Keeping a high deductible plan for catastrophic care? - it's a catastrophe! So, after my spinal cord injury resulting in paralysis, after I left in patient rehab (still in a wheelchair), I had to wait 2 weeks to get 'approval' from Unicare to go to out patient rehab to learn to walk again. Finally came back with 'you get 12 PT/OT visits with your plan'. All I used was 12 visits. Cost $4,040. Unicare paid $240 of that. And this is after I had met my $5K deductible, my additional $3K max out of pocket costs. Tens of thousands of dollars later, I'm sill paying. I guess after $8K in, rather than pay anything, all bills that come in after that will be deemed as something 'over and above customary charges' and will not be paid.
