After being rear-ended while stopped in traffic the day before Memorial day, I was told they had to verify the insured. Despite being provided the police report number etc. they insisted they had to speak to the driver - a 90-year old, also probably without transportation. They delayed until everybody left for the holiday, leaving me without a car for four days.

The "claims" personnel speak well but are as rude as a turd in the punchbowl.

I borrowed my vehicle to a friend(pickup), so she could pick up a bulky item. She was rear ended while stopped at a red light by an uninsured motorist. While they did pay for the necessary repairs, they dropped me for filing the claim when it came time to renew. This is illegal in Illinois, so I reported them to the state insurance bureau.

They then sent a renewal notice, apologizing, but the rates were DOUBLE what they were before. Needless to say, I went with another insurer.

Now they are running an national ad campaign stating they offer a no drop benefit. Give me break. It's illegal to do so in most states, and they may not drop you, but jack up your rates so you leave because of the cost. Beware. YOU CANNOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE.

My 79 year old Mother-in-law has been with Hartford for 40 + years and had one minor claim in 1990. Her husband passed away 2 years ago and Hartford decides to suddenly send an inspector out because of her 99 year old home. So, they send her a notice of cancellation due to a list of items. I call them and tell them every item will be taken care of and would they re-instate her policy? They said absolutely not! Why would they give a list of reasons and deny such a loyal customer of 40 + years? We fixed every problem that they say existed and also did a lot more improvements. I submitted before and after pictures and they still declined. So now she is with Travelers insurance with a better rate and more coverage. I guess there name should change from Hartford to Heartless insurance company. I would never suggest them for any insurance needs. True Story!!!

My mother in-law had a policy for 40 years and 1 small claim in 1990. They sent an inspector to her 99 year old home and reported issues on her home and that they weren't going to re-new. I called and told them, if we fixed all of the issues would they re-instate her policy? They said no? Why give a list of items for denial if you have made up your mind to not re-new anyways. We fixed all issues and actually went way beyond the repairs.Sent before and after pics back to them and they still denied her. She is 79 and just lost her husband 2 years ago. I can't believe a large company can just do what they did!! I hope this review at least keeps 1 or 2 people from getting their policies from such a heartless company. There new name should be the Heartless insurance company!! True story and Travelers insurance now has her policy. Cheaper rate and better coverage.

I purchased a USED vehicle [2001] in 2007, Upon advising this insurance company of my purchase, the correct odometer reading was given to the insurance representative..This company configures insurance rates per mileage driven in a 2 year period, adjusting their rates per policy holder accordingly. [as advised by the CSR I spoke with]

Imagine the unpleasant shock I received when I received their annual policy renewal notice this past week..it was for over $1,000.00!..I called the office and complained about the $400.00 increase..Upon investigating, they found that the mileage recorded in their system was only 77 miles, instead of 77,000 miles...In order for me to receive an amended bill, I must submit to them the original mileage when I purchased the vehicle in 2007..in other words, I have to jump through hoops because of their errors...I opted instead to go elsewhere..How many other people are they doing this to besides me?

I recently tried to sign up with Hartford, the quote given me on the net was really good until you get ready to sign with them. Then if you pay them up front for the first quote and want to cancel it takes you forever to get your money back. Also they claim that their cancellation dept is not licensed to return calls, ever hear of a company that can't return a call or needs to be licensed to talk on the phone? Also they have the comments all messed up, and state a bunch of untrue lies by customer service. I put both my husband and I on the application and the customer service rep wrote on their that I was cancelling because the rate they quoted did not have a second driver?? What?? Beware of miss leading info from their company.

While vacationing in San Diego backed into a column at the motel. Cost was $132 of which I had to pay $20. Next premium, they "doubled my payment". Needless to say, I doubled the speed to go back to my old insurance, American Family. Never again do I consider Hartford as good insurance.
