John D. Finnegan

John D. Finnegan joined The Chubb Corporation on December 1, 2002 as president and chief executive officer and was elected to the additional position of Chairman of the Board in December 2003. Founded in 1882, Chubb is one of the world’s leading property and casualty insurers, with 11,800 employees in more than 120 offices on five continents. Previously, Mr. Finnegan was president of General Motors Acceptance Corporation (GMAC), chairman of the GMAC board of directors and executive vice president of General Motors Corporation (GM). Mr. Finnegan was responsible for GMAC’s activities worldwide, including the company’s automobile finance, insurance, commercial finance and mortgage operations. He was also president and chairman of the GMAC Mortgage Group board of directors and a director of GMAC Insurance Operations.

Mr. Finnegan was born January 31, 1949 in Jersey City, NJ. He earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Princeton University in 1971, a law degree from Fordham Law School in 1975, and a M.B.A. from Rutgers University in 1976.

In 1976, Mr. Finnegan joined GMAC’s tax staff in New York. In 1977, he transferred to GM as an analyst in the company’s New York Treasurer’s Office. He was promoted in 1981 to director of International Banking. In 1985, he transferred to GMAC’s headquarters in Detroit as director of Strategic Planning.

Mr. Finnegan was promoted to chief financial officer of the GMAC Mortgage Corporation in 1986. The following year, he was promoted to assistant treasurer of GM’s Worldwide Benefits Compensation Staff in New York and was named assistant treasurer of International Operations in 1989. In 1992, he became executive vice president and chief financial officer of GMAC, adding the responsibilities of chairman and president of GMAC Mortgage Corporation in 1994. He was named vice president and treasurer of GM in New York in 1995 and was promoted to president of GMAC and vice president, group executive of General Motors in November 1997. In April 1999, while continuing as president of GMAC, he was promoted to chairman of GMAC and to executive vice president of General Motors. He also served as GM’s interim chief financial officer for several months during 2000.

Mr. Finnegan is a director of Merrill Lynch & Co., Inc. and a member of the Business Council, The Business Roundtable and the Financial Services Roundtable.

Thomas F. Motamed
Vice Chairman and Chief Operating Officer

Thomas F. Motamed is currently vice chairman and chief operating officer of The Chubb Corporation, and executive vice president and managing director of Chubb & Son, a division of Federal Insurance Company. He is responsible for both underwriting and worldwide field operations.

Mr. Motamed joined Chubb in 1977 as a claims trainee in the Long Island, New York, branch. He became a claims unit manager in 1978 and held that position until he was promoted to New York branch office manager in July 1980. Mr. Motamed became the Short Hills, New Jersey, litigation manager in the claims department in 1981 and the national claim audit manager in the Warren, New Jersey, office in 1983. He was promoted to the national claim administrator in 1984 and remained in that position until he became the claim manager in the Downtown New York office in 1986. In 1988, Mr. Motamed became the administrative manager in the Downtown New York office and in 1989 he was appointed the Long Island marketing manager. He was the Westchester, NewYork, branch manager from April 1990 until May 1993 when he became the Midtown New York branch manager. In January 1996, he became the Western Zone officer. Mr. Motamed assumed the position of executive vice president and chief operations officer in December 1997. He was elected vice chairman and chief operating officer in December 2002.

Mr. Motamed graduated from the Delaware Law School in 1975 with a Juris Doctor degree. He received a BA degree in biology from Adelphi University in 1971.

John J. Degnan
Vice Chairman and Chief Administrative Officer

John J. Degnan was promoted to the position of vice chairman and chief administrative officer of The Chubb Corporation in December 2002. He has held various titles since joining Chubb & Son in 1990 as a senior vice president and general counsel. A year later he became a managing director. In September 1996 he was elected president of The Chubb Corporation and also became president of Chubb & Son in 1998.

Mr. Degnan is responsible for the claim, general counsel, human resources, information technology and administrative services departments as well as Chubb’s communications, compliance and external affairs functions.

Currently Mr. Degnan is chairman of the American Institute for Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters and serves on the boards of The School of Risk Management, Insurance, and Actuarial Science, St. John’s University; Saint Vincent College; St. Benedict’s Preparatory School; Saint Barnabas Medical Center; RAND Institute for Civil Justice; and the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. He is also a member of the Supreme Court of New Jersey Disciplinary Oversight Committee.

After working as a law secretary for the late New Jersey Supreme Court Justice John Francis, Mr. Degnan joined the Newark, NJ, law firm of Clapp & Eisenberg. In 1974, he was appointed assistant counsel to Brendan T. Byrne, governor of New Jersey, becoming chief counsel to the governor in 1977. He was appointed attorney general of the state of New Jersey in 1978 and served until 1981 when he became a senior partner with Shanley & Fisher, specializing in administrative law.

Mr. Degnan graduated from Saint Vicent College magna cum laude in 1966 and from Harvard Law School with a Juris Doctor degree in 1969. He received honorary degrees from the College of St. Elizabeth in 1978 and from Seton Hall University in 1979.

Michael O’Reilly
Vice Chairman and Chief Financial Officer

Michael O’Reilly is currently vice chairman and chief financial officer of The Chubb Corporation, and executive vice president and managing director of Chubb & Son, a division of Federal Insurance Company. Mr. O’Reilly joined Chubb in 1969 as a securities analyst in the investment department where he has held various positions of responsibility until he assumed the position of chief investment officer in 1986. He assumed the position of interim chief financial officer in October 2002 and was elected vice chairman in December 2002. Mr. O’Reilly was named to his current position in September 2003.

Mr. O’Reilly graduated from New York University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree. He also received a MBA from Pace University. Mr. O’Reilly served in the United States Army from 1966 to 1967 (active duty) and in the Army Reserves from 1968 to 1971, retiring with the rank of Captain.

Robert C. Cox

Robert C. Cox is executive vice president, Chubb & Son, Inc., and chief operating officer of Chubb Specialty Insurance (CSI), the executive protection and professional liability underwriting division of the Chubb Group of Insurance Companies.

Mr. Cox began his Chubb career in 1981 as a financial institutions underwriter in the company’s San Francisco office. Paul J. Krump
Chief Operating Officer, Chubb Commercial Insurance

Paul J. Krump is chief operating officer, Chubb Commercial Insurance, and executive vice president and managing director, Chubb & Son, a division of Federal Insurance Company. Mr. Krump has been chief operating officer for Chubb Commercial Insurance since 2000.

Mr. Krump joined Chubb as an underwriting trainee in 1982. He held various commercial lines underwriting positions until 1986, when he became an executive protection and international underwriter in Dusseldorf, Germany. Mr. Krump returned to the U.S. in 1989 and held several positions in Chubb’s Department of Financial Institutions including Northern zone manager and U.S. underwriting manager. In 1994, he rejoined Chubb’s commercial lines underwriting and held several management positions.

Mr. Krump has a Bachelor of Arts degree in business administration from St. John’s University and attended the IMD executive education program in Lausanne, Switzerland, and the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill.

Andrew A. McElwee, Jr.
Chief Operating Officer, Chubb Personal Insurance

Andrew A. McElwee Jr. is chief operating officer, Chubb Personal Insurance, and executive vice president and managing director, Chubb & Son. He assumed his current responsibilities as chief operating officer of Chubb Personal Insurance in June 2002.

Mr. McElwee joined Chubb in 1997 as senior vice president, mergers and acquisitions. He served as the company’s international field operations manager from 2000-2002. Mr. McElwee was previously an executive vice president with Bellemead Development Corporation and prior to that he was employed by Morgan Stanley & Co. Incorporated and Dewey Ballantine LLP.

Mr. McElwee graduated magna cum laude from Davidson College in 1977 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He has a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Virginia School of Law.
