Poor Customer Service
Cigna goes out of their way not to pay claims. When you call about your claim the CSR are incompetent. I am currently without my hematology medication because they miscalculated 'days supply'. Cigna thinks a month's supply is 28.
Cigna suddenly canceled my sister's disability benefits despite her being permanently disabled for quite some time. They didn't give any other reason other than that she was "no longer disabled". So she paid out-of-pocket to get a bunch of tests by several specialists all of which confirmed her disability and then she filed an appeal. It was denied with no reason given.
Go to Your Employer
When people complain about something not covered you should go strait to your Employer. Why you ask? Because your Employer made your benefit plan Cigna is just following the rules that your Employer has told them. So if your Employer says I don't want you to cover a MRI unless it meets this criteria then, Cigna will not do it. If your Employer says a certain procedure is not covered, then it wont be. This is because your Employer is paying the part of your medical bills that you don't pay. So if a procedure is covered at 80% and you pay 20% guess who is paying the 80%? Your right your Employer. So when you complain about something not covered understand that in most cases Cigna is just following the rules your Employer has told Cigna to do!!
If you go to the ER or Urgent Care, specify that you want to be seen by a Cigna Provider only! There are hardly any ER doctors that are with CIGNA, so if you're not careful, your ER visit will be a out of network. Cigna paid $20.00 of a $500 bill.
I have had Cigna for over 5 years. Now that I have to be off work, Cigna has done their best to refuse my claim. Even though they had all of the hospital and doctors' records they claimed it still wasn't enough information.
Refuses to Pay
They instructed my surgeon on how to submit a claim for my procedure and specifically told the surgeon that no pre-certification was necessary. Then they refused to pay the claim because pre-certification was not obtained. And each time I call Cigna, Cigna gives me different information about why the claim was denied.
short and long term disability
Cigna is a nightmare when it comes to short or long term disability. Their medical team that evaluates the cases......are they certified doctors ?
My coverage was okay until I had a problem. I was bitten by a tick in my backyard. It took doctors forever to diagnose me with Lyme disease. I was put on IV antibiotics and was improving from what is largely considered to be a very debilitating and potentially fatal illness. Cigna cut me off of my IV, despite my doctor's insistence. Bacteria are feeding on my brain tissue, causing me to forget how to do basic things, like how to use the break pedal on my car. Yet, Cigna insists that antibiotics for a bacterial infection are "experimental."
I cannot even explain my frustration with trying to get my son speech therapy. My doctor has been so patient with them as to send and resend any paperwork for 3 months. When I call them back to see what else they need, they act like they haven't seen any paperwork and different representatives all have different answers.
My daughter needs an MRI on her shoulder, but Cigna refuses to cover it. I see her crying in pain . The pain pills don't help any more.
