Unicare sucks!

I'm told Unicare no longer sells in Texas! Thank God! I had a carotid stent procedure done in December. It was 80% blocked and my cardiologist didn't think it was a good idea to wait too long. Getting an appointment with a cardiac surgeon was 6 or more weeks away! We checked with Unicare and told we didn't need pre-certification for the procedure---so went ahead with it. Claim was promptly denied! Unicare called it experimental and didn't pay one cent! They could have told me that they considered it experimental and even with 80% blockage I would have waited! They suck! I was their insured for quite awhile through my employer until the first of 2010! Unicare took the payment of premiums but always looked for and usually found a way not to cover anything!! Do yourself a favor and look for another insurance company!
