Refuse to pay
My wife was using our vehicle to pull our trailer which was insured by american Family. The trailer comes loose from the vehicle and hits another vehicle. American Family refuses to pay and then tells us our household insurance covers it .
I have been with American since 1979. Never had a claim, but now we had a car that started on fire due to electrical problems. If you look on Kelly Blue Book that car is worth $11,200 for dealer value and $9,200 private party. They are going to give him $8,350? When we asked for the new tires back that were only two weeks old, they told us we could not have them, even though we were told that he could have what ever he wanted out of the car after they looked over to determine the cause of the fire. Finally the guy did say we could have the tires back, but we would have to get a different set, put them back onto the rims and make sure that the tires are rotated and balanced? WHY?
The Best Agent
My agent was the most compassionate lady I have ever met and so are her staff. If I ever have a problem or question, they always answer without making me feel like I asked a dumb question and I always get an answer the same day. I've had two claims and they were handled quickly and fairly - absolutely no hassles. I will never change insurance companies.
We lost our home to a flood caused by a newly purchased water line. American Family said it was covered. They would rebuild our home. NOT. After hiring a contractor that gave a quote to American Family, American Family said we could use that contractor. Our home was about 50% rebuilt. American Family then denied the claim and would not pay the contractor. They would not pay what was covered and promised. Left us holding the bag. The contractor foreclosed on the home to get paid.
After reading some of the reviews on this site, it had become apparent to me that there is some confusion on certain coverage. It is very important that everyone sits down with their agent once a year to review their coverage and they understand EXACTLY what is endorsed and what is not.
I recently switched my coverage from another company to save some money. What I ended up getting was that...and a bag of chips! I had a need for my emergency roadside assistance. I called my agent and she got me in touch with that department, and they sent a tow truck out. I got follow up calls from both the customer service person and my agent making sure everything was OK. I was so impressed. I didn't have to pay a penny out of pocket, and this was a situation where I feel like my money has been well spent. Thanks AMFAM!
won't PAY MY CLAIM ON A TECHNICALITY
We have a hot water leak under our kitchen that resulted from an ice storm two years ago (which we filed a claim for.) This leak is in an invisible, inaccessible portion of our crawl space, and there was no way to notice it until it had already caused major problems.
Dropped a Recent Widow
My husband had the relationship with the agent. They had asked him to fix a few things with our home. My husband was killed in an auto accident before he could take care of these things. As a grieving widow, trying to console our children, I didn't know about these items to be fixed. You would have thought the agent would contact me and say due to your circumstances we will give you a month extension or something of that nature. No, they dropped me! They added more anguish and despair to my life when I had to scramble to find a new agent which he is a God send!! Worst customer service I have ever had!
A policy holder ran into the corner of our rental house knocking it off it`s foundation, springing the new front door and all the seven windows ruining siding. The whole front of the house is now cockeyed and will have to be torn off. The police made a report. We have made many call... most of which have not been returned. Our contractors didn't have their calls returned until WE called AMI and demanded to know why. The estimates are a little over $7,000 and one for a little over $4,000. AMI called and said since it was car to house and not car to car, they wouldn`t pay to fix it back like it was as it is an older home and they didn`t want to pay for new materials!! They just sent us a check for $2,536. Which half of our porch do we fix?
I can only say that being with American Family Insurance for 7 plus years you would think they would treat you like FAMILY. We have NO home claims, my husband and I have NO tickets regarding auto. Our teens within a couple of years had 3 speeding among both. Life does bite you in the shorts with teens I can understand that. Even our straight A son good grades sped. our son is on his own now so he is not on our insurance anymore and older and wiser. At any rate not too bad of a record on all our parts and also considering we gave American Family Insurance Thousands of dollars over so long for our protection and don't file claims. I guess you'd say We are an average family...some financial difficulties like some Americans are experiencing that hurt our score, so this insurance company will smack you down for that. Your credit is low therefore lets kick them when they are down and raise their rates. What a great idea forget looking at the entire picture. Lets kick'em in the teeth even though they didn't file claims. Oh let me mention after a speeding ticket from my son they wanted to drop us! after 6 years! You know when you get a rock chip too that spells trouble too. You should fear using this company when life bites you in the rear end! really they want your money timely that's foreclosure. But my goodness you are damned if you turn around and use their services. our american family homeowners insurance was JUST hiked up so high It's unbelievable! NO home claims EVER, but it went up over $500. Just an awful experience.
