Never Coming Payment
I have been pursuing Cigna for a measly amount for dental work they agreed to cover. Months have passed since submitting a pathetic claim for $184. First they said they had sent it to the dentist who I had already paid. That took about 6 weeks up. Then they said they had mailed out a check. After weeks of not receiving the check and numerous calls to them, they kept assuring me they had sent the check. Finally they said they had mailed it to the wrong address, even though each time I called I asked them to verify the address they mailed it to. Finally they said they would re-issue the check and once again we could expect to receive it in 7-10 business days. This was 3 weeks ago.
Maybe it is a common practice for insurance companies to tell a patient that they can not be prescribed medication. That is exactly what Cigna did. I was prescribed 1 medication and their associate told me I could not the medicine because it is not safe. The one they authorized is cheaper and MUCH WORSE for my health than the on prescribed.
Long Term Disability Denied
All I can say is that if you have Cigna, your in trouble. I can't really say what I'd like to say.
I had to go on short term disability for severe degenerative disc disease. My doctor took care of all my paper work and submitted it in a timely manner. I was approved for short term disability and then after a certain amount of time my condition got worse. Then Cigna sent me a letter stating that I would no longer be on long term disability. I appealed my decision and they still denied me even when my primary care doctor and orthopedic doctor both stated that I could not work because of my condition.
Filed a claim with Cigna for medicines purchased and still have NOT seen the reimbursement for this. Have been given false misleading information by Cigna customer service and pharmacy desk on this for almost 11 months now.
Will Only Cover A 14 Day Dose Every 23 Days
It's unbelievable how many routine things they refuse to pay for and how many creative ways they find to deny coverage. I might as well not even have insurance. I'm actually considering dropping off my work plan and just going out of pocket. There's simply no point in paying their monthly premiums. I went to the pharmacy to get a prescription for Lovenox refilled and was told I could not get it refilled. Why? Because Cigna will only pay for a 14-day dose ONCE EVERY 23 DAYS. It will be at least another 24 hours before I can get hold of the doctor's office and get them to call in the pre-authorization and have it go through the system so CVS can refill my prescription. That's all right, Cigna...I'll just sit here while my clotting disorder attacks the 6-week old baby.
In 31 years of using corporate health care, with the last 10+ years with BCBS, we have never had more than a cursory issue with any provider. Now that we have Cigna, we have spent hours on the phone talking to their customer service (they take great liberty with that title) trying to get claims to pay. They refuse to allow you to speak to a supervisor.
Denied Long Term Disibility for Lupus
I was denied in 2001 for LTD for lupus. I appealed and was still turned down.
Poor Prescription Delivery
My coverage dictates that we have to use Tel-Drug pharmacy for all chronic medications. My twins are Type 1 diabetics. They shipped the insulin to the wrong address, so it got sent back to the company. They sent it to my home address even though I had clearly stated and made them repeat back to me my work address. If you're not home and they're delivering insulin, it goes right back to the company because it has to be taken from the ice chest and immediately placed in a fridge. Did I ever get notified? Nooooooooo The rep also entered the wrong year in for my credit card, so the card got declined. Instead of calling me to tell me the scripts weren't being refilled, they just canceled the order.
Every year I submit PERFECT claims for my family's exam, glasses, and contacts. Everything is filed exactly according to the instructions on the form. It takes me 3 months or so with multiple phone calls (placed on hold for 5-10 minutes each time, as my cell phone records attest), to straighten out an average of 3-5 CIGNA VISION errors. This year they sent payment to my doctor instead of me, denied my wife's coverage even though I have had continuous coverage at the same job with CIGNA for 4 years, and denied several portions of our claim package.
