NEW YORK, September 24, 1998 – American International Group, Inc. (AIG) has announced that Martin J. Sullivan, AIG Senior Vice President, Foreign General Insurance and President of American International Underwriters (AIU), AIG’s international property-casualty insurance organization, has been elected AIG Executive Vice President, Foreign General Insurance. Mr. Sullivan will continue to serve as AIU President. In addition, Nicholas S. Tyler, who is currently AIU Senior Vice President, Finance, has been elected AIG Vice President, Foreign General Insurance.
Mr. Sullivan has been President of AIU since 1997 and AIG Senior Vice President since 1995. Prior to his current position, he served as President of AIU’s U.K./Ireland Division, and held a number of management positions in the U.K. and Ireland in his 27-year career with AIG, including Property Manager in Ireland and in the U.K., Manager of AIU’s London office, Regional Marketing Manager, and Chief Operating Officer of AIG Europe (UK) Limited.
Mr. Tyler joined AIG’s foreign internal audit staff in 1972, and served as regional comptroller for Africa and the Middle East and AIG’s Foreign Regional Comptroller in New York. He then held a number of AIU financial management positions of increasing responsibility, including AIU Vice President and Treasurer, before he was named AIU Senior Vice President, Technical Services in 1987. He served in that capacity until he assumed his current duties in 1992.
