Very High Rates
The cost for the last 6 months of my policy was $1,200 +. The worst thing is is that my renewal is coming up soon and the bill that they just sent has my premium due listed as $1,859.73. They raised my costs by about $600! I am more than 80 years old and have always had a very good driving record. I called the 800 number and asked a rep to lower the medical charges. That's when I was told the State of Michigan set those standards and that they have to go by them. I know that is not true because one of my good friends pays $354 with her insurance company.
Short Term Health covered nothing
We signed up for Fortis Short Term Health Insurance coverage when we were between jobs. About a week after our coverage began, my husband had sharp pains and went to the ER. He had kidney stones. He had not been sick prior to this nor had he been to a doctor for this before. Fortis did not pay a dime on our medical bills and this, combined with my husband's job loss, sent us into bankruptcy!
