WEBSTER GROVES, Mo.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Jan. 29, 2004–Reliable Life Insurance Company today announced plans to move its home office from Webster Groves to the Citadel building located at 12115 Lackland Avenue in Maryland Heights, near the St. Louis airport. A move to the new headquarters is expected later this year.
The company made its decision to move based on a pressing need for additional office space and parking. In its current location, the company had expanded its building space once before in the 1960s. But, due to recent business growth, the company found it necessary to move into a larger facility. The Citadel has four floors and 132,000 square feet of space, plus parking to accommodate 460 cars, compared to the company’s current location of three floors, 80,000 square feet of space and parking for less than 150 cars.
Don M. Royster, Sr., president of Reliable Life, said: “Although the decision was for compelling business reasons, it was still difficult because the company has been an integral part of the Webster Groves community for more than 60 years. We’ve enjoyed a long association with the city and we deeply valued the relationship we’ve had with its citizens. We notified the city of our decision yesterday.”
Royster says the company signed a lease last week and must now move forward with plans to retrofit and prepare the Citadel building for occupancy probably in the fall or next winter. In the meantime the company will seek a buyer for its current headquarters building, which it owns, at 231 West Lockwood Avenue.
