21st Century Insurance Story
The founder of 21st Century Insurance was Louis W.Foster, who founded the company in the year 1958, with the help of his experience of 20 years as an independent agent. An inter-insurance exchange is quite similar to a cooperative, where most of the policyholders try to insure the losses of the other policyholders. It was in the year 1968, a decision was made to convert the inter insurance exchange to the stock. It was the federal government who had minimized the tax for the advantages, and then the California Department of Insurance raised its capital and stock requirements. It was one of the most unique annals in the business of California. The profits that resulted on the use of this exchange were considered for measuring the amount of equity of the policy holders, where were entitled to the new company.$2 million were written on behalf of the company, in the year 1969, and $ 5 million was reached in the year 1972, and then $10 million in the year 1975.The company soon grew, and in a few years the company moved to Century City, in order to accommodate the ever increasing staff and number of policies. This was in the year 1980 that the company moved to its current headquarters, in Woodland hills. 21st Century Insurance has always seen its rapid growth, and expanded to many areas such as Arizonia, Washington, Georgia, Pennsylvania.Today the company is said to be employing more than 2500 employees and occupies a 11 storey headquarters building in Woodland Hills. The company also has 14 service offices, along with 9 drive in claim centers and 5 vehicle inspection centers.

Twice As Expensive
Every year 21st Century kept raising my rates while advertising that they are cheaper than Geico and Progressive. Turns out they are twice the price in every quote and their commercials are false!
Poor Customer Service
Based on their service in just processing my payment, they will not represent you AT ALL and do not understand the word "customer." I also know people who were hit by 21st Century drivers, in that aftermath 21st Century did everything possible to delay and make it a nightmare every step of the way and tried to deny any payment multiple times even though their driver was determined to be at-fault. So if you want to pay *slightly* less in insurance to just throw your money down a well knowing the company will DO NOTHING FOR YOU should you actually need coverage, then this is the company for you!
Not What They Used To Be
21st Century was a great company in the beginning, but they've clearly become nothing more the a proxy for Farmers, who I dumped when I went with 21st Century years ago. They dropped my policy with no notification. I was late with my payment, but well within the time frame as indicated in their correspondence for cancellation. What my issue with them is they did not notify me of the cancellation of the policy. I made the assumption I was covered and wasn't. Was I at fault. Yes, for being late, but they didn't bother to let me know.
$50 Cancellation Fee
They charge $50.00 for cancelling their insurance which I was very surprised since other insurance companies don't. They need to let their customer know about their fee before they let customers sign on.
Bait and Switch
They will quote you a lower price to get you in then raise it. They ask for too much info besides normal info.
$50 Cancellation Policy Fee
If you cancel your policy or don't renew with them, they charge you $50. I had been with them many years and had no claims during that time.
Cancelled On And Not Told
I needed to reschedule payment. We were able to, but their computer did not regenerate the payment and therefore it kicked us out of their system. So we had to pay another down payment and start all over. Their system kicked us out again later without us knowing it. I ended up driving all the way out of town and back (6 hours) without I ever knowing until I just so happened to have called 21 Century and they told me that I had been cancelled almost a month ago! Had a waited 1 more day, I would have had a hell of a hard time getting car insurance with another company and I would have had to pay extra. We had the understanding that 21st Century's computers cancelled our policy because we added a new credit card for automated service and the Rep. forgot to regenerate the system.
Doubled My Rates
I had insurance with them for 12 years and never filed a claim. After 12 years I was involved in a minor accident with no damage and no injuries. I told the adjuster that there was no damage to either car, but she just said "their claim is so small, you don't have to concern yourself." When my insurance came up for renewal, my premium was almost doubled. When I complained, I got different stories, ridiculous excuses, but basically was told too bad. They told me that I was still getting a loyalty discount.
They gave me a great quote! I signed up for automatic payments. They never took my payment out of my checking account. All of a sudden, I got a cancellation notice. I've accidentally missed insurance payments before, and I was given some time to make up the payment and keep my insurance in force. Not 21st! They just up and cancelled me. When I called to reinstate my insurance, they wouldn't let me. Even though it had only been a couple of days since I was cancelled. They said I would have to get another quote. Well, I got another quote, and it was 3 times my original payment.
Changed My Quote On Me
I called and got a quote of $260/6 months of full coverage insurance. I had the same quote emailed to me. When I called him back to sign up at this price, he told me a huge lie about how the quote I received in writing was for liability only and that full coverage would cost $471/6 months.
