Low-Ball Estimate After FireJan 11 2013
While we were on vacation, our home caught fire. I received a call from a neighbor. I was very upset. We did everything we were supposed to. We contacted our agent, called Allstate, and cut our vacation short. We stayed in a hotel at first. It took over three weeks before we could arrange for a rental and the adjuster agreed to the lease terms. We were out of pocket over $7,000 for the hotel bills. We moved into the rental with whatever clothes we had from the trip. We had no furniture or anything else. The first check that we got was for $10,000 in living expense. I came 8 weeks after the fire and covered the hotel bill we paid weeks ago. We got 3 different quotes for the reconstruction. The lowest was $649,000. The first offer the adjuster made was for $290,000.
