Terrible Customer ServiceOct 11 2012
American General was wonderful when they were courting me to buy their product. I recently have had issues with changing my automatic payments. I have learned a big lesson about their customer service. It is terrible. When you call with an issue with American General there is no way to talk with the same person each time you call, so every time you call you get a different person who is unfamiliar with your case. They assigned me a case number and I thought that meant they were taking these problems seriously but no. A case number means nothing. You cannot talk with a manager and you cannot get anyone who really can give you an accurate answer. I have made twelve calls to have an issue resolved and still am no further to a solution. What I find really frustrating is that no one will take responsibility to get this solved and I now find myself at the mercy of an incompetent staff. I suspect this is outsourced since everyone speaks with the same foreign accent. I just hate to think what will happen when I have to make a claim.
