United American InsuranceI was a United American Insurance Agent in Ohio and I was dismayed at the negative comments regarding this now defunct company. Although I empathize with you, United American specifically states that their benefits are specified and not Major Medical or Group Insurance. Specified benefits pays up to a certain amount and this amount is outlined in each policy. Limitations and exclusions regarding your policy is also listed. Therefore, during the 30 day free look, it would have been wise for you to read your policy thoroughly. If it did not meet your specific needs, you had the right to cancel and receive a refund of premium. United American also offered Catastrophic Coverage which included Cancer Benefits on a first time diagnosis. The benefit levels ranged from $10,000 to $50,000 and the pay out was a one time lump sum, depending on the benefit level you purchased. With most people its easier to blame the Agent and the Insurance Company than assume responsibly for their own negligence.
