My mother has been in an assisted living community for 3 months and getting CNA to pay for anything has been a headache.
Our car was hit by someone insured by CNA. We were SITTING STILL at a RED light and their insured slammed into the rear of our car. Their driver received two tickets for being 100% at fault. After 3 months in the shop and over $16,000 in repairs, we now have to deal with CNA over diminished value. We have had an independent appraisal and also received a value assessment of more than $6,300 in diminished value and yet these people started with an offer of less than $825. We are still arguing this with them and will most likely have to sue them for the difference but in the interim, their claims person is unbelievably arrogant and patronizing.
They are nearly impossible to contact. They have consistently tried to have my policy lapse. They have billing problems. When I finally put in a claim, it was immediately denied and for the most absurd reason one could think of.
Poor Customer Service
They say you have to wait 90 days to make a claim, even though the insured will not last 90 days.
Our experience with CNA has been very positive. My parents purchased long term care insurance through CNA some time ago. Although it was expensive, it quickly paid for itself once they had to move to a nursing home. By now, they have gotten far more out of this insurance than they ever paid in. CNA pays promptly and covers exactly what they said they would. We are very grateful that my parents bought this coverage.
My aunt has CNA long term insurance. She's been in a nursing home for almost 5 months now and we have yet to see a payment. When I call, they say that they're still waiting on documents that we have proof that we faxed successfully. They say it doesn't matter. They haven't received it and until they do they're not paying. They have even threatened to close the case because they haven't received documentation in a timely manner.
Surgery Not Covered
My daughter herniated a disc at work, so they send her for pain management therapy. Nine months later, the doctor has recommended surgery. They are denying it.
Reimbursement Is a Nightmare
Getting CNA Long Term Care to reimburse the caregiver is a nightmare. They reject every claim with a standard excuse of "requested information is not received" even though you have proof it was submitted. They do not contact the issuer of the bill at any time. They will always send a written notice to the policy holder after a month or so. Then the policy holder has to try to get through to the claims department which is always lots of waiting. One person will tell you they have all the paper work, then the next time you call after waiting for payment they will tell you they are missing a piece of paper.
we've had sent over 17 letters, called, faxed, and emailed trying to get reimbursed for my mother's long term care.
Very Low Coverage
I have been involved in a huge runaround with very low results. After spending $70,000+ in premiums over the years, I have received only $6,000 in benefits for long term care for my mother.
