In the next few years the company made huge profits and any new ventures of the company were opened. American Family Jingle was copyrighted on July 9, and a few years later in 1975 commercial lines were introduced. It soon became the fifth largest mutual auto insurer. In the year 1986 a new motto was introduced of the company, of strong growing and friendly. In the year 2002 the American family celebrated its 75th anniversary.

I paid my premiums for years, and when it came time for a claim, I was refused. I spent hours upon hours on the phone and wrote letters before my claim was paid.

I recently used the American Family road service cause my car would not start. I called the 800 number and they dispatched a service from Utah, the next state over. I waited for over an hour and when the service provider arrived he came with a pickup truck, not a tow truck. Well he proceeded to hook up my battery from his truck. With everything connected I turned the key to start my car and looking through the windshield I noticed the alternator was smoking. He told me that the alternator was bad. He said it was my fault, but all I did was drive and park my car. I called the company and a big investigation issued. I'm still without a car while they decide who is at fault.

My AmFam agent has been a great resource, taking the time to explain complex coverages to me, and I don't even have a lot of insurance - home and auto only. They're very involved in the community. I've tried others but AmFam is still the best. Even a home claim I submitted made no difference in my premiums.

American Family is one of the best insurance companies in the business. Despite the fact that I have had to file more than one claim in the past couple of years, the claims handling has always been excellent. I can't even imagine signing on with another insurance carrier; AmFam is super fast when it comes to processing my claims. Of course, I am never happy about having to file a claim in the first place, but American Family makes it so that I am not anxious about doing so. The amount of time the company takes with me is one of the big benefits: they talk me through the process and aren't condescending when doing so. Fast response rates, incredible customer service and an overall friendly approach, It's a nice change from other insurance companies I've dealt with in the past. My sisters changed companies and went with AmFam after I told them about the service and they have been satisfied ever since.


Great until you have to make a claim

It's true that American Family is great until you have a claim. I wrecked my vehicle and my husband reported the accident within the hour. The adjuster was at the shop where the vehicle was towed to the day of the accident. They decided there was enough damage to total the vehicle. They were great to replace our car seat, to get us a rental vehicle the same day, and to communicate with us on a consistent basis. They ensured us thoroughly that they would immediately send all the necessary paperwork to get our GAP insurance. My husband even checked up with the adjuster to make sure everything was being completed. We were satisfied with everything they had done, until we got a letter from our bank. American Family had made a payment. They deducted around $250 from their payment because the interior of the van was a little dusty. We also discovered that they never sent the paperwork to our GAP insurance like they ensured us they would, and that they valued our vehicle for less than it was actually worth.

I don't know if It's the company or just my agent, but American Family has me as a customer for life! I had a little incident and needed to have my car towed. I had no cash on me, and my credit card and checkbook was at home, but I had towing coverage on my policy. I called my agent, he called a tow company for me, and even drove to where I was broken down to wait with me. When the driver finally showed 90 minutes later, he said they couldn't bill the company and since I couldn't pay on the spot I was out of luck. My agent pulled out his checkbook and paid for it himself, and the company reimbursed him. On the way to my house, the tow driver said he had been in business for over 20 years and had never had an agent show up at the scene before.

I only had my vehicle for 2 weeks. When I got the coverage before leaving the dealership, I told the guy on the phone that I do not have money for down payment on premium. He said,"Just give me your routing # and you won't have to worry about the premium payment this month." On the 16th, I called to give a routing # for my account so they can get my monthly payments. I discovered that my policy had been canceled. So the agent set it up again for me. All this time on the phone with the agent not one thing was mentioned about money going to be withdrawn from my account a few days later. Needless to say they messed up my banking account. When I called back to let them know my car had been taken back because the dealership could not get me financed. The lady said,"Do you want me to take and cancel your policy all the way back to the beginning so you won't have to pay anything." I said,"That would be great!!" Now a month later they are trying to say I owe them money.
