21st Century Insurance Story
The founder of 21st Century Insurance was Louis W.Foster, who founded the company in the year 1958, with the help of his experience of 20 years as an independent agent. An inter-insurance exchange is quite similar to a cooperative, where most of the policyholders try to insure the losses of the other policyholders. It was in the year 1968, a decision was made to convert the inter insurance exchange to the stock. It was the federal government who had minimized the tax for the advantages, and then the California Department of Insurance raised its capital and stock requirements. It was one of the most unique annals in the business of California. The profits that resulted on the use of this exchange were considered for measuring the amount of equity of the policy holders, where were entitled to the new company.$2 million were written on behalf of the company, in the year 1969, and $ 5 million was reached in the year 1972, and then $10 million in the year 1975.The company soon grew, and in a few years the company moved to Century City, in order to accommodate the ever increasing staff and number of policies. This was in the year 1980 that the company moved to its current headquarters, in Woodland hills. 21st Century Insurance has always seen its rapid growth, and expanded to many areas such as Arizonia, Washington, Georgia, Pennsylvania.Today the company is said to be employing more than 2500 employees and occupies a 11 storey headquarters building in Woodland Hills. The company also has 14 service offices, along with 9 drive in claim centers and 5 vehicle inspection centers.

It was the 1996, that 21 st Century played a major role as a sponsor in order to create Los Angeles Police Academy Magnet School Program. 21st Century Insurance has also joined hands with California Missions Foundation, in order to increase awareness. Low Premiums

You want to really enjoy low, low car insurance premiums -- 21st Century insurance is the way to go. While other insurance companies promise low rates, Before selecting 21st Century I choose another company that gave me a good initial rate, one lower than that 21st Century offered. So foolishly, I choose that company over 21st Century. Trust me - that won't happen again. Six months down the road I got an insurance premium price hike that blew my mind away. I dropped the company and signed on with 21st Century insurance. Good thing I did too.

I switched to 21st Century. I was suppose to be saving some money, but since I have had 21st for only 1 month and 3 weeks, they have changed my premium 4 times. It's gone up by $150. Customer Service is very bad.

Terrible Customer Service and Follow Up

My husband's truck was hit by an uninsured motorist. At the time of the accident, the motorist gave the police insurance information, but it was false information. She called our insurance company, 21st Century and arranged to pay them back the money to fix the truck. We wanted her to pay us cash out of her own pocket. We were assured by 21st Century that this would not show as an accident on our record. The driver never paid a penny. Nobody at 21st Century even bothered to go after her.

My car was hit in a parking lot by a 21st Century insured driver. I wasn't in it, and the gentleman was nice enough to come find me. It has been 3 weeks and the car still has not been fixed due to the stupidity of the adjuster. She send me a letter with no estimate attached! She also kept making excuses as to why she never returned my calls.

I was told I drove an additional 40,000 miles this year which is magical as I am a housewife and everything I need (doctor, grocery, etc) is exactly three blocks away making it, at the very maximum, 3,000 miles a year. I can go outside and take a picture of my odometer.

I am an auto insurance broker and none of my companies can compare with 21st Century rates. When I have dealt with anyone from 21st Century, they have always been competent and courteous. Claims were handled in a timely fashion and usually paid more than expected. A great company for any mature good driver

Poor Claims Process Practices

My husband was hit by an insured 21st Century driver at a 4 way stop sign. He was more than halfway through the stop when 2004 Cadillac driven by the 84 yr old went through the stop sign and hit the rear fender above the passenger side's tire. No one was hurt. The police were called. As no one was hurt an incident report was filed, not a police report. There is a difference which I did not know until now. The claim was denied based on their driver's word who said it was my husband's fault and there was no 3rd party witness. This was denied before any adjuster came to see the damage to the car. Incident report clearly states she failed to stop and went through the stop sign. I have since located a 3rd party who saw the accident. Now I have to write a letter requesting they review the claim. I have had to do all the leg work.

My 6 month premium was over $2000. I was also a victim of rising premiums when my wife and I had no claims or tickets.

Long Fight

A driver 50+ feet ahead of us in the far left lane suddenly swerved across all three lanes onto the right shoulder, spun out, came back across the right lane and t-boned us in the rear passenger door. Our SUV rolled 4 times before coming to rest on It's roof and facing the wrong way on the freeway. I was 13 weeks pregnant. Our injuries were minor and my pregnancy was not affected. The Kia was totaled. We have AllState insurance. The other driver has 21st Century. The accident report put the other driver fully at fault and cited him for 2 traffic violations. 21st Century decided that my husband was 50% liable for the accident and therefore they weren't going to pay anything! They said that he was speeding. The claims adjuster also argued liability with me, as the other driver kept changing his story. They finally conceded the liability issue and agreed to settle. We finally received the settlement offer more than 7 months after the accident. After paying the medical bills, we are left with a small amount of money considering what we went through.
