Mercury - Too Time & Paperwork

I was recently shopping for homeowners and auto insurance. Mercury was the lowest so I decided to go with them (even though from other people's bad experiences I was a little leery). First the agent emailed the homeowners application which I had to sign and fax back. (This is difficult for me because my printer/scanner is not working and I have to depend on someone else's printer and fax.)

Then she emailed the auto application. Unfortunately the agent didn't tell me I had to date my signature the same date as the application so it was refused. She was to email another, but I never got it. Then, she asked for proof of insurance which I had already emailed (a form from Progressive entitled Proof of Insurance). I emailed again, but she kept saying she didn't get it..."I have not recvd an insurance id card showing you currently have insurance so Mercury will waive the photos required to bind the physical damage coverage. You did tell me before that you have not been driving the car & therefore you have not had insurance on it. So if that is the case I can insure you for Liability & uninsured motorist only for now."

I only had theft because the car was locked up when I was living in NY. So I called 21st Century (really good insurance if you have a claim but usually more expensive) and got homeowners and auto within 15 minutes with no hassle, no paperwork. It was a little more than Mercury but it's not worth the aggravation to deal with Mercury. One can only imagine what they require if you have a claim. 21st also told me that there is a new law preventing them from charging more if you are presently uninsured or have bad credit. Progressive doesn't have any paperwork either. The agents at 21st sound like robots, but that is because they must follow a script for all the questions they have to ask (their calls are recorded).

When I cancelled both Mercury applications I got this email from the agent: "UNBELEIVABLE!" Yes, Mercury is unbelievable.
