Cheap Doesn't Cover Anything

If you think for one second that Aetna will pay claims, you are sadly mistaken. Go ahead and pay the cheap premiums. Go ahead and think you're covered when you're not. Aetna will play games with words, exploit fine print and petty excuses to DENY every penny of your rightful claims.

Covered $1,600 of My $30,000 In Bills

II enrolled in Aetna's, SRC $10,000 Maximum Plan for which I pay $120.00 per month for medical coverage. My enrollment indicated that I would have medical coverage up to $10,000 per calendar year in addition to whatever co pays and deductibles were necessary. I had out patient surgery for a detached retina. Aetna only paid $1,000 for out-patient medical coverage. The bills totaled $20,000. Then I was rushed to the ER with acute kidney pain which turned out to be 6mm kidney stone. The Hospital bill was $8,000 for which Aetna only paid $600. Since my insurance plan only pays up to $1,000 for outpatient surgery I was forced to pass the stone on my own.

They systematically denied my claims. Their excuse was that COBRA did not update my election although I made a payment. Each time I called, they told me they resend the claim to reprocess.

Since 1998, my coverage has been getting worse and my premiums are now higher! I currently pay $1,456/month for a family of 4. They have changed my coverage, so now a flu shot is not even covered! My son was diagnosed with diabetes at age 4. Now they no longer will cover his insulin pump!

I have serious back issues. My doctor has wanted me to get an MRI. I kept putting it off due to the cost of this insurance and my deductible. I have severe pain and was denied an MRI. What the heck do we have insurance for?

Doubled My Premium

They increased my premium almost double stating that I had pre-existing conditions and ones relating to organs that I don't HAVE! When I called them, they told me that it was because I had the potential to develop the conditions. They also said that birth control medication and UTI's are part of the reason that it has increased. Now I have called and checked everywhere and I am pretty sure that they can NOT increase premiums for birth control medication. They are absurd and not helpful one bit. Their customer service reps are rude and not helpful, bouncing you around and placing you on hold for 45 mins!

Tests Not Covered By Full Coverage??

Aetna says that we have full coverage for my wife's pregnancy, but now we are being billed for ultrasounds. How is that full coverage? The worst is that you get totally different answers when you call to find out what is going on. This last lady said that ultrasounds are not part of a standard pregnancy. We also keep getting billed by our doctor for random stuff and Aetna won't help at all while we get nickled and dimed to death.

Sending My Records To My Dad

Get a policy only if you enjoy spending entire afternoons on the phone being juggled from representative to representative trying to correct the problem of why YOUR medical and billing forms are being sent to YOUR DAD. That's not only a huge annoyance but a HUGE breach of confidentiality! And they treated it like no big deal, and something that each representative said "wasn't their department" and transferred me.
