worst possible customer service!! I was told to get an estimate on a 2 week old Mercedes at to cheapest possible place. I was told that I "Probably wanted to go to the dealer because the car was TWO WEEKS old" it was OK just submit the difference. SAFECO will not pay because the repairs cost $150.00 more (only as a favor to me). NO CALLS BACK NOTHING! The repairs are $585.00 TOTAL and they will not pay!!
SAFECO IS CRAP CRAP CRAP!!!

Safeco's auto policy is quite vague regarding the use of original manufacturer parts verses aftermarket parts. Safeco will use all aftermarket parts on your vehicle, unless they do not fit properly. This not only sets you up for potential damages and safety, and will ultimately lower the value of your vehicle. Per spokesman "Teresa", "our policy does not state that we must repair your vehicle using all oem parts, meaning we do not have to repair your vehicle to the original condition and parts prior to the accident!" Buyers Beware-find a company that puts customers first, using all original manufacturer parts. NOT SAFECO WITH SAFECO!!!

after many years of never filing any claim other that a glass damage claim, my daughter had a minor collision which set off the air bags (approx $3,000). Safeco's position is that such a collision should not have caused the airbags to deploy, so there must have been a mechanical malfunction, which of course is NOT COVERED. they would pay for the broken windshield, but naturally my rates will increase by $500. per year for 5 years. let's see $3K+$2,500 out of pocket, they are scum, and prey.

Good rates, terrible service and worst claim response you could ever imagine. They are crooks. What they do to customers is criminal.

Customers,
be wary that your appraiser send you to a "Safeco approved" repair shop and that they show you an official company list. I was recommended by agent Wayne to go to Wicke Auto repairs in Saint Louis for a non-fault claim repair. Over the past two years I have incurred over $1000 additional out of pocket expenses, rentals, mechanical and body repairs, the inconvenience of being without my car for over three months cumulative, and my car is still not fixed properly. I have a trail of correspondence that is a story of poor customer relations, misrepresentation, and significant unforeseen out of pocket expense.
I have transferred my home policies to another insurer, my auto policy is next
I DO NOT RECOMMEND Safeco at all
Additional note: I work for a multinational corporate and it grieves me to see Safeco employees write giving 5 star reviews in this forum in order to improve this company's rating. The written content clearly has marketing spin, is very similar in each review, and do not illustrate specific claim scenarios whereas the bona fide reviews clearly set out the trauma these customers have been compelled to write about through abject frustration.
Consumer's Beware

Well if you think you have it covered, guess again. My truck was damaged when I ran over an object in the road thought to have been an animal and was charged as a collision and not comprehensive. My tire was damaged and needs to be replaced. The tire type had been discontinued and they want to replace it with an odd tread design and it does not match. They are not willing to pay for a whole set. So, if you see me going down the road with a limp, it is because Safeco is cheap. This was a small claim with a high deductible. Wonder what they would do if it were my house???? Probably give me a tarp....

They continually raised rates when others would have lowered it, rude customer service, and we had to fight for three weeks to get our money back when we canceled. Another company is saving us $800 a year, so when we cancelled they were rude and said we'd have the check in 5-7 days. 14 days passed and there was no check, so we called to complain. The story changed then, and they said they wouldn't send it until 20 days after the transaction was cleared (it was 19 days at that point). We talked to a manager which they weren't going to allow until we got loud with them, then we had to send proof of payment even though it was on their website for the exact date, they then said it was being sent that day and we'd have it in 3 days max. Another week passed with no check. On the 25th day we finally recieved our money. I looked online and they had waited 5 days before issuing the check. Customer Service can't get any worse than that. Thankfully we never had to file a claim with them.

A little more than 5 weeks ago, I switched my automobile insurance policy from Progressive to Safeco because Safeco initially offered me a cheaper premium.
I was paying $359 for a six month policy with Progressive, but after checking out the rates of other companies online, I decided to switch to Safeco because they quoted me a six month policy for $294. I truthfully and completely filled out the online application, disclosing the only blemish on my driving record, which was a speeding ticket (63 MPH in a 55 MPH zone) which I received 3 years ago in New Jersey.
I cancelled my policy with Progressive and started my new policy with Safeco on February 9, 2009. On February 17th, a little more than a week later, Safeco increased my premium by $305 to $599! This is more than double the price that they initially offered me! When I called them up to ask why my premium was being doubled, they told me that it was because of a moving violation which I failed to disclose on my application. When I asked them the specifics of the moving violation which I allegedly failed to disclosed to them, I found out it was the 3 year old speeding ticket which I had in fact told them about!
I protested this ridiculous “bait and switch” premium increase and asked them to restore my original premium quote, but they wouldn’t budge. They told me that I could simply wait until my policy renewal in August for the moving violation to come off of my record (moving violations remain on your insurance record for 3 years and 3 months) and my renewal premium would decrease. I told them that I would not pay any additional premiums, and I notified them that I would find another insurance company.
After doing some more research, I got a six month insurance premium quote from XXXXX for $319. After making sure that they were aware of my motor vehicle record, and that the premium quoted would not mysteriously increase after the start of my policy, On March 9th, I cancelled my automobile insurance policy with Safeco, and started my new policy with XXXXX. Even though it has been less than 2 weeks since I became a XXXXX customer, I have not yet had any problems or any premium increases from them.
I have one word of advice to anyone who is contemplating switching their automobile insurance company to Safeco based on a cheaper premium quote... DON’T!

Horror story - Safeco is/was my homeowners insurance company. We have never filed a claim before with any insurance company (homeowners/auto) - in December there was a major freeze in CO and our HVAC malfunctioned and turned-off. Needless to say pipes froze and then exploded upon warming up. We had just purchased the house and still aren't even living there yet. Anyways - we made our claim, dealt with great customer service folks but today we received our claim check to pay the contractors and what else did we get? Well, a notice that they are canceling our homeowners insurance due to the claim that we submitted. We are just in shock over this. Has anyone else had this issue with SafeCo? How is this legal?
