Van insurance retailer Swinton Commercial has highlighted the importance of road safety following the success of the Driving for Better Business initiative.
Dozens of Britain’s fleet owners are prioritising road safety for their drivers after the successful first year of the new commercial vehicle road safety campaign.
Driving for Better Business (DfBB), which is managed by Road Safe, is helping to improve ‘driving for work’ standards across the UK – reducing the number of crashes on our roads.
In the 12 months since launch, over 50 fleets have signed up to DfBB. These ‘Business Champions’ are being used to promote best practice on the roads and encourage other companies to adopt safe driving policies for their van drivers.
Phil Moss, Commercial Vehicle Manager at Swinton Commercial said: "We would encourage any initiative that promotes safer driving, and it is fantastic to see that fleet owners have responded so positively to the Driving for Better Business campaign. Not only does reducing the number of crashes make our roads safer, it lowers the number of van insurance claims made which in turn helps keep premiums down."
Van insurance retailer Swinton Commercial added that road safety campaigns like this can play an important part in keeping insurance premiums low for the commercial vehicle sector.
Official statistics from the Department for Transport show that 2,538 people were killed and 228,367 injured on Britain’s roads in 2008, with up to a third of the casualties estimated to be on work-related journeys.
