, to booking the rental car, to completing the repairs. However, I was extremely dissatisfied with my rates after the accident. Not only did my premium increase, it doubled ($1120)! Geico's rates are a sham and they don't fully explain how the rates are calculated (I called to find out). I entered in all of the same information online on Geico's site to get a new quote (accident and all), and the rate was only $721. Somewhere along the line Geico is not being fully honest, and I will have to take my business elsewhere. 0.8 overall rating by Susan M. Slow Claim Processing My Camry was struck in a parking lot on and 3 months later I have yet to be compensated for the damage to get my vehicle fixed. Their client accepted the liability and so did Geico. I have had to call countless times to receive the $4,528 to fix my car. 1.5 overall rating by Anonymous Poor Claims Process Practices The nicest company when it takes your money and the worst service when it something actually happens to you. A burglary happened to my vehicle few weeks ago where someone broke into my car (smashed the car window) and took ~$3,000 worth of my personal belongings. What Geico did was give me a repair rate that's 3X more than what it actually costs. 1.3 overall rating by Anonymous Low-Ball Estimate They use a formula to low-ball you with and there is no negotiation. 0.8 overall rating by Anonymous Low-Ball Estimate A Geico insured driver failed to yield to oncoming traffic while making a left turn across two lanes of traffic. Both cars were totaled. She was ticketed for failure to yield. Four people received multiple injuries. More than a year later, we haven't seen a penny. They tried offering half of the value of the car and nothing for medical bills. 1.5 overall rating by Anonymous You can't Save 15% Every 6 months, my rates have gone up. It's either because of hurricanes, my zip code, or a "high ratio of uninsured motorist in FL". My most favorite excuse was, "you lost your new car discount". 1.0 overall rating by Anonymous Poor Customer Service We had a claim and they did everything to try to get us to leave them alone. We were not at fault and even when we sent copies of the law, they still wouldn't pay and played games with us. we've been trying to send the same fax for 2 weeks because they keep claiming they didn't get it. 0.8 overall rating by Anonymous Body Shop POV I just spent all morning on the phone with an adjuster and his supervisor to try to convince them that GEICO needed to pay for the new parts that I ordered to repair a vehicle that was hit by their insured 15 days ago. Their requirements are junk yard and Taiwan parts even on liability claim! This old body man that's been doing fair and honest work for 30 years don't know anything?? Who's fixing this car? Diminished Value Big Time!! 1.0 overall rating by Anonymous I Paid, They Cancelled My Policy I submitted a payment online and received a confirmation. Geico cancelled my policy, so I called. I gave them the confirmation #. All they could say is that they could not find the confirmation, EVEN THOUGH I GAVE IT TO THEM! I had to restart the policy so I could drive home from work with no worries. Instead of the $99 that I usually pay, I had to pay $400 to restart and my premium jumped to $189. 1.8 overall rating by A. Miller don't Use Geico Claim Express We got suckered into using Geico Claim Express by their promises of a quick turn around on our auto repair and by their promise to stand by the work as long as we have the car. We were promised that our adjuster would oversee the work and keep us in the loop. Our car was first promised to us last Tuesday. When my wife hadn't heard anything, she contacted body shop who next promised Thursday, then Friday, then Monday... and now a whole week later and we still don't have our car. I called Geico to ask about a rental and they said that's between us and the body shop despite the fact that Geico made the assertion along with the body shop that we would have the car last Tuesday. 3.5 overall rating by Anonymous Awesome Customer Service I had great experience with Geico claims department. My car got hail damage and I didn't call Geico to file a claim. My neighbor called them for a claim and Geico people knocked every door in our neighborhood and settled claims on the spot. I was amazed by their customer support. 1.5 overall rating by D. MacDonald Poor Communication I received a past due notice threatening to cancel my insurance. Geico failed to provide me with any prior notice either by email or mail on the renewal of my policy which they issue every six months. 3.5 overall rating by Alex Pretty Pleased I had a no-fault accident. The other person had same Geico insurance. I didn't have any problems (it cost ~$4000). In the winter my windshield cracked from one side to another. I submitted the claim online and in 2 hours I got a phone call back from Geico. The same day I got the windshield changed. I recently moved to FL. At the DMV I was told that I need Florida insurance and so I called Geico. I could immediately talk with someone and I asked to send a fax with the insurance card saying Florida on it. I got the answer "Done" in seconds. My experiences were good so I'm shocked to see such a low rating from others. 1.3 overall rating by Anonymous Bad Customer Service I guess low rates will only get you so far until you get into an accident. I waited 5 days after the accident to get a call back from their claim department. I had to deal with the other person's insurance company myself and get my car repaired. Geico didn't do a thing to help me. 1.3 overall rating by Anonymous Bogus Claim GEICO put a claim against my insurance for $600 for a claim by someone I don't even know. I never hit anyone, never gave my insurance information to anyone, never gave my name to anyone regarding any claim. When I asked why they did this, I was told that they were notified by another driver that I rear ended her. I think I would remember that! Have no idea who this woman was, they wouldn't give me her name, and I didn't even know it was on my insurance until I switched and the new insurance agent told me I had an "incident" on my record. 0.8 overall rating by Anonymous Poor Customer Service I got rear ended by one of their insureds while sitting at an intersection. It has been nothing but problem after problem. After one week, I'm still without a rental car. They always have some excuse. 0.8 overall rating by Anonymous Mishandled Claim To make a claim, I had to draw several diagrams using a computer which made it hard to show exactly what happened. In the last 30 years I have caused no accidents. A driver was speeding through a parking lot and hit my car. There was no substantial damage, but he wanted a police officer there to make a report. He lied on record to the police and to his insurance company, Gieco. He didn't admit guilt. He said that he was parked behind me. He was not. I had 3 witnesses in the car to verify my story and disprove his. Gieco did not contact any of my witnesses. Gieco paid the driver of the other car $1,300 in damages and paid me $0. They estimated my damages to be $550. My deductible was $500. 1.0 overall rating by D. Hardy Poor Customer Service My daughter bought a new car. The insurance was changed and about six months later she had and accident. Geico said they had no insurance on this car. The insurance was still on the car that was traded in. We had a totaled car and because it was her fault, damages and medical bills on her and not the other car owner. A year or so goes by. My daughter gets married and moves away. Geico would not take her off my insurance. After months of faxing them proof of her address, they changed my coverage to liability only. I only found out about a few months later from my auto loan company, not Geico. My bill didn't go down. I switched companies after this, but today I get a letter from a collection agent saying I owe Geico $70 and some change. 1.3 overall rating by S. LaFaver Refuse to Pay If you use Geico, just know that if your car is damaged they will fight tooth and nail to prove everything you say is wrong. If they can weasel their way out of paying for ANYTHING, they will. I have spent literally hours on the phone arguing damages and it is like being put on a witness stand. In the end, they just wear you down and you throw your hands up and pay for the repairs yourself. 1.3 overall rating by Anonymous Kicked To The Curb... Everything was fine until a teen driver t-boned me at 90 MPH. My car was totaled. My body almost totaled too. I got bottom dollar for my car. $5.00 each for 4 brand new tires and an 800 # that refused to cooperate or help in any way. I'm still in so much pain. I had to pay all medical bills, $35,000, even though I had full coverage. 1.3 overall rating by Anonymous Negative Stories Are True I made the unfortunate switch to GEICO to save some money. It turned out to be the biggest mistake of my life! I was severely hurt after our car was struck. GEICO was nowhere to be seen and didn't want anything to do with me or my passengers. GEICO had local agent to contact me and then dragged their feet and denied, denied, denied. 0.8 overall rating by Anonymous Zero Rating If Possible! I was in an accident. The woman hit me. Without any real information and within 30 seconds of my initial call to them, they said it was my fault. I told them that I would like to fight it because of the circumstances. The man didn't even want to deal with it and rushed onto the next question. They set up my towing and the body shop to take it for repairs. I tried to contact the adjuster for 2 and a half weeks. couldn't get her to return calls. Never answered the phone after about 3 pm in the afternoon. Finally my car was done. I picked it up and got it about 4 miles down the road, it started rattling and clanking and shaking around. It sounded like it was going to fall apart. We drove it back and had the shops production manager take a test drive in it. We were able to duplicate the sound and they heard it. The following day I received message that the production manager couldn't duplicate the sound and they were unable to hear anything to fix. They said if there was a sound it was a suspension bearing and wear on the tire. My car had NEVER made any kind of noise or rattle. I've never heard any car shake and rattle the way my 2007 did. Its a fairly new car. I am the first owner of it and take care of it. It was on the same side my car was hit and badly damaged. They continued to say that it is wear and tear on the vehicle and had nothing to do with the accident. They also said that the accident would have no affect on the suspension of the car. I called Dodge and they said that absolutely an accident could cause damage to the suspension. It seemed like Geico didn't want to pay for anything. I've been a customer of Geico for 10 years. I've had one claim and it wasn't my fault over 5 years ago. They are terrible and treat their customers like CRAP! I'm taking my car to another shop and i hope they find more damage from the accident and Geico has to pay. 1.0 overall rating by Richard Asked to Pay I had a credit on my account from a misplaced payment. They sent me a refund check. Then I had a rate increase and found a new carrier. I asked the rep on the phone if I owed anything. She said "no". Months later, I get a bill in the mail from Geico saying I owe $122.74. What? I am confused? Supposedly the refund check and the misleading information the rep told me ended up being wrong. 0.8 overall rating by Anonymous Slow Claim Processing If you are involved in an accident with one of their insured's be prepared to wait a very long time before you hear from anyone and longer before you get offered any money. 1.0 overall rating by Anonymous won't Pay Claim I have been a loyal Geico customer for over 5 years. Recently I had an accident in which I was injured. I paid for $10,000 worth of medical expenses on my policy, but they maxed my payments to $3,000. How am I responsible to pay my payments on time to keep my policy, but when I need my policy I don't get what I pay for? 0.8 overall rating by Anonymous Slow Claim Processing I was hit by one of Geico's customer's. It was her fault. Months later, still no bills have been paid by Geico. 1.3 overall rating by Anonymous Punishes Wife for Husband's Driving Record I recently received notice that GEICO refuses insure ME because of an issue on my husband's driving record. My husband was wrongfully charged with a DUI. All charges were dismissed in court. Once everything was cleared up legally, my husband received notice from GEICO that they were refusing him coverage even though the DUI was wrongfully charged. Even more frustrating, GEICO's "policy" says that since I am his spouse, I am not eligible for insurance essentially by association of sharing the same last name. My driving record is completely clean. 1.3 overall rating by Anonymous didn't Have Our Back The customer service at Geico is terrible! We were accused of a hit and run accident and so we were frantic and called our insurance company thinking they would protect us! WRONG!!! Our agent did not try to protect us in any way and in fact gave our information to the other party. We requested that she not pay this claim until all police reports and other investigations were complete! She did just the opposite and paid the claim. She would not tell us what the damages were or the cost of repair nor would she show us any pictures of the damaged car. Now that's customer service!! 3.8 overall rating by Anonymous won me over I was rear-ended by a Geico policy holder. I had the person who rear-ended me call Geico from the accident scene. I called my insurance agent who told me "You don't want us to get involved. Call Geico and have them help you." I spoke with a great examiner who spoke with us both. The examiner was great. I was in a rental that same day. Geico paid for it. My car had already started repairs with their auto express body shop. 3.5 overall rating by George Geico is great! They came out to my house the day after my car accident and provided a rental car for me to get to work. I have never been in an accident before and GEICO took care of me. I give them an A and recommend to everyone. 1.8 overall rating by Anonymous Cheap Yes, they are among the cheapest of insurance companies, but you get what you pay for. I had Geico for 2 years and always made my payments on time. Then I had a claim. My motorcycle was stolen and they looked for loopholes to deny my claim. They went to the extent of investigating the claim. I provided ALL the info they requested immediately. 2.5 overall rating by Jim One accident I was a happy customer with Geico. No accidents for 2 years. Then after a minor fender bender and a claim against me for $900 (over the $500 mark), they raised my insurance premium and I overpaid for another year. What a joke. The Geico associate promised a lower auto insurance rate after my term finished with no more accidents, but it never happened. 1.3 overall rating by Carl Customer Service Stinks I was told by customer service that if I didn't go and get the accident report they would side with the other driver. 2.3 overall rating by Bob gieco needs to hire new help.... GIECO customer service is terrible... I got into a car accident, called to report it and it took forever. Other than that, everything else is fine. Why get cheap on the customer service? 3.3 overall rating by Frankie Longtime Happy Customer My driving record is impeccable, but my son recently totaled his car under my insurance. My premium didn't go up after my son's accident!! AMAZING!! 0.8 overall rating by Anonymous Creative Billing After signing up online for a certain amount, GEICO reviewed my driving record and doubled my cost for a policy. After some discussion I relented and paid the additional amount. One month later they again tried to bill me and claimed it was necessary to raise my rates again, quadrupling my rates. I canceled my policy and they charged me 200% of my original rate to cover me for a month and even went as far as charging me $36 for speaking to them on the phone. 1.8 overall rating by Confused I got into an accident with another Geico customer. After promising a claim for $1000, somehow they changed their mind and said it was not anyone's fault so I never got any money. 3.3 overall rating by Greg Geico is a great company No complaints after 6 long years. Thanks Geico. Keep up the great coverage!! 1.5 overall rating by Anonymous Slow Claim Processing I have been patiently and politely dealing with Geico on a claim where I rear ended a car. They have supposedly paid the other person for their damage, but I'm beginning to wonder since they have been stringing me along since the accident date. The adjuster told me what I should have receive a notice that my car would be totaled. I have sent him a copy of the paperwork he requested. For the last five weeks he has not sent the paperwork on to be signed off on. I had had no problems with Geico before either, but it only because they didn't have to do any work for me. 0.8 overall rating by Anonymous Horrible Service I was recently rear-ended by a Geico insurance holder. It has been a nightmare trying to get my claims agent on the phone. She called me the first two days after the accident, and then after that just stopped. I have called her repeatedly and left messages but she hasn't called me back. 1.8 overall rating by Anonymous hard to deal with My 2008 Ford Fusion was stolen and recovered by the police a week later. All of the inside was stripped or rip up. My keys were lifted out of my pocket, so I had to get a ride home that night. The next day I when to pick up my car, and it was gone. Philly Police located it after somebody call them about people breaking into my car again. I called Geico. Their rep asked my for my phone records, statement, and friend contact number. Everything she asked for, I gave her. On the phone record, I blacked my friends numbers the days before the car was stolen. The agent called my house and left a message saying the phone records were not good and I was hiding something. I'm the victim. My car was stolen. Why does GEICO want my phone record anyway. So I called the rep and asked her why the phone record? She won't not say anything or tell me how the report was going. Three months later and still nothing. I have called and called but get the run around. 1.0 overall rating by Deb B. Our Rates Went Up Someone with a scooter hitched to the back of their car pulled into the median with the scooter sticking out in the road way. My 17 year old son was unable to change lanes and had to hit the rear end of the car with the scooter, but because the person did not have the scooter insured, GEICO filed the scooter on our policy making our rates go up even MORE. 1.5 overall rating by Anonymous Poor Claims Process Practices I have been a long standing customer with no prior claims. I was involved in a car accident that was not my fault and had severe damage to my back. The person who hit me had no insurance. The claims adjusters were rude and ultimately denied my claim. I am left with over $30,000 in medical bills to be paid by me, a herniated disk, and gastritis from the injections. 2.0 overall rating by Sue Fell asleep I haven't had an accident in more than 10 yrs. I switched to Geico, because I needed insurance and was out of work, and they seemed financially the way to go. I started working again this winter, and not use to long hours on my feet fell asleep at a stop light after stopping and slowly moved into a truck ahead of me. I called Geico immediately and they seem to handle everything efficiently. I didn't get a ticket from the police officer on the scene, and I caused only damage to my car and not a scratch on the truck. Geico decided to drop me a week ago, something with their underwriters. I haven't had an incident like that since. I was just over worked that day, but now I have to look somewhere else for car insurance. 0.8 overall rating by Anonymous Poor Experience I was involved in an accident. The person that hit me has Geico. Geico reps never called to see how I was. I contacted them after getting the police report. They repaired my car. When I spoke with the claims adjuster about pain and suffering she told me that Geico wasn't responsible for that. 1.3 overall rating by Dan T. Poor Customer Service They take your money claiming they insure travel trailers in Massachusetts, then refuse to provide proper documents so you can get your trailer registered. When you try to call to cancel all the agents are conveniently busy. They take your name and number and never call you back. 1.8 overall rating by Anonymous Slow I have been with Geico since I first got a car when I was 16. My rate is high because of an accident 3 years ago, but that's understandable. I recently purchased a new car, and my fiance accidentally hit a parking pole with it, causing some minor/medium damage. I called Geico immediately and made a claim, and asked if I should go through my dealership for a tow truck but they said they would take care of it. The tow truck took almost 3 hours, when they said 45 minutes. Then I was told it would take almost a week to even get an adjuster to look at my car, even though when I look online it says someone has already been assigned to it, and It's already at the body shop just waiting to be taken care of. Every time I call, they tell me within 24 more hours. Plus, I can't get a rental car because I'm 23 and they are telling me It's going to take 3 weeks so I can't get to school or work for that long. Very upsetting. 1.5 overall rating by Anonymous confusion over reporting an accient I got into an accident, which was not a result of my fault. This is the first and only accident that I have ever had. I went on the Geico website, logged in, and clicked on report an accident. It brought me to the "report a loss report". The first thing that says on top is "do not file this report if you are not planning on claiming damages," which I was not planning to because I only had a small bump, which is lower then the deductible. I called Geico customer services to make sure that I didn't have to file or report anything. The rep told me that I didn't have to do anything. He didn't ask my name or insurance policy number, so they didn't record the conversation. I didn't get his name either. Later on I got the letter that I'm being sued and Geico refused coverage b/c I didn't properly and timely report an accident. 1.3 overall rating by Anonymous Canceled On After DUI I had Geico for over 17 years and never had a single claim. As a scientist, l had every discount available and the best driving record. After I got a DUI (regular, not extreme), l received the cancellation notice. 1.0 overall rating by Anonymous Poor Claims Process Practices I got hit by a driver who was insured by Geico. It has been a month now. At first they going to pay me, but when I went to meet with the adjuster, Geico changed their mind about paying me for the damages done to my car.. even when the accident was the insured fault. 3.3 overall rating by Patrice Always been GREAT !! I have been in a few accidents. I have never had a bad experience with Geico. They always take care of me, and make EVERYTHING so easy. It has always been smooth. I hear about bad experiences with other insurance companies, but we love the care and consideration of Geico.! 0.8 overall rating by J. Scialdo won't Pay Anything I was involved in a one vehicle accident. I ran off the road. I did not receive any tickets. I received 18 staples in my head and totaled the vehicle. Geico tried to accuse me of insurance fraud, being that it was a new policy on a recently purchased vehicle. Geico stated that I bought the vehicle, wrecked it, waited, started an insurance policy, then went to the hospital, then filed a police report. I CLEARLY have a police report that states otherwise. 0.8 overall rating by Anonymous Low-Ball Total Loss Estimate My car was hit and totaled by a driver who was 100% at fault. He had Geico insurance. They inspected my car and gave me a unreasonable estimate. My car worth $12,000 according to Kelley Blue Book and Geico only tried to pay me $5,000. 1.3 overall rating by Anonymous Poor Claims Process Practices A car ran a stop sign and demolished the front end of my 2010 Lexus IS 25. It took Gieco 8-9 days to make a repair quote in THEIR collision facility. I am told by a repair shop claims adjuster that ONLY after market parts will be used. I moved my car to a private repair facility which Geico issues a check for over $13,000. I offer to pay $3,000 to get OEM parts. Offer accepted. 1.5 overall rating by Anonymous Misleading I had a comprehensive insurance for 1 year with Geico. When I bought this coverage, they did not informed me that collision is not covered in this policy. Today, I met an accident and when I called Geico about claim, they rudely refused to pay attention to my words and just told me that Geico wont cover any of my car damage which is around $3000. I dont understand why the hell was I paying $30-35 extra than liability if my collision was not covered. Customer representative told me that my policy covers disaster and other natural calamities, but does not cover collision. I am a student, why will I opt for covering natural disaster and not collision. With same amount of money that I pay for Geico, I can get much better coverage with other companies. 0.8 overall rating by Anonymous Employee's POV I have read each and every single complaint that folks have listed here. In the "majority" of cases I can tell you that most of the issues have to do with the individual not utilizing common sense and simply taking care of business in a responsible and common fashion. 1.5 overall rating by Terri Refused to pay claims My husband WAS Geico insured when he was cut off in traffic and seriously injured.(loss of a limb) The other driver was 100% at fault. geico paid off my husbands' vehicle at a lower price than it was worth, THEN refused a simple "property" claim from an item that was distroyed in the accident!! 0.8 overall rating by Anonymous Get real. People who write these reviews all share a common trait. They are unfamiliar with insurance and have no desire to have any knowledge about something that effects there lives so much. It's easier for dumb people to get on a website and complain than to look at themselves and the way they handle there lives. GEICO has excellent customer service and is rated as high as can be rated for claims services. If a customer has good credit and a good driving record there are almost no other companies that insure for less than we do. 3.8 overall rating by C. Cisrow Satisfied Customer of Over 40 Years I became a GEICO customer while in the military in 1969 because GEICO offered me better rates for a soldier than any other insurance company at that time. Over the 40+ years I have submitted many claims and I've never had a problem with them being honored and processed. Their staff as well as their adjusters have always been friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable. I really think they value customer service and loyalty. If either of those ever change, I will walk away in a heart beat because rates are very competitive. Today I am a satisfied customer and have been for over 40 years. 3.5 overall rating by Anonymous Satisfied Customer Great customer service and good rates. Quick response to claims. I've been a customer for a long time and I have friends that are insured with other companies. Many of them have switched to GEICO as a result of my satisfaction. 2.8 overall rating by Anonymous Decent customer service I've been with GEICO for 9 years. I had never had an accident, and my husband had only a minor parking ticket. Out of curiosity, I shopped around in the early years of having GEICO, and found it was by far the cheapest. Then I was involved in a hit-and-run. The other driver was found and cited. I learned that my old car did not have collision on it, so GEICO could do nothing to help me get the claims started, but they gave me advice on what I needed to tell State Farm (the other driver's insurance). Then after two months, State Farm FINALLY paid to fix my car. Two days after we got it back, the motor light came on, and we found it had a very big and expensive problem. We dumped it and bought a newer, used vehicle. Our insurance with GEICO skyrocketed! It went up $500 this year! We aren't sure how we can afford it. Our insurance only went up about $100 the previous year when we added my husband's SUV, so I can only assume that I am being punished for the accident that wasn't my fault. 1.3 overall rating by Anonymous Poor Customer Service i was involved in an accident which was not my fault. I was rear-ended and by bumper is falling off. Geico is not being helpful with my claim. 0.8 overall rating by James Cannot Make Auto-Pay Stop My car was not working and my inspection ran out. I sold it to a guy who likes to fix cars for a reasonable amount. The problem I had auto-billing set up. When I stopped the insurance, they never stopped. I never got any bills in the mail. They were auto debting my savings account. I was being charged draft fees. I called again to stop it. My account was debted. Then I received a letter in the mail by a collections company telling me that Geico has a judgement against me for the amount of $27.89 and that I have 30 to make a payment. 3.8 overall rating by Eric Good Customer service I had a wreck that was not my fault. Legally Geico was not obligated to do anything, but they helped me make things right. Not only did they they help me get back into another car, they did it with a speed and efficiency that is rare these days. 1.8 overall rating by Anonymous Disorganized I have been waiting 10 months for my address to be updated. I paid my payments but they did not credit a payment and canceled GEICO policy without notification. The next month I mailed my payment to pay the policy in full. GEICO never contacted me but gladly took my money for a policy they had canceled. I am still in a dispute with GEICO because they told the state I had no full coverage ins policy when in fact I did. Each time you call, you get a different rep and nothing has been done. 2.3 overall rating by H. Nguyen Canceled On We had 2 major accident and 2 minor accidents, so Geico sent us a letter to ask us to call them back so that they can raise the premium or they will cancel the police at the end of the contract. The problem is we did not receive it. We had automatic payment and never check our policy card because they will be sent to us automatically. So we didn't know our police was canceled until I was stopped by police! They could haven done it better with a follow up email or phone call or another letter. 0.8 overall rating by Donna There's a Difference Between A Quote... I have Geico insurance. I called for a quote because I wanted to see how much it would cost to add my daughter to my insurance. I didn't want to add her. I just wanted a quote. when I got my next bill, her insurance was added to mine. I had to call to have them remove her and then had to wait 21 days for them to refund me my money. 1.5 overall rating by Anonymous Poor customer service We have premium GEICO coverage, somebody crash my car. When I called Geico, they were terrible; zero communication. I didn't get paid for the damage of my car, and I had to deal with the situation by myself, because the "GEICO examinator" closed the case without letting me know and without looking at my vehicle. 1.3 overall rating by Anonymous refuses to pay claim I was rear-ended by an uninsured, drunk driver causing me to have multiple herniations in my back. I missed 2 months of work. Geico tells me they will not pay under the uninsured motorist provision. 0.8 overall rating by Anonymous won't Return My Money I used to own a car insured with Geico. I sold my car. When I called Geico to cancel my policy, they owed me a remaining balance. They claimed that they sent a check for the remaining balance twice to an address that is different from the my address on file, so I asked them to send it again and confirmed the address to them. Two weeks later, I purchased another car, so I called them to insure the new car, this time they asked me if I was married, so I gave them my future wife's name and was shocked that they added her to my insurance policy. A week later, I got the check of the remaining balance in both my name and my future wife's name on it. The bank refused to cash the check as it is not in my name alone. I tried to explain to Geico that my future wife has never been to the US and she has no Social Security number, but they still insisted that they cannot send me a check in my name alone. They want her to send them a paper from overseas authorizing them to give me my money back. I asked them to refund the money to the card and they also refused. I did not ask for my wife's name to be on the policy and they keep telling me that they want to protect her rights. Why is it always easy to take money, but hard to return it? 0.8 overall rating by Anonymous Poor Claims Process Practices I got hit by a driver. It was 100% her fault. I faxed over the police report where it stated that she was 100% at fault, and they still tried to deny the claim. 1.0 overall rating by Anonymous Poor experience When things get really tough, GEICO will not be there for you. Long story, but suffice to say - do not EVER use any GEICO preferred glass or body shops - no matter what guarantees, special offers or discounts they offer. 1.3 overall rating by Anonymous great as long as you are not filing a claim! I submitted a medical payments claim. I even faxed them the accident report, records, and bill from one doctor visit. I pay an additional premium on my policy for medical payments coverage. I have tried to get a turn-around date for my med pay claim. So far, 3 people have told me 3 different things and I still don't have a check. 1.8 overall rating by Anonymous Dropped Me After I got into my first accident I was dropped at renewal! 0.8 overall rating by Anonymous No Answer It has been over a month and GEICO still has not fixed his bike and will not return my sons calls! 0.8 overall rating by Kerry C. Poor Customer Service Do not be fooled by what a deal the first initial quote is. GEICO will find a reason to raise your premium and not even tell you! You won't know until the end of the policy. Try getting the issue resolved is a huge issue. GEICO will not respond to you and just send you to collection over a debt that they tacked on without your knowledge. 0.8 overall rating by Anonymous Poor Customer Service Too expensive. Does not pay claims. Poor customer service. 0.8 overall rating by Anonymous Know Your Rights If you are in an accident, injured, and you are not at fault, they won't offer a fair settlement for your injury. When you buy insurance get FULL coverage other wise YOU pay out of pocket for repairs or replacement. Maybe you will get something from the other insurance company but it will take awhile. Also get as much coverage as you can afford. If you have low coverage amounts and are at fault in an accident YOU can be personally liable for damages beyond your coverage limits. In other words you can LOSE everything you own and maybe still have to pay the balance for the rest of your life. If someone hits you use YOUR insurance that is why you have it in the first place. 1.5 overall rating by Anonymous Huge Yearly Increase GIECO quoted me $372 yearly for a motorcycle, but due to a $531 fender bender, their rate jumped to $916 a year. I have a credit rating of 780 and safe driving record, no tickets, and one minor accident in 15 years. 0.8 overall rating by Anonymous won't Take Liability My two sons live in Columbus. A hit and run driver totaled both of their vehicles that were legally parked on the street. The car that caused the damage was found. The owner's boyfriend, who already has a warrant out for his arrest due to another hit and run, has been advised and given 36 hours to press theft charges against him so they won't have to pay. 0.8 overall rating by H.Reifschneider Unreachable We were in an accident and our vehicle was badly damaged. All passengers taken to hospital and treated. Within the first week, we were given three different agents. The adjusters have been unreachable. 2.8 overall rating by Anonymous Looked After Me Well We have had 3 claims with Geico and through all of them I honestly have no complaints. They dealt with things fairly, squarely and processed the claims rapidly. One of the claims that we made had no witnesses to prove that the accident was not our fault. Nevertheless Geico still processed the claim without a lot of questioning. My only negative comment is that they appear to be a bit more expensive for auto and homeowners insurance. 1.8 overall rating by Anonymous Haphazard Billing I've had Geico for a couple of years and have made online payments on a regular basis. I never had a problem until a couple of months ago when my insurance was canceled and I was never notified! I just couldn't believe that, as a good and timely paying customer, this could happen to me. Thinking it was suspicious that I hadn't gotten a recent bill, I went onto the Geico website to see what the status of my insurance bill was. Imagine my surprise when I found that I couldn't log in to the site at all! Figuring that there was a problem with the website, I called the toll free number to speak with a representative and I was told that my insurance had been canceled for an entire week! I couldn't believe it - I was driving around for a week with canceled insurance. What's worse, I had to pay for the fees that I was slammed with from the DMV: eight bucks a day! If you're going to rely on Geico keep a watchful eye on your bill and if you don't get one, you are better of calling to find out what the deal is! 2.8 overall rating by Sandy GEICO Online I love the online accessibility of Geico services! I can log in, view my bill, pay online, and even file a claim without ever having to pick up the phone! Insurance management is becoming easier and easier all the time! Plus, whenever I need new insurance cards GEICO allows me to have them within minutes - I just ask my geico rep to email a copy and they send me a PDF file that works in Adobe and I can print it out from my pc! Awesome!!! 1.3 overall rating by Don No Coverage I called Geico a couple years ago to inquire about their roadside assistance coverage. They told me that it would cover our trailer which is insured by Geico. Last weekend my wife had a flat tire on the trailer. When she called Geico, they wouldn't cover it. They made her pay for it over the phone before they'd even send a wrecker out. 3.0 overall rating by Anonymous Geico beens Great! we've only had one miner fender bender. My husband backed into the neighbors car. He called Geico immediately and reported it. Thats all it took. The neighbor received a check from Geico within a week, and our premiums have gone down each year for the last 4 years. 1.8 overall rating by Monya SOOO DISAPPOINTED!!! I had a car accident. The other party hit my car from behind at the stop sign. I called the police to have a police report taken. My back was hurting a bit and my neck injured. X-rays from the chiropractor confirm everything. I called GEICO within 3 days to state what happened in the accident. After they got my statement, I started to go to local chiropractor. The GEICO agent whom I spoke to assured me that I would be reimbursed for the time off from work and for my medical expenses. That didn't happen. 30 days later I was informed that I was at fault in this accident. Long story short: I was paying $145/mo full coverage, I got no reimbursement for time off from work, my medical expenses were not fully covered, and there is now an accident on my record. 1.3 overall rating by James Poor Customer Service They have the slowest claims process ever! If you do not get your vehicle repaired at one of there shops, expect to be hassled and delayed. In my case there was an issue with a check being issued to the wrong person. 0.8 overall rating by Anonymous won't Pay They don't like to pay claims for their own clients, much less if you're a third-party. They are saying we are 50% at fault which is ludicrous when their insured ran out in front of us making a left turn across traffic. 0.8 overall rating by Anonymous Claim not paid in full A few months ago, I was hit from behind by a Geico customer. At the time, it was my sons first birthday and I was on my way to get his cake. I was also pregnant with my second son. My son spent his first birthday in the hospital. The claims adjuster that I was assigned is not responsive. I have to keep calling her and sometimes she doesn't call back. It's been three months and the only thing they have done is repair my car. 1.8 overall rating by Anonymous Poor Customer Service They do not pay for claims like they advertise. 0.8 overall rating by Anonymous Claimed The Day After I Joined I recently had my vehicle vandalized right in front of my house a couple of days. It resulted in an estimated cost of about $1500. After doing the normal procedures (taking pictures, making a police report...) I finally called to make claim. I had a small lapse between switching car insurances and the incident happened the following day after changing to Geico. A Geico representative reported that it raises a red flag. It was a coincidence that my vehicle got broken into the next day after transferring insurances. I faxed them the police report, made a recorded statement over the phone, and explained the whole situation. About a week later a Geico Investigator comes to my home and records another statement. I showed him the pictures of the vehicle. I tell him that my fiance is a witness. Then he asks me if i would be willing to give up my phone records. Even though I have nothing to worry about, this investigator made me feel like I was the perpetrator. It's been a week and a half already and Geico has not done one thing to help me with my claim. 1.3 overall rating by Anonymous Rate Increase I've been with Geico for over seven years and have been very pleased. Recently, my wife was in a parking lot and when opening her door put a very small dent in another vehicle. The damage was so minimal it was almost undetectable on the dent ridden car that she came in contact with. There was a mix up and Geico terminated our policy. I immediately called them and got the policy reinstated. To my surprise, my six month rate went up close to $250. The excuses given to me were so ridiculous I couldn't believe it. 2.8 overall rating by Anonymous Happy I Switched When my insurance premiums kept rising with another company I thought about getting a different insurance company to handle my needs. I can't even say how happy I am about choosing Geico - it was the best decision I ever made. Not only am I thrilled with the lower premiums, but the representatives at Geico are friendly too. No matter what question I have, I'm not on hold on the phone forever, and I can actually get to talk to a real live person - not some stupid machine that pretends to recognize what I am saying! I prefer the real person approach to customer service! 1.5 overall rating by Anonymous Slow Claim Processing I can't believe the hassle I am going through just to file a claim with Geico! I had a car accident, which was no fault of my own, on October 31 and I filed a claim online with Geico. To this date, nothing has been done with my claim. In fact, I called the company that is responsible for my car financing and they have no notice of my accident from Geico at all. I can't believe that it takes an insurance company more than three weeks to make a little progress on a single claim. What's worse is when I call Geico they always tell me my claim is still being processed? What's the deal? 2.0 overall rating by Thomas T. Fearful of E-billing Options Recently, I noticed that my insurance carrier, Geico, has revamped their entire website. While it looks fantastic I have to admit I am having a little trouble navigating the site - nothing is where I expected to be. I notice they have an e-bill option and I considered signing up, but I believe that email is not necessarily dependable. I remember several times when friends of mine have sent me emails and I never got them for whatever reason. While I am quite fond of the paperless billing idea, I can just imagine not getting my bill from Geico and getting canceled without notification. 2.8 overall rating by Alice Came through for me Since I am 24 years old and single, I was fully cognizant that my car insurance premiums were going to be on the high side. I was sweating when I decided to buy a used BMW, thinking my premiums were going to be ridiculous. I called Geico and it was not as bad as I thought it would be. My insurance premiums were a lower than I expected and after six months time, because I kept my driving record stellar, my insurance costs were actually lowered. Thanks to Geico I can drive around a nice looking car and still have a little money in my pocket. 1.5 overall rating by Ina No Payments I was hit by a car while riding my motorcycle. It was a hit and run. I was really missed up. Its been almost a year now. I'm having to go threw another surgery. I had full coverage and Geico doesn't want to pay anything out. 2.8 overall rating by Anonymous Billing Is Easy I love they way Geico handles their billing. I can pay by debit card, credit card, or check, online or offline. I also like the idea that I get a receipt emailed to me the minute I pay for my insurance. I don't have to worry about my bill payment making it to the insurance on time: my payment is instantly received. In fact, as long as I pay my bill before midnight on the cancellation date, my policy remains active. There have been a couple of times I have forgotten about my bill until the last minute, but I am saved by the fact that I can hop on my PC, go to Geico's website, and pay my bill online. 2.8 overall rating by Anonymous Organized and Easy Sometimes I am terribly unorganized and important documents get lost in the shuffle. For example, sometimes the glove box gets overstuffed and I'll pull everything out to organize it, forgetting that my Geico insurance cards are in the mix. Next thing I know, I can't find the insurance cards at all. What's worse is when I pull the cards out for whatever reason and they get wrinkled, dirty, or somehow destroyed. Since I have to have my insurance cards in the glove box at all times, I used to find myself calling Geico and requesting new proof of insurance documentation. Not anymore - now I can have them printed from my home PC. 2.0 overall rating by Anonymous Rate Increase I received a ticket for driving without a seat belt in. Prior to that my record was spotless. I looked at my renewal papers last week and was shocked. I have 4 vehicles insured through GEICO, 3-full coverage and 1 liability only. I was paying about $900/6 months. My policy went up over 100% - $2,300.00/6months. 2.3 overall rating by Anonymous Strange Rules Since I have Geico for car insurance, I figured I would give them a call to get an insurance policy on my home too. I had heard that some insurance companies will give you a good deal if you combine policies under one company. I couldn't believe when I spoke to the representative that I was told that since I didn't have a current home owner's policy, I couldn't get one through Geico. I was also told that I had to have a home owner's policy from another company for a total of six months before I could get one with Geico at all! Why is Geico offering coverage that seems impossible to get? 2.8 overall rating by Gary S. Geico Website Changes for the Better I have been a customer of Geico for six years now. I regularly make online payments. I can remember when the website offered games and other such nonsense - I have to say, it worried me a little bit because I wanted an insurance company that was all business and very serious. I couldn't understand why Geico would offer games and snippets of commercials online. Now that they have cleaned up the website I feel a lot more confident that I am working with a professional insurance company concerned only with good customers service, not game playing. 3.3 overall rating by Anonymous Great Rates Always As a customer with Geico for seven years now, I can honestly say that I have never had a problem with insurance rates. No matter what's going on in my life, because I have a clear driving record my premiums have always remained quite reasonable. When I got married and added a second car to my policy the rates were still within reason. I am more than happy with the rates that Geico offers and I would never dream of switching to another company. I have heard horror stories about increasing rates and crazy billing practices. In seven years, I have not once been unhappy with Geico's billing practices. 3.3 overall rating by Anonymous Great Roadside Assistance Since I am no mechanic and a single woman, I am really concerned about breaking down somewhere and being stranded. That's when I opted for Geico's Roadside Services and I am glad I did. Geico made it totally easy for me - I called the tow service and they picked me up. I didn't have to worry about some stranger helping me and I didn't have to wonder how I was going to get my car off the highway. When I opted for Roadside service it was one of the best decisions I could make: now I can drive anywhere and always have peace of mind. 3.3 overall rating by Anonymous Respectful I had an insurance company that refused to give me insurance after I returned from abroad - I couldn't believe it; I was a loyal paying customer, I have a spectacular driving record, but because my policy fell out of effect while I was abroad, the company refused to provide me with service when I returned. I called Geico after a friend recommended the company and they didn't give me any hassles about my prior issues with being overseas and having my policy cancelled while I was away. Geico was completely understanding when the other company was not. I got treated with respect and for that I am thankful. 1.5 overall rating by Michelle didn't Completely Pay Our windshield was broken and Geico didn't pay the complete amount to get it fixed, even though they said they would. We spoke to 3 Geico people and all told us it would be no problem. 1.0 overall rating by Jack V. Expensive I have been with Geico since 2002 and for the first couple of years everything was perfect. I liked the billing options, and I thought Geico was pretty easy to work with. That was until I just got my most recent bill. Would you believe my insurance rate went up $203.00 from last year? I didn't either so I called Geico believing that some kind of error was made. Actually, the error was mine for believing Geico was a fair insurance company in terms of rates - according to the representative, various studies reveal that my car is a "high risk" for accidents, so up my bill went. Regardless of my safe driving practices by car insurance bill just went through the roof. 1.3 overall rating by Anonymous Dropped Me Geico dropped me due to accidents that I had as a passenger. I was not driving or in my car! I had to surrender my plate so my license wouldn't get suspended since I could not get affordable insurance. I'm still paying for my car, but can not use it! I would have understood if they had to raise the price on me but to drop me I feel it was very unfair! 2.3 overall rating by Teresa M. Satisfied I was on my way to work last month when another driver hit me when I made a right hand turn. The driver was trying to pass on the right hand shoulder of the road, but because he denied any wrong doing, lied about the fact that I was making a right hand turn and signaled to do so and I ended up having to settle for half the cost of my claim! While I am not very happy with the way Geico handled the claim, I can say they were pretty fast about doing so. I am also satisfied because, at least I got partially compensated and the claim process was hassle free otherwise. You win some, you lose some, I guess. GEICO is just like any other insurance company, I'm sure. 1.8 overall rating by Anonymous Poor Customer Service I've had few problems and repairs. The one thing I've needed from Geico is towing. Over the nearly 25 years I've had my vehicle, I've needed towing three times. In the last two towings customer service was very unprofessional. 2.8 overall rating by Paul G. Awesome! I decided to give Geico a try when my best friend's girlfriend mentioned the good rates they were getting through the company. I was a bit guarded at first, sure that the rates my friends were getting sounded to good to be true. I was floored when I found out that I could not only reduce my insurance costs by $200.00 a year, but that I could use the savings to add additional coverage to my vehicles - coverage that I couldn't possibly afford previously. The company is easy to get a hold of via a toll free number and for the last six months I have made easy online payments. I can't be more pleased with Geico services. 2.3 overall rating by K. McCall Great Rates for Newly Licensed Drivers I was terrified to insure my very first car. Being only eighteen and newly licensed, I have heard horror stories from my friends about the amount of car insurance they were paying. Being in college and working part time, I was scared that I wouldn't be able to afford my insurance premiums. My mom told me to give Geico a call and I love her all the more for it. My payments are broken down into affordable installments and the rates aren't so crazy that I can't meet the payments. I tell all my friends about Geico and they are all grateful when I do. 2.8 overall rating by Anonymous Attentive and Fast When I got into an unexpected fender bender two years ago, Geico was prompt and courteous. I did the responsible thing and went directly home after the accident to call in a claim. I got a friendly representative who was more than willing to tell me the proper steps for filing a claim. The entire process was so smooth that I have to admit I was surprised at the overall proficiency of the process. On occasion, I have heard about the horrible time others have had filing claims, but Geico didn't give me any problems at all. 2.0 overall rating by Anonymous Dropped Me I live alone and I was hospitalized with an unexpected illness last year. Anyway, I had always made my payments whenever they were due. While I was hospitalized, Geico billed me and when the bill wasn't paid, they canceled me. The last thing I was thinking about while I was ill was my car insurance. When I got out of the hospital I called Geico to clear up the problem - just what I needed after getting out of the hospital - Geico refused to hear me and said they were within their rights to cancel the policy. I ended up paying DMV some hefty fines for the lapse in insurance and I was forced to go with another company. 2.5 overall rating by Anonymous Complete Satisfaction I have seen other customers that are unhappy with Geico, but I have been a loyal customer for almost four years now and I have never encountered a problem with the company. The website makes dealing with Geico so simple that I hardly ever have to contact the company in person for anything. My questions are answered when I visit the website and I can quickly make changes to my account from my personal login page. I can add cars, change coverage, pay my bill and look at my last bill within seconds. I couldn't be more satisfied with the company. 2.5 overall rating by Anonymous No Complaints As a customer of Geico since 1998 I feel that I have to speak out for the company. Geico treats its customers with courtesy and makes every attempt to be fair with customers. Some of the complaints I have read seem unjustified, and I believe many of the complaints people post are due to misunderstandings and miscommunications. As long as I have been a customer of Geico's I have never had a bad experience - not one. I have never been billed incorrectly and I haven't witnessed any crazy rate hikes. I am not saying that all complaints are inappropriate, just that some of them should be reconsidered. 2.5 overall rating by Amy V Great Service Geico has great service and I couldn't ask for more from them. Getting a policy was simple - a single phone call and I paid over the phone via check. The company emailed my insurance cards and I had proof of insurance from Geico the very same day. Every question I had was answered - Geico representatives are quite informative and knowledgable. They even counseled me on what type of insurance policy would best cover my needs and advised me about optional coverage that I could later add to my policy. I couldn't help but notice that the representative never grew irritated, no matter how many questioned I threw her way. 3.5 overall rating by Anonymous Better Than I Ever Anticipated When my nineteen-year-old son had a car accident my husband and I really sweated over our insurance rates. While my son was clearly at fault for not driving carefully enough, my husband and I were quite surprised when the accident never affected our policy at all. The rate increase we expected never saw the light of day - due to our clean driving records and the extra measures we took to keep our car insurance costs to a minimum, our family didn't get forced to pay more for our insurance needs. We couldn't be happier with Geico as our insurance company. 3.3 overall rating by Anonymous Great Customer Service I am one of those customers that have never had a single difficulty with Geico. I have had other insurance carriers before I signed on with Geico and I was completely pleased when my insurance rates dropped dramatically. I currently have three cars insured through Geico; I keep my driving record spectacular and have been richly rewarded for doing so in terms of insurance rates. In all, I pay a little under $500.00 semi-annually for my car insurance - I couldn't ask for better rates than that from any other company. Plus, I can break up the payments so they are more affordable for my family. 1.8 overall rating by Anonymous Gieco Mess! I had Geico for little over a year when I got into an accident that wasn't my fault. My car was totaled in the accident and it took Geico seven months to pay the claim! Seven months! Even worse is the fact that they refused to pay for a rental until the claim was successfully underway - I was literally stranded. In the meantime I was forced to get a used vehicle and draw out of my savings to do so. I am so dissatisfied with Geico, a company that should've had my back and didn't. Needless to say, I went with a different insurance company all together. 0.8 overall rating by Val No Medical Coverage As a pedestrian, I was struck and injured by a Geico customer. Geico is doing everything to avoid paying the claim. They wanted accident reports and paperwork sent to 6 different states. Rep refuses to return calls. Three weeks later still trying to get approval for medical attention for an injury which will be permanent. 0.8 overall rating by Anonymous Poor Claims Process Practices I was rear-ended by a young man who was insured with Geico while I was at a complete stop. He said his brakes locked up then told the police that a car pulled out from in front of him and he didn't see the cars stopped ahead. I did not receive a value high enough to replace the car, not even to cover the damage. I am in a lot of pain and am continuing treatments. I am very disappointed by the customer service as they rush me off of the phone when I have questions. 1.3 overall rating by Anonymous Canceled Without Notification My license was suspended because Geico failed to show proof of insurance on a specific date that I was pulled over and ticketed. I called Geico to get it straightened out and while on the phone with me they were canceling my policy, but failed to tell me. The very next day I receive an email from Geico stating to log in to my account due to some policy changes. It said my policy had been canceled with an effective date 20 days out and to call a number to renew the policy. I called the number and was told they canceled my policy because my license was suspended and I had had 2 alcohol related tickets in the past 10 years. 1.3 overall rating by J. Ancheta Low-Ball Estimate I was happy with Geico until I got into a small accident. It was not a collision claim, but for a comprehensive claim. I took my car to a local body shop and the shop gave me a estimate. I filed a claim with Geico and was told to bring it to their adjuster. I met with their adjuster and gave him my written estimate from the body shop. This adjuster didn't even look at the the estimate and wrote his own estimate. My deductible was $100.00 and the adjuster wrote and estimate of $102.57. Geico didn't have It's customer as their priority! Their main priority is not to pay anything! 1.3 overall rating by Anonymous Late Payment I recently signed up for Geico insurance for my lease vehicle. When I applied, they quoted me a price and gave me a policy. After 2 months, I was out of work and was late with my monthly premium. They told me not to worry and I made the payment. A couple of days later I was informed by my lease holder that they had been notified by Geico that I only had liability coverage and nothing else. When I called customer service, I was told that they had found a "past due" amount on a previous policy and until I paid them, I could only get basic liability. This caused my lease holder to shut down my car until I had full coverage. This in turn cost me a job because I had no transportation. When I called the customer service rep and explained this to them they could care less. Then about 2 weeks later I received a letter from DMV saying that I had a lapse in my coverage and had to pay a $100 fine to reinstate my plates. 2.3 overall rating by Anonymous Good overall Their streamlined website makes it very simple to make changes, and their customer service representatives are always pleasant. 0.8 overall rating by Anonymous Dropped I have been with Geico for over 10 years. haven't had an accident in over 3 years and I just got a letter today that they are dropping me because I used the emergency roadside assistance three times in the last year. 3.5 overall rating by Anonymous Positive Experience I purchased a new SUV and then a month later I had my first "at fault fender bender. My car had about $4,000 in damage to the front-end. Geico paid all, but my deductible and a check was cut within a matter of a few days to the auto collision center. A few months later, this same car was stolen from a public garage while I was away on a weekend cruise. All of the electronics were stripped. Geico expeditiously opened a claim, paid the dealership and authorized over $16,000 in repairs. For the first time as a driver, at the age of 40, I've experienced a bit of bad luck. I'm so glad that I had Geico as my insurance company. It's been a traumatic experience, having a car stolen, but my Geico adjuster has been with me every step of the way. 1.3 overall rating by Anonymous No Coverage for Medical Bills I have never in my life had such an awful experience with my auto insurance policy. I was hurt badly by another Geico driver, who was 100% at fault according to Geico. Geico will deny most, if not all your medical bills, even if you are knocked unconscious, have 2 a herniated discs, and neurological issues from the concussion. If you have a high PIP policy, it doesn't matter. A year later they are still denying medical payments, even after they had their own doctors say that I needed on-going treatment. 1.5 overall rating by Anonymous Poor Customer Service Geico will not let me use a shop that I prefer to get my truck fixed. 2.0 overall rating by Anonymous Dropped Me I had a rental car and an at fault accident. They raised my rates and still I stayed with them. I had several acts of vandalism perpetrated to my car and made claims as such. I also had to use their emergency roadside service twice. I had two non-at fault accidents - one due to construction and the other was a hit and run. Each renewal period my price raised slowly up though still was considered cheap for where I live. I was recently told that I would see a drop in my rate as my at fault premium would be dropped down. Funny enough they decided to review my policy and I just got a letter telling me that they no longer can insure me. Among reasons were the two non-at fault accidents and also vandalism claims which have ceased over two years ago when I moved into a gated community. 1.8 overall rating by Greg O. Missing coverage My teenager had a fender-bender last night. I called Gieco. I know that I have their road side assistance. I was politely informed that my car and wife's car had the coverage, but my 17 year old daughter did not. I don't remember being told this. 1.0 overall rating by Anonymous Poor Claims Process Practices I leased my Prius and then had an accident. The car was brand new and ended up a total loss due to the other driver. When I leased the car, I had put down $2500 of initial payment. Today Geico is closing my lease with Toyota, but subtracting my initial payment of $2500!! When I ask why, the claim "specialist" said that this is the fair market value. How is it possible that the value of a Prius goes down $2500 after only 2 and half month?? 0.8 overall rating by Anonymous Poor Claims Process Practices The claims adjuster was very difficult to deal with. 0.8 overall rating by Michael low estimate on damages I had an accident involving a Geico customer were they pulled out in front of me while I was doing 40 MPH. My truck was totaled and Geico was quick to settle on my truck within a day, knowing that I was under heavy sedation from medication. They did not give me what my truck was worth. It took four months for them to settle the medical bills. It was virtually impossible to get the adjuster to call you back. 1.3 overall rating by Anonymous low estimate on damages Geico has pre-negotiated rates for glass replacement. They assert these are the prevailing fair and reasonable rates. If you go anywhere else to have your car repaired, expect Geico to short pay your claim. 0.8 overall rating by Danny Poor Claims Process Practices I joined Geico while I was in the Marine Corp, because I thought due to their company history, they would provide the best coverage. After 4 years with Geico, I filed my first claim against another Geico customer. My car was hit in a parking lot. This person parked his Jeep on top of a hill, above my car. When I came to my car, his Jeep was in my front bumper. I waited and got his info. I filed a claim. 2-3 months went by (during which I did do follow-up calls.) Finally I started e-mailing and calling Geico's claims department every day for a week. When I finally was told my claim was denied because the guy who hit my car claimed I unset his parking break.
