21st Century Insurance Story
The founder of 21st Century Insurance was Louis W.Foster, who founded the company in the year 1958, with the help of his experience of 20 years as an independent agent. An inter-insurance exchange is quite similar to a cooperative, where most of the policyholders try to insure the losses of the other policyholders. It was in the year 1968, a decision was made to convert the inter insurance exchange to the stock. It was the federal government who had minimized the tax for the advantages, and then the California Department of Insurance raised its capital and stock requirements. It was one of the most unique annals in the business of California. The profits that resulted on the use of this exchange were considered for measuring the amount of equity of the policy holders, where were entitled to the new company.$2 million were written on behalf of the company, in the year 1969, and $ 5 million was reached in the year 1972, and then $10 million in the year 1975.The company soon grew, and in a few years the company moved to Century City, in order to accommodate the ever increasing staff and number of policies. This was in the year 1980 that the company moved to its current headquarters, in Woodland hills. 21st Century Insurance has always seen its rapid growth, and expanded to many areas such as Arizonia, Washington, Georgia, Pennsylvania.Today the company is said to be employing more than 2500 employees and occupies a 11 storey headquarters building in Woodland Hills. The company also has 14 service offices, along with 9 drive in claim centers and 5 vehicle inspection centers.

Didn't Pay For Accident, Increasing Rates
I'm a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. Last month, I was given orders to participate in a search and rescue mission. When I was loading my boat onto my trailer, I passed out from heat exhaustion and dehydration. During all of this, my truck and the boat trailer struck a nearby car. No one was injured. I just discovered that this accident is listed on my driver record and is being used to increase my auto insurance premiums. I paid for all of the repairs myself, out of my own pocket, so I don't see how 21st Insurance lost any money and why they should be charging me more.
Raised My Rates By 55%
In all of the years that i have been with 21st, I have not had any accidents. Recently, I got a letter in the mail letting me know that based on my zip code 21st is raising my rates. I got my bill and its up 55%!!
No Help After Home Invasion
A year ago, I experienced a home invasion. The perp got $18,000 worth of items. 21st Century would not pay me because I had no proof of ownership for all of those items. They only offered to pay for the door (~ $500) with a $1000 deductible. We caught the guy! He spent 90 days in jail after he admitted taking everything. $2500 worth of my belongings were recovered. He has to make $10,000 in restitution and 21st Century will not help me at all with anything.
Outstanding Service On A Totalled Vehicle
The service we recieved was excellent! Our son drove over a culvert and although the outside of the car looked OK with just some minor damage, the undercarriage totaled the car. We got the appraisal, the written findings, and the completed claim within 1 week.
Get It In Writing
They want to close your claim for as little as possible, as quickly as possible. No proper investigation, only facts are what you tell them. You then go return the rental and find out that the rep, never followed through on her promises and you are responsible for extra costs. I had been able find the e-mail stating that rental was NOW covered until policy limits and sent it to head of rental company.
They sent me a letter that my card was declined and that I was being charged $10 as a result. I called and said that I have no idea why this happened as 21st Century was taking money out of this account for 2 years and nothing ever happened to my card! They refused to waive it and said I have to go to the bank to request a letter from them that I had money in the account.
I was in an indoor parking garage. My car got totaled on the side from someone who hit me and ran. I called 21st Century the service was outstanding. Their help point repair facility here in town could not get to my repair for 2 weeks so the lady said there was another one 40 miles away in Grand Rapids. I contacted that repair facility and they transferred the repair claim from the first facility to there's. They had even scheduled a Enterprise car rental in my town. They contacted Enterprise for me and transferred everything for me. I have broadened coverage, so I don't have to pay a deductible since I was not 50% or more at fault. The claims adjuster was very swift with getting everything done and my rental car waiting for me at the repair facility 40 miles away from me. I basically had to do nothing, but make one call to the call center to report the claim and one call to the second repair facility and they all worked together so it was very easy.
Cancelled For Non-Payment, On Auto-Pay
A couple months ago I got a notice in the mail that 21st Century had cancelled my home owner's insurance policy for non-payment. I explained that my payment is set up as a monthly auto bill pay online, so I couldn't understand why it was not processed properly. It has been set up this way for quite some time. 21st Century gave some vague explanation as to how the system didn't work properly on their end. However, in order to renew my policy, as they had fully cancelled it, I was going to have to pay a higher premium.
Constant Rate Increases
I have gotten nothing but increase rates and premiums from this company. I do have somethings on my record from several years ago, but haven't been involved in any accidents or had any tickets. I use the automatic withdraw from my checking account so my payments are never late. Yet every six months my rates go up. I understand that there are somethings such as the area that are out of their hands but why are my premiums going up by at least 10 dollars every six months?
Poor Customer Support
The wait time to talk to someone is sooo long and the agents are so rude. I don't know much about insurance which is why I call them for help and to explain my coverage to me but they talk to you like you're an idiot. The sales agents butter you up and once they take your payment they stop answering your calls and act like you're no body to them.
