Newport, RI – Amica Insurance is a first-time sponsor of the Schweppes Great Chowder Cook-Off on Saturday, June 3, and is using this opportunity to help raise funds for Child & Family Services of Newport (CFS).
Amica will have a Family Fun Area allowing children and those just young-at-heart to decorate clam shells at no cost. There will also be a putting area where people can attempt to putt a hole-in-one for just $1. For every dollar they donate, they will be entered into a give-away for two tickets to the 61st U.S. Women’s Open, to be played at the Newport Country Club on June 26-July 2. Amica is also a proud patron of this national event.
One hundred percent of funds raised through the putting activity will go to CFS. This organization provides child care, counseling, school-based services, and housing for children and teens. CFS is the most comprehensive social service provider in Newport County and one of the largest in Rhode Island.
The Chowder Cook-Off will open its gates earlier than its usual 11 a.m. starting time to allow kids associated with CFS, and their parents and teachers, to enter at no cost. They will be directed straight to the Amica Insurance Family Fun Area to decorate clam shells and participate in the putting activity. The CFS families who are coming are low income and would otherwise not be able to attend.
Viking Tours has generously offered to donate two trolleys to pick up approximately 60 children, parents, and teachers and transport them to the festival.
“We’re hoping these kids come out and have a great time. That’s what it’s all about,” explains Jennifer Swanson, Sr. Advertising and Public Relations Coordinator at Amica. “There’s no better way for us to give back to the communities where we live and work than by supporting our children. We’re hoping hundreds of people feel the same way and participate in the putting activity more than once and donate as much as they can to this worthwhile organization.”
