American Family diversity efforts lauded by Hispanic magazine

Madison, Wis. (April 12, 2002) – Hispanic magazine has named American Family Mutual Insurance one of the top U.S. companies that excel in creating business and job opportunities for Hispanic Americans. American Family has been on Hispanic magazine’s Corporate 100 list for the past few years.

The January-February 2002 issue of the magazine spotlighted the Top 20 companies on the corporate 100 list, including American Family. Companies are judged on recruitment efforts, diversity training, minority business initiatives, Spanish-language products and services, donations and many other criteria.

“It’s essential for American Family to appeal to the Hispanic community because it’s a fast growing market,” says Jeff Campos, emerging market development manager. “Our recruitment efforts for both Spanish-speaking and bilingual agents are extensive and are important for servicing the Hispanic community.”

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the Hispanic population increased by 57.9 percent, from 22.4 million in 1990 to 35.3 million in 2000. Efforts by American Family to accommodate this emerging population include developing written materials in Spanish and offering a Spanish version of its complete Internet site.

American Family also recognizes the importance of community involvement and participates in numerous community events. Hispanic magazine highlighted a few of these events including: U.S. Hispanic Leadership Conference, the Career Fair for Hispanic Alliance Career Enhancement (HACE), Hispanic Job Expos and the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Foundation.
