Antiquated Company - Poor Customer Service - Leaving State Farm after 22 years

I have been a customer of State Farm Auto Insurance for 22 years. In general we have been satisfied with the rates and customer service we have received. That is until the last several months. In the past when I have moved to a new city (Same State) I have been able to easily transfer to a new State Farm Agent. However, when I moved in November of last year from the San Jose area of California to Sacramento, the nightmare began. I went into a local Sate Farm agent's office and asked to transfer my policies to them, they said no problem. Huge problem. After five months of phone calls to their office, visits to their office, and calls to my former agent, my account is a mess. They managed to list me as living at two different addresses, remove my multi-line discount, remove my multi-car discount, and one vehicle has still not been transferred from the old agent. The customer has no control with State Farm. The agents are in total control. One agent cannot look at an account held under another agents name, making a transfer a nearly impossible process, if the original agent doesn't cooperate. In this case, my former agent didn't cooperate. The result....I have found a new insurance company. In the age of the internet, a system than is totally dependent on the agent, such as State Farm's is hopelessly antiquated. I have purchased a policy with better rates than State Farm, that also allows my to access my account 24/7 online, with complete control. If I want to make changes, etc. I don't have to call an agent, I just go online. I should have made the change long ago. State Farm needs to get with the times. Their local independent agents will eventually become as rare as travel agents are today. They are simply not necessary anymore.
