Madison, Wis. (Oct. 4, 2002) – For the fifth consecutive year, InformationWeek magazine has named American Family Insurance one of the most innovative users of information technology (IT).

The InformationWeek 500 list ranks U.S. companies with $1 billion or more in annual revenue on patterns of technical, operational and organizational innovation. This year, American Family is ranked No. 113.

“This is a great tribute to American Family,” says Dave Anderson, president and chief operating officer. “Our employees and agents continue to demonstrate a pioneering spirit when it comes to working with new technologies, and that has been a significant factor in our success.”

InformationWeek compiles its list based on a review of each company’s core areas of operations, including technology deployment, IT budget, technology strategies, e-business and customer-knowledge initiatives, and staff management. This year’s rankings appeared in the Sept. 23 issue.

Within the last year, American Family successfully implemented several new technologies, developed and introduced several new business applications and made continued improvements to its core computing technologies.

“These projects bring everyday meaning to what our IT strategy aims to accomplish: improving internal efficiencies so we can pass along the savings – be it time, money or both – to our customers,” says Byrne Chapman, vice president of information services.
