Filing a Car Insurance Claim
If you have been in an accident and your car needs repairs, you will need to make a collision claim and while being repaired you may need a rental car. Rental car coverage is a small addition to your policy that can make a huge difference when you need it.
When you make a claim, the insurance adjuster will send out an adjuster to inspect the vehicle damage and they will work up an estimate. Sometimes they will cut you a check right there or mail it to you a short time later.
If you are filing a claim with your insurance company, you may have a deductible that you have to meet before you can collect on a claim. If you have comprehensive coverage, it will cover things such as collisions with deer, vandalism, theft, and windshield repair and replacement.
Keep in mind that every time you file a claim on your policy, it can negatively affect your premium in the form of higher rates so only file a claim when absolutely necessary.
Some people have medical coverage added to their policy so if they and/or their passengers are injured in an accident, the policy will cover medical expense up the policy’s limit. Sometimes the car insurance company may try to get reimbursement from your health insurer while others may pay you directly regardless of whether you have health insurance or not.
