My father has Cigna insurance through his work. I am still in college, so I am covered as a dependent. We have a set amount that Cigna dental pro is suppose to pay towards orthodontic procedures. However, even though I am suppose to still be covered, Cigna denied my claim and my appeal even though my account and benefits clearly state I am suppose to be covered.
Cigna has denied my claim five times and every time they give me a different reason! It feels like Cigna denies your claim hoping that you'll give up.
It is difficult to get through to customer service. It is impossible to speak with a supervisor. Get an email address so that you can keep records of all of the conversations.
Horrible Service Cigna
It took them 6 months for customer service to even admit to having to pay for a claim. They cannot keep notes. Their MYCigna.com website is a joke and does not refer to accurate information.
Paying, but Uninsured
Five times in the last six months they have kicked back claims to my health care providers saying that the person is not covered. I called them up and they say that I am covered, and the provider must be mistaken.
No Coverage Because I didn't Call
When I was referred to a Cardiologist to figure out what is wrong with my heart, I went into the doctor and got many test done. About four months later I received a HUGE bill from Cigna saying every test I had done is denied. Their explanation was that when I got my card, I did not call them and tell them who my doctor was. I did not see the instructions to call printed on the back of the card.
I have been dealing with Cigna trying to have claims straightened out from 4 years ago. I still cannot get anything done. The customer service reps are not helpful. Cigna does not want to pay on any claims. They want to apply everything to the deductible leaving one hell of a bill to pay.
I have had Cigna through my company for the last two years. Cigna charges my company a little over $11,000.00 dollars a year to cover me and I pay around $160 a month. I went to urgent care to get something shot out of my eye about 8 months ago. I paid the 20% co pay of $29. I have recently been informed that the $145 bill was put towards my deductible of $300, which means, I have to pay the full amount to urgent care. Cigna has made over $16,000 dollars from me and my company and they won't pay a $145 bill.
CIGNA IS A NIGHTMARE!
Cigna either doesn't pay claims or pays them inadequately. They make you jump through a million hoops before they finally do what they are supposed to do. And if you send in forms proving that your kids are students so that coverage won't be dropped, be sure to send it certified mail. They'll claim they never got it over and over until you can prove it. Their website lists providers and even if you get a referral and use one of their providers, they'll send you a denial because you used "an out-of-network physician".
I have been getting different stories every time I talk to someone at Cigna, since my wife passed away, but they still will not pay the life insurance policy I had through my employer.
