Chicago, IL – May 7, 2001 – Acordia, Inc. has signed an agreement with eHealthinsurance, the leading distributor of health insurance for individuals, families and small businesses, to provide health insurance to Acordia’s clients through its website, www.acordia.com. This alliance with eHealthinsurance will allow Acordia to provide free quotations and side-by-side comparisons of health insurance plans, online applications and purchase of health insurance plans to individuals and small commercial companies with less than 50 employees.
“We are delighted to bring this additional resource to our producers as well as our clients who may wish to direct Internet access to this service,” said Charles L. Ruoff, senior vice president and chief marketing officer of Acordia.
According to Ruoff, Acordia plans to make this service available to associations and affinity groups, as well as offer this as a tool for its brokers who wish to access markets on behalf of clients who fit the eHealthinsurance profile. Acordia also has other programs currently under development that can be accessed via the Internet or with the aid of Acordia brokers in its 112 offices.
“This is part of our strategy to better serve the small commercial clients we call our Community Accounts business,” said Frank C. Witthun, president and chief executive officer of Acordia. “By working with eHealthinsurance, we are able to bring them a suite of services that allows access to comprehensive options once considered only deliverable to larger companies. With this partnership, Acordia’s suite of services to Community Accounts now includes property/casualty insurance, employee discount prescription drug programs, human resource administration and health insurance.”
“As the leader in health insurance distribution for individuals, families and small businesses, we are excited to include Acordia in our broker partner program,” said Gary Lauer, CEO of eHealthInsurance. “This relationship will enable Acordia’s network of partners to use our service to help individuals and small businesses in their networks to learn about, compare and purchase the health insurance plan that best meets their needs. In doing that, everyone wins, as new revenue streams are established for brokers and affiliates, the market reach of Acordia and eHealthInsurance is extended, and more people who need health insurance are able to find a plan that is accessible and affordable.”
