The name GEICO originated in 1936, when the business was founded by Leo Goodwin. GEICO insurance was originally developed to target mainly military and government personnel. Leo Goodwin began his insurance business with the belief that he could offer vehicle insurance at lower rates by marketing his business straight to prime customer groups. In order to offer the lowest possible rates, Goodwin managed to keep the company's operating costs low, thereby passing on the savings as up front discounts to policyholders. Today, GEICO still keeps their business costs low so that they can pass on discounts to their clientele.

Berkshire Hathaway took on GEICO as a subsidiary in 1996. Warren Buffet, head of Berkshire Hathaway, has become one of the nation's most successful investors. Fortune Magazine has named Berkshire Hathaway's property-casualty insurance operation the most admired in the United States for two years in a row.

Since the founding of GEICO in 1936, the company has served the United States Military as best as possible with many special programs. Military customers can get special rates, discount options and more with GEICO insurance while serving the country during wartime and peacetime. These special rates routinely bring in more customers for GEICO.

GEICO offers more than just vehicle insurance. Motorcycle, boat, home, apartment and mobile home insurance can be purchased though the company, as can personal umbrella protection.

GEICO Advertising and the GEICO Mascots
GEICO does their advertising in a variety of ways, including print, radio ads and television parody advertisements. Their print ads are comprised mainly of mail circulars. GEICO's famous catch-phrase is "fifteen minutes could save you fifteen percent or more on car insurance".

Some of the first GEICO insurance ads were animated and were of people doing crazy and dangerous things, like pressing a button that would result in a cannon firing at them. "We all do stupid things. Paying too much for car insurance shouldn't be one of them," was then heard via a voice-over. These commercials were short, and were aired by showing two commercials back-to-back but with different parodies.

GEICO became even more popular with the introduction of their reptilian mascot. The GEICO gecko is a talking Day Gecko that was created by The Martin Agency and first appeared in 1999 during the popular Screen Actors Guild strike. The strike prevented the use of live actors, so the Gecko ad was born. The first commercial has the gecko pleading for people to stop calling him instead of GEICO, insinuating that they are mistaking gecko for GEICO. Kelsey Grammar was the first to do the voice for the gecko. Steve Bassett, a creative director for the Martin Agency, says that in following ads they changed the voice so that the GEICO gecko had an unexpected Cockney accent. Again, the accent changed to sound more like a working-class person in an effort to make people feel closer to him while also "humanizing" him. Basset states that, "As computer animation got better and as we got to know the character better, we did a few things. We wanted to make him a little more guy-next-door. And he looks a lot more real than he's looked before".

GEICO continued to offer a variety of commercials and ads. One very popular theme revolved around misdirection. The public will be watching what they think is a commercial for a totally different product, and then suddenly it changes into what is actually a GEICO commercial. Energizer is another company famous for using misdirection in its ads. Fictional characters have been used, such as Speed Racer and Bill Duchess. Real people, such as Tony Little, have also appeared in GEICO commercials. Other commercials have been of a hair loss doctor who switched to GEICO and saved money, a show about a fish, and a fictional soap opera based on a couple breaking up with one another. A set of GEICO ads was also produced that involved a fake reality show named "Tiny House". In this show, "contestants" are forced to live in a half-scale house.

Parody ads became popular in the promotion of GEICO insurance. Fictional products such as tomato soda, long distance phone service, fast-food, and a reality television show were shown with the end slogan of "but it won't save you any money on car insurance." The commercial would then end with "Why haven't you called GEICO?" The Energizer Bunny first used fictional characters in their commercials starting in the late '80s, and GEICO's commercials are reminiscent of those.

Other ads would start with a character breaking some sort of bad news to someone else - for example, a pitcher being relieved by his baseball manager. They then offer the fact that they have good news, explaining that "I just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance by switching to GEICO!" The kicker of the commercial is that that news really doesn't help the other person. Some parodies included celebrities such as actor Sebastian Siegel. He played in one of the most watched "I've got good news" ads, a fictional soap opera parody for GEICO insurance.

Another GEICO commercial series features actor Jerry Lambert playing a stereotypical boring insurance agent. One commercial shows him reading to kids, who are sitting there looking bored, from a book of insurance fairy tales. Another one shows him reading an e-mail from a viewer who says it would be "the bomb," meaning it would be great, if the Gecko would dance the "The Robot." You then see the Gecko doing a graceful and smooth dance to a song called "Sweet World" by the band Comega Men. Afterwards, the camera cuts back to the insurance man trying to do the same dance, but with very stiff and awkward movements.

Many celebrities have been featured in the GEICO ads that have been aired over the years. Charo, Charlton Heston, Burt Bacharach, Little Richard, Don LaFontaine, Peter Graves, and Verne Troyer are some of those who talk about their GEICO stories and experiences.

The commercials then switched over to the Caveman Series. One of the first ones appeared to be a talking heads news interview, but instead were the cavemen. This series became increasingly popular over time, and it was also created by the Martin Agency. These ads feature Neanderthal-like cavemen in a modern day setting. The ad or commercial has the tagline "GEICO: So easy a caveman could do it," and then shows the cavemen being upset that they are still stereotyped as stupid and backwards. These ads show the cavemen as being active members of modern society, being smart and cultured among their peers. These GEICO commercials show them in various settings of everyday living, such as eating out, arriving at exclusive parties and seeing their therapists. The cavemen are seen as being a normal part of today's society yet still being stereotyped as dumb and backwards, and this is where the ads' humor lies. The cavemen try to defend themselves, unsuccessfully, and get increasingly annoyed.

These new GEICO ads became so popular a series of interactive websites were then created. GEICO's in-house creative team at Caveman's Crib wrote and produced the successful series. Subsequently, a TV series entitled Cavemen was born, and debuted on ABC Television in the fall of 2007.

That same year, GEICO started its own social networking website. My Great Rides was created specifically for motorcycle owners and was developed as a place to share stories, pictures and comments on bikes and lives. My Great Rides has proven to be another successful endeavor by GEICO.

GEICO insurance sponsors a car in the NASCAR Busch Series, Number 7. Number 7 is driven by Mike Wallace. A commercial was developed that shows a race team and a young boy who says he is a relative of Mike Wallace and that he is a better driver than Mike Wallace. In the commercial, the boy says, "When people see Mike Wallace and the GEICO Number 7 doing well, they'll think of saving a bunch of money on car insurance. But when they see me, they'll say, "There goes Lauren Wallace; the greatest thing to ever climb into a racecar."

These NASCAR commercials are produced in different format. One such format is an interview. An unseen narrator talks to the eager go-kart driver, saying, "What do you think of Mike Wallace?" The child answers, "Whatever, he's out there selling car insurance; I'm out there to win." The narrator then asks about the child's relation to Mike Wallace, to which he replies, "I didn't say I wouldn't go fishing with the man, all I'm saying is if he comes near me, I'll put him in the wall." The narrator responds to this remark with his own quip," You don't race in the Busch Series." The boy then answers, "Listen, go-kart track, grocery store, those remote controlled boats; when it comes to Mike Wallace the story ends with me putting him in the wall."

There are newer ads to this NASCAR GEICO insurance series where the boy refers to himself as "100 miles away and ready to strike," and also as "lightning in a bottle".

The ever-popular website YouTube also features GEICO ads. These videos show acts that seem to have no bearing on buying car insurance, such as a hallway mattress fight or a strange collection of expressions muttered by a webcam user (YouTube's Brandon Hardesty). An announcer narrates again in the background of these ads, telling the audience that "There may be better ways to spend 15 minutes online." This implies that instead of watching dumb videos, you could be getting a quote from GEICO insurance. These videos are similar to the "Stupid Things" advertisements. They are also aired back-to-back in sets of two.

TRS, which is the show The Real Scoop, was previewed in September of 2007.This series of ads was related to an E! True Hollywood Story-type show about fictional TV characters that were famous, such as Fred Flintstone, Cabbage Patch Kids and Jed Clampett. These characters claimed to be insured thru GEICO, featuring pretend interviews by pretend investigators.

GEICO Competition

There are many other insurance companies out there who are in competition with GEICO insurance. These major competitors include, but are not limited to, Allstate, Nationwide, Progressive, State Farm and USAA. Progressive can be aggressive in their advertisements, and many of GEICO's ads counter Progressive's claims of being able to quote their rates and several of their competitors' rates on their website.

GEICO History
Leo and Lillian Goodwin took a risk in the mid-1930's to create their company. While the Great Depression roared on, and thousands of people were struggling to survive, they founded one of the most respected and successful companies of their time. GEICO stands for Government Employees Insurance Company. Leo Goodwin began the company while he resided in Texas. His plan was to market his insurance to specific consumer groups, with the goal to keep his company's costs low. That way he could pass his savings on to his customers while still earning a profit. Goodwin was successful and GEICO started to become a popular company. In 1936, Goodwin opened a GEICO operation in Washington, D.C.

As an established bookkeeper, Lillian Goodwin worked side by side with her husband to start his company and became an active figure early on. She took care of all the company's accounting tasks as well as helping to underwrite policies, set insurance rates, issue policies to customers and advertise GEICO premium rates to target customers. Federal employees and top noncommissioned Military officers were the main targeted groups. The staff of GEICO totaled 12 people in 1936, although there were already 3,700 policies in force.

A family friend of the Goodwin's joined the company in 1948. Lorimar Davidson was an investment banker who joined GEICO insurance and helped the Goodwins find new investors when the original ones decided to move on to new opportunities. A new investor in the company was Benjamin Graham, who was a business professor at Columbia University in New York. He had Warren Buffett in his class at one point. In 1951 Buffett became part of the GEICO family.

The story goes that in the year of 1951 Buffett took a train ride to the state of Washington on a Saturday to learn about the GEICO Company. Unfortunately for him, the office was closed. But a working janitor directed him on where to find Davidson, who took it upon himself to describe the company and all of its advantages. From that one meeting, Buffett learned enough to make his first purchase of GEICO stock.

Davidson became Goodwin's successor when he officially retired in the year 1958. GEICO's new headquarters opened in Chevy Chase, Maryland, in 1959. Davidson became president of this particular branch while GEICO insurnace continued on successfully into its third decade of business.

As the '60's rolled on, GEICO insurance became more and more successful, fulfilling policyholders' needs left and right. In 1964, they passed the one million policyholder mark, and in 1965 insurance premiums reached a grand total of $150 million. In 1966, net earnings doubled to $13 million. GEICO started opening numerous sales and service offices to meet the needs of walk-in customers. Their very first drive-in claims office made its appearance in 1965.

The first half of the 1970s was a rough time for GEICO insurance. As the Goodwin's were in the midst of their retirement, Lillian died in 1970. The following year brought Leo Goodwin's death. As aggressive expansion of other insurance companies started becoming an issue in the mid-70's, loss reserves at GEICO started showing. The company went thru a difficult time for awhile.

GEICO pressed on even during those rough years. They continued to strengthen their underwriting and other company policies to keep up with their reputation as a fiscally sound corporation. In 1976, Warren Buffett purchased a second share of GEICO stock, reported to total 1 million shares in all. A chief investment officer joined the GEICO family in 1979. This was Lou Simpson.

In the 1980s prudent underwriting went on, and the expansion of the GEICO insurance company was slow but steady. 24-hour, 7 day a week and 365 days a year telephone service was introduced for claims, sales and service in 1981. GEICO's intent with this new feature was to prove their incredible emphasis on customer service.

A new chairman was introduced in 1993. Olza "Tony" Nicely became chairman, president and CEO of GEICO. He helped work to enlarge the customer base through a new and improved four-company plan. Increased advertising budgets also helped GEICO become better known and recognized throughout the nation.

Warren Buffett was impressed by the continuing success of this insurance company. So in 1995, his Berkshire Hathaway investment firm made a very large bid to obtain the remaining stock shares of GEICO. By 1996, GEICO was a subsidiary of a company that was one of the biggest and best in the nation.

Advertising became a very important aspect of GEICO insurance. Direct mail pieces were sent out and filled mailboxes around the country. Ads were seen everywhere, and the company's growth climbed even higher. The now-famous GEICO gecko was introduced in television ads in 2000 and has since been an advertising icon.

The International Insurance Society Hall of Fame inducted Leo Goodwin in 2001. Goodwin's ideas continue to help GEICO grow and develop even years after his passing.

2003 saw GEICO insurance surpass 5 million policyholders. Operations also opened in Tucson, Arizona, in December of that year. GEICO also opened a new center in Buffalo, New York, and company officials marked the opening with an official announcement.

As the Buffalo office was up and running thru 2004, another big announcement was made that summer. GEICO announced that they were reentering the New Jersey vehicle market. This made it into the local news, as well as the regional and national news. By December of 2004, GEICO had reached the 6 million mark in policyholders.

GEICO currently has over 21,500 associates of their company in 12 major locations around the country. They celebrate their success and their recent return to New Jersey. The founders of the company, Leo and Lillian Goodwin, would no doubt be very proud of the booming success that the company has become. The future of the company is still strong. Tony Nicely believes that as long as knowledgeable associates continue to be employed with the company, GEICO insurance will grow surely and steadily. He believes that GEICO's way of thinking can be summed up in three points: excellent coverage, low prices, and outstanding customer service.

More About GEICO
GEICO is a company based in the United States. GEICO is a personal lines automobile insurance company that stands for Government Employees Insurance Companies. The name may be a bit misleading as it was actually never a government agency. Instead, it was developed as a private firm originally thought up by the above-mentioned Leo and Lillian Goodwin to sell auto insurance straight to federal government employees and their families. GEICO assumed that these people would be more financially stable than the general public, therefore being less of a financial risk to their company. GEICO began to insure to the general public in the '70s after real-time access to driving records became available.

GEICO likes to deal with their policyholders more by telephone and via the Internet. This way it frees up capital that would have to be spent on employing agents throughout the field. However, GEICO does offer field agents and offices, mostly near military bases, and these agents are known as GFR's, or GEICO Field Representatives.

Currently, GEICO insurance provides coverage for 10 million vehicles owned by 7 million policyholders. They are a wholly-owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway.

GEICO's advertising strategy is known for its sheer volume and that it focuses mainly on their mascots, most notably the gecko and the cavemen. The gecko's accent was changed a few times, more recently to reflect on the working class, in an effort to "humanize" him and make him "more accessible and someone you enjoy listening to, some bloke you want to get to know." GEICO also used parody ads, featuring Japanese idol fan clubs, upcoming Saturday morning cartoons that were only fictional, and senator election campaign ads. The ending always goes, "But it won't save you money on car insurance!" After that slogan is heard, the commercial ends with "Why haven't you called GEICO?" GEICO is a headstrong company that has proved its worthiness in the amount of years it has been around and the millions of policyholders who are satisfied.

can save you 15% is B.S.

Since 2007 every 6 months my rates go up. It's either because of hurricanes (still paying to a fund), zip code, or a "high ratio of uninsured motorist in FL". My most favorite, "you lost your new car discount", but yet when I called back about a new rate for a new 2012, it went up another $19 and was told "well, sir, it's a new card", R U freakn kidding me?! I'm done with them, period!

Agents rude and unethical

Avoid Geico like the plague. We had a claim, and they did everything ethical and unethical to try to get us to leave them alone. We were not at fault, and even when we sent copies of the law, they still wouldn't pay, and played games with us. We've been trying to send the same fax for 2 weeks because they keep claiming they didn't get it, and each time we call, they dump on us for trying to send them anything at all.

It's clear that this behavior is encouraged because it's consistent across all of the agents we've dealt with.

I can't imagine what it must be like to work for them, and actively lie and cheat people for a living.

Owner of body shop

GEICO doesn't rate at all with me. I just spent all morning on the phone with an adjuster and his supervisor to try to convince them that GEICO needed to pay for the new parts that I ordered to repair a vehicle that was hit by their insured 15 days ago. Their requirements are junk yard and Taiwan parts even on liability claim!!!This old body man that's been doing fair and honest work for 30 years don't know anything?? Who's fixing this car? Diminished Value Big Time!!

Geico is HORRIBLE

I submitted a payment online and received a confirmation. Geico cancelled my policy so I called. I gave them the confirmation #. All they could say is that they could not find the confirmation, EVEN THOUGH I GAVE IT TO THEM! I had to restart the policy so I could drive home from work with no worries. Instead of the $99 that I usually pay, I had to pay $400 to restart and my premium jumped to $189. Geico is a rip-off and, believe me, I will definitely be looking for another company!

Don't use Geico claim express

We got suckered into using Geico Claim Express by their promises of a quick turn around on our auto repair and by their promise to stand by the work as long as we have the car. We were promised that our adjustor would oversee the work and keep us in the loop. Our car was first promised to us last Tuesday. When my wife hadn't heard anything, she contacted body shop who next promised Thursday, then Friday, then Monday, and now a whole week later and we still don't have our car. Called Geico to ask about a rental and they said that's between us and the body shop despite the fact that Geico made the assertion along with the body shop that we would have the car last Tuesday.

Awesome Customer Service

I had great experience with Geico Claims department. My car got hail damage and I didn't call Geico to file a claim. My neighbor called them for a claim and Geico people knocked every door in our neighborhood and settled claims on the spot. I was amazed by their customer support.

Extremly poor customer service and communication

I received a past due notice threatening to cancel my insurance on October 11, 2011. Geico failed to provide me with any prior notice either by email or mail on the renewal of my policy which they issue every six months. In the two years I have been with Geico I have always paid my premiums in advance and take exception to their notice. In six months I will return to Amica, a company that I had been with for more than thirty years.

Geico ..CROOKS!

Geico can spend millions of dollars on advertising but will not honor any claims properly. A policy is a legal contract. Geico employees are taught to cut every claim down to nothing or find grounds to drop claims on illegal grounds. Geico feels that they can hide behind the corporate mentality of ripping off the consumer. I have close friends who work for Geico and they tell us stories about Geico's corporate policy that are just so unjust and illegal that one finds the information very disturbing. Geico will send out a rep to travel 400 miles to try and dispute a 500 dollar claim. They will not use new parts ..only knock off and inferior parts to repair the few claims they do fulfill. Just go online and research the lawsuits and consumer reviews and ratings for Geico. You will see that most of the customers of Geico are very angry at Geico for their illegal treatment. Gieco hires young ignorant college grads who ...well let's say can not find a job anywhere else...the lowest of the scum barrel. Do NOT do business with Geico...that I can tell you is the best advice!

Pretty pleased

I had at accident not at fault, the other person had same Geico insurance, I didn't have any problems (it cost ~$4000). In the winter my windshield cracked from one side to another, I submitted the claim online and in 2 hours I got a phone call back from Geico, same day I got the windshield changed. I recently moved to FL, at DMV I was told I need Florida insurance and I called Geico, I could talk immediately with someone and I asked to send a fax with the insurance card saying Florida on it, I got the answer "Done" in seconds. My experiences were good so I'm shocked to see such a low rating from others.

Bad customer service.

I guess low rates will only get you so far until you get into an accident. Waited 5 days after the accident to get a call back from their claim dept. And this is just the beginning.

I had to deal with the other person's insurance company myself and get my car repaired. Geico didn't do a thing to help me.

I'm definitely going to switch. Geico is the worst company I ever dealt with. The low rate is not worth all the hassel and aggravation it caused me.

Bogus claim

GEICO put a claim against my insurance for $600 for a claim by someone I don't even know. I never hit anyone, never gave my insurance information to anyone, never gave my name to anyone regarding any claim. When I asked why they did this, I was told that they were notified by another driver that I rear ended her. I think I would remember that! Have no idea who this woman was, they wouldn't give me her name, and I didn't even know it was on my insurance until I switched and the new insurance agent told me I had an "incident" on my record. I know this sounds absurd but I swear it happened.

Got rearended by Geico family member

Geico is awful!!! Got rear ended by one of their insureds while sitting at an intersection. Has been nothing but problem after problem. After one week, still without a rental car. They always have some excuse. And, after setting up an appointment, their tow truck was 2.5 hours late with no update or apology.

You would think when their insured rear ends someone, they would try to provide some level of service. I would not want Geico dealing with someone that I just rear ended. Be advised. They are a lawsuit waiting to happen.

REDEEMED

GEICO'S GECKO is snake-related and the companies tactics and employees have been NICELY trained to fruitfully believe that they are exhibiting an acceptable norm of service to their clients. Unfortunately, a massive number of people have been fooled into thinking that they are saving with this company.

Be warned, DON'T SUBMIT A CLAIM and expect fair treatment.
In addition, the redeemed should recall the snake antics in the beginning and the fall of man and woman.

My suggestion pray, before you purchase insurance this or any companies insurance!

GEICO HANDLES CUSTOMER AND CLAIMS LIKE TRASH

FOR A CLAIM THIS YEAR, I HAD TO DRAW SEVERAL DIAGRAMS USING A COMPUTER WHICH WAS DIFFICULT AND IMPERFECT BECAUSE THE COMPUTER MAKES IT CARD TO SHOW WHAT HAPPENED.

I HAVE A DRIVING HISTORY OF 30 YEARS WHERE I CAUSED NO ACCIDENTS.
I HAVE BEEN A CUSTOMER WITH GEICO SINCE 1986-87.

ON THE DAY OF A PARKING LOT INCIDENT IN JANUARY 2011, I WAS GIVING A RIDE HOME TO (3) EMPLOYEES AT MY JOB, THEY ALL PILED IN MY CAR AFTER 6 PM WHEN THEY MISSED THEIR BUS. NO ONE WAS IN THE PARKING LOT, NO MOVING VEHICLES. I LOOKED BEHIND TO THE BACK SEAT TO MAKE SURE MY GUESTS WERE COMFORTABLE. I LOOKED AROUND THE VEHICLE.

A DRIVER COLLIDED WITH MY VEHICLE WHEN HE WAS GOING TO FAST THROUGH A PARKING LOT AT NIGHT. THERE WAS NO SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE BUT HE WANTED A POLICE OFFICER THERE TO REPORT.

HE LIED ON RECORD TO POLICE AND TO GEICO AND HIS INSURANCE COMPANY -- BECAUSE HE DIDN'T WANT TO ADMIT HE WAS GUILTY. THAT THE ACCIDENT WAS CAUSED BY HIM SPEEDING THROUGH THE PARKING LOT. HE SAID HE WAS PARKED BEHIND ME, AND HE WAS NOT PARKED BEHIND ME. I HAD 3 WITNESSES IN THE CAR AND THEY VERIFIED THAT HE WAS NOT THERE.

GEICO DID NOT CONTACT ONE OF MY WITNESSES. MY CAR WAS THE SMALL HYUNDAI ELANTRA, THE OTHER VEHICLE THAT HIT ME WAS A TOYOTA SEQOIA. GEICO PAID THE DRIVER OF THE TOYOTA $1300 FOR HIS OLDER MODEL VEHICLE AND PAID ME $0. THEY ESTIMATED MY DAMAGES TO BE APPROX. $550 ($500 DEDUCTIBLE).

THIS IS NO WAY TO TREAT A CUSTOMER. GEICO DID NO INVESTIGATION AND AUTOMATICALLY TOOK THE SIDE OF THE OTHER DRIVER, WHEN I AM THEIR CUSTOMER.

THE POLICE REPORT DID NOT FIND ME AT FAULT, THAT SHOULD GIVE YOU A CLUE THAT I DID NOT CAUSE THE ACCIDENT.

THERE WAS EVEN A REPORT BY A SECURITY GUARD THAT DAY, AND THAT WAS NOT CHECKED EITHER.

I WILL BE MOVING MY INSURANCE TO ANOTHER AUTO INSURER EVEN IF IT COSTS MORE TO DO SO.

GEICO SHOULD SPEND MORE MONEY ON LEARNING HOW TO PROCESS CLAIMS AND INVESTIGATE AND LESS ON TV JOKES.

Mr

i had geico and my daughter bought a new car. the insurance was changed and about six months later she had and accident. geico said they had no insurance on this car the insurance was still on the car that was traded. we had totaled car and because it was her fault damages and medical bills on her and the other car owner. should have changed then. a year or so goes by my daughter get married and moves away. geico would not take her off my insurance. after months of faxing them proof of her address they change my coverage to liability only and find out about a few months later from my auto loan company not geico. my bill didn't go down. i finally had them change this after her mother-in-law who worked for another insurance company faxed about tenth fax with her mortgage info stayed on the phone with the person to confirm they had received it. that was it. on march15 2011 i went with another company. by policy was not up until April 1 2011. today i get a letter from a collection agent saying i owe geico $70 and some change. call. they want to start that fax game over again. i refuse. after talking with a lady out of VA. it was taken care of. just got email from Brent Peters to start this all over.

HORRIBLE

If you use Geico, just know that if your car is damaged they will fight tooth and nail to prove everything you say is wrong. If they can weasel their way out of paying for ANYTHING, they will. I have spent literally hours on the phone arguing damages, and it is like being put on a witness stand. In the end, they just wear you down and you throw your hands up and pay for the repairs yourself.

My advice, find another insurance company!!!

Nothing like being kicked to the curb...

Been a Geico customer for years,(we're divorced now!) fine until a teen driver t-boned me at 90mph. My car was totaled (my body almost totaled too) I got bottom dollar for my car, $5.00 each for 4 brand new tires, and an 800 # that refused to cooperate or help in any way. I'm still in so much pain, lawsuit didn't go well because of a bad lawyer. I had to pay all medical bills $35K even though I had full coverage, from a paltry lawsuit that didn't leave me enough for 1/2 a car. Thanks Geico, stick it to the loyal customer again!

Made the unfortunate switch to GEICO to save some green. Biggest mistake of my life! Got severely hurt after our car was struck. GEICO was nowhere to be seen and didn't want anything to do with me or my passengers. GEICO had local agent to contact and then dragged their feet and denied, denied, denied.

GEICO will spend top dollar to not pay claims hiring the most expensive attorneys and then drag the case out until you are ruined. That is the sad truth my friends. . .

THEY ARE TERRIBLE-If there was a 0 for rating, that's what I'd give them

First off, I was in an accident.....the woman hit me. Without any real information and within 30 seconds of my initial call to them, they said it was my fault. I told them that I would like to fight it because of the circumstances, the man didn't even want to deal with it and rushed onto the next question. They set up my towing and the body shop to take it for repairs. Which by the way had an insurance adjustor with an office in it.....conflict of interest to me. I tried to contact the adjustor for 2 and a half weeks. Couldn't get her to return calls. Never answered the phone after about 3 pm in the afternoon.

Finally my car was done. I picked it up and got it about 4 miles down the road, it started rattling and clanking and shaking around. It sounded like it was going to fall apart. We drove it back and had the shops production manager take a test drive in it. We were able to duplicate the sound and they heard it. The following day I received message that the production manager couldn't duplicate the sound and they were unable to hear anything to fix. They said if there was a sound it was a suspension bearing and wear on the tire. My car had NEVER made any kind of noise or rattle. I've never heard any car shake and rattle the way my 2007 did. Its a fairly new car. I am the first owner of it and take care of it. It was on the same side my car was hit and badly damaged. They lie they lie they lie. They continued to say that it is wear and tear on the vehicle and had nothing to do with the accident. They also said that the accident would have no affect on the suspension of the car. i called Dodge and they said absolutely an accident could cause damage to the suspension. It seemed like Geico didn't want to pay for anything. Ive been a customer of Geico for 10 years and have never tried to "get over on them" Ive had one claim and it wasn't my fault over 5 years ago. They are terrible and treat their customers like CRAP! I'm taking my car to another shop and i hope they find more damage from the accident and Geico has to pay. I'm canceling my policy and telling everyone I know to get rid of Geico. I will have lawyers involved. I HATE THEM!

Stay away from Geico!

I had a credit on my account from a misplaced payment. They sent me a refund check. Then I had a rate increase, found a new carrier. I ask the women on the line if I owed anything, she said no. I dated my new Allstate account based on that information. That was April 30th, 2011. Fast forward to May 31st 2011. I get a bill in the mail from Geico saying I owe $122.74. What? I am confused? Supposedly the refund check and the misleading information the rep told me ended up being wrong. Now I am a business owner and If I make a mistake I don't nail my customers for it. Got into a long debate with a Geico :supervisor: hoping he could clear the mess. He told me: sir I cannot do anything. We are sorry we gave you the wrong information but you still owe us! I said, "For what? You guys made the mistakes!" Needless to say he said I would go to collections if I didn't pay it. Ha- I have refereed so many clients to Geico and will NEVER, EVER, EVER do that again. A big fish in a small pond- Geico is not a nice as they pretend to be. Watch out.

DO NOT BUY GEICO IF YOU WANT THEM TO PAY CLAIMS

I have been a loyal Geico customer for over 5 years. Recently I had an accident in which I was injured. I paid for $10000 worth of medical expenses on my policy but they maxed my payments to $3000. How am I responsible to pay my payments on time to keep my policy but when I need my policy I don't get what I pay for? This seems corrupt and unfair. I would not recommend Geico to anyone!!! American Family was my previous insurer, the only reason I did go with them is because they were more expensive. The saying is true you get what you pay for, I never had any problems with American Family but Geico is dishonest!

Punishes Wife for Husband's Driving Record

This company will gladly take your money, but they will ditch you at the slightest hint of trouble. Not the kind of company that you want to have your back, which is the whole purpose of any insurance!

I recently received notice that GEICO refuses insure ME because of an issue on my husband's driving record.

My husband was wrongfully charged with a DUI, but all charges were dismissed in court. Once everything was cleared up legally, my husband received notice from GEICO that they were refusing him coverage even though the DUI was wrongfully charged.

Even more frustrating, GEICO's "policy" says that since I am his spouse, I am not eligible for insurance essentially by association of sharing the same last name. My driving record is completely clean.

When I discussed this with a representative, they claimed that almost all insurance company's have the same policy, and I am un-insurable.

I called Progressive.

They not only gave me a better rate, but they didn't punish me for a situation that 1) was resolved and determined illegitimate and 2) had nothing to do with my own driving record.

This situation was easily resolved by getting a new insurance company, but it shouldn't have happened. Save yourself the time (and money!). Pass by GEICO and find another company that values you as a customer.

Geico Policy Holder

The customer service at Geico is terrible! We were accused of a hit and run accident and so we were frantic and called our insurance company thinking they would protect us! WRONG!!! Our agent Ramonica Kemp did not try to protect us in any way and in fact gave our information to the other party. We requested that she not pay this claim until all police reports and other investigations were complete! She did just the opposite and paid the clain. Ramonica Kemp would not tell us what the damages were or the cost of repair nor would she show us any pictures of the damaged car. Now that's customer service!! It only pays to lie and cheat about auto accidents because Geico has shown us that their own clients are not important. If this is the kind of company you want then Geico is for you, but for me I've already gotten a new company with higher rates thanks to Geico and I don't mind paying it because I am not with Geico any longer!!

i was happy with Geico until I got into a small accident.
It was not a collision claim but for a comprehensive claim.
I took my car to a local body shop and the shop gave me a estimate
With the customer satisfaction as their main goal. I filed a claim with
Geico and i was told to bring it to their adjuster. I met with their
Adjuster and gave him my written estimate from the body shop and boy I got
A surprise! This adjuster didn't even look at the the estimate and wrote
His own estimate. My deductible was $100.00 and this yahoo
Wrote and estimate of $102.57...
Geico do nit have it's customer as their priority!
Their main priority is not to pay anything! The body shop wants his customer
To be happy with their work but Geico don't care
About their customer they just want to do all
They can not to pay out anything!

Geico sucks and I think they are a scam!!
I'll just finish my term and will be looking for another
Insurance.

My recommendation to all that is looking for insurance
Not to pick Geico! They want your money but when it comes
Down to it they will not take care of you!

Geico refuses to refund me remaining balance

I used to own a car insured with Geico, and I sold my car in Jan 2011. when I called Geico to cancel my policy, and since they deducted the money in advance, they owed me a remaining balance. I have never received the check of the remaining balance until March 2011, they claimed that they sent it twice to an address that is different from the my address on file (I do not really know why would they do so ) so I asked them to send it again and confirmed the address to them. however, 2 weeks later, I purchased another car, so I called them to insure the new car, this time they asked me if I was married, (Fact: I am engaged and planning the wedding next June 2011) so I gave them my future wife's name, and was shocked that they added her to my insurance policy, a week later, I got the check of the remaining balance in both my name and my future wife's name on it. the bank refused to cash the check as it is not in my name alone. I tried to explain to Geico that my future wife has never been to the US, and she has no Social Security number, but they still insisted that they cannot send me a check in my name alone, they want her to send them a paper from overseas authorizing them to give me my money back.

FACT 1: I paid this money from my own credit card account, and I was single then
FACT 2: they tried to send the money to wrong addresses with my name alone on it
FACT 3: having a new policy with her name on it, make the new check in both names instead of my name alone, although they were sending it before in my name alone

I asked them to refund the money to the card, and they also refused. they are using my money all these months, and refusing to give it back to me, and I do not understand why I should beg for my own money.

I did not ask for my wife's name to be on the policy, and they keep telling me that they want to protect her rights.. excuse me... but that was my money, and I was single when I paid it, now they want proofs??!!!!! why did not they ask for proofs when they added her name too? why is it always easy to take money, but hard to return it??? I believe that if they wanted proof that I am still not married, they should have asked for a proof that I was married the first time! if they asked for that then they would have understood that I was not married.. they just want to keep this money with them the longest period they can, so they can make money of me.

I have been very loyal customer with them, paying always in advance, and never got any ticket or been into any accident before!

Over the 40+ years I have submitted many claims and I've never had a problem with them being honored and processed. Their staff as well as their adjusters have always been friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable. I really think they value customer service and loyalty. GEICO Claim Service-What claim Service????????????

A car "ran" a stop sign and demolished the front end of my 2010 Lexus IS 25 (only 4,000 miles)....The saga begins:

Geico violates it's own policy and procedures (as outlined in their "marketing propaganda) by taking 8-9 days for a repair quote in THEIR collision facility. I am told by a repair shop "claims adjuster"that ONLY "after market" parts will be used.

I "balk" at their offer as the car is brand new and the lack of knowledge about ie: adjuster does not know what an ASE certified mechanic is.....

Car moved to a private repair facility which Geico issues a check for over $13,000. I offer to pay $3,000 to get OEM parts. Offer accepted.

I wait patiently for vehicle repair- Collision shop says waiting
for "frame repair" to begin....The accident occurred late December 2010 and it is now mid March and no repair-NO communication from repair shop.....

Call Geico and district repair manager tells me although Geico paid repair shop over $13,000 the facility will NOT repair my auto because of "verbal disagreement" I had with them. Does NOT care that Geico "out" money but sounds like he wants to teach me a "lesson".....

Hand case over to prominent local attorney..I have had ENOUGH!

Is this what the "sage of Omaha" calls "value repair"

As my late father said "This to shall pass" and there 'ARE NO FREE LUNCHES"....GEICO should change their advertising logo to.

Geico sucks, unreasonable rate

This company should go bankrupt, they spent so much money on advertisement and earn it back from draining the consumers' blood. I don't even know why there are people buying insurance from Geico, they have the worst rate ever, averagely 3 times more from the market price. My car was hit and totaled from a driver who's 100% at fault and he had Geico as their insurance, they inspected my car and gave me a unreasonable estimate, my car worth $12000 from Kelley Blue Book and Geico only tried to pay me 5000, and they didn't even pay me until 2 years later until I gave up and called, and I had to pay for the towing and storage. They suck! You must be stupid and dumb as hell if you're using Geico. Drop it asap.

ZERO loyalty to customers.

I had Geico for over 17yrs, never had a single claim. As a scientist, l had every discount available and the best driving record. I got a DUI (regular, not extreme), l received the cancellation notice prior to THE CALL. THE CALL was to inform me that my rate would increase from $89 a month to $500 a month and a $5000 deposit. Loyalty is not a term that this company knows, they are cheap, and that's what they are CHEAP.

Awful!

I have never in my life had such an awful experience with my auto ins. policy. I was hurt badly by another Geico driver who was 100% at fault according to Geico. Geico will deny most if not all your med.bills even if you are knocked unconscious, 2 a herniated discs, neurological issues from concussion and a herniated discs along w 2 bulging discs. So what if you have a high PIP policy, doesn't matter. A year later they are still denying medical payments even after they had their own IME DR's say I needed on-going treatment. yes, they are a little cheaper but if you have a crystal ball that says you will never have an accident in your life..than go for it. if you are smart, cough up a few extra bucks and save years of stress.

NEVER AGAIN

I recently signed up for Geico insurance for my lease vehicle. When I applied they quoted me a price and gave me a policy. After 2 months I was out of work and was late with my monthly premium. They told me not to worry and I made the payment. A couple of days later I was informed by my lease holder that they had been notified by Geico that I only had liability coverage and nothing else. When I called customer service I was told that they had found a "past due" amount on a previous policy and until I paid them I could only get basic liability. This caused my lease holder to shut down my car until I had full coverage. This in turn cost me a job because I had no transportation. When I called the customer service rep and explained this to them they could care less. Then about 2 weeks later I received a letter from DMV saying that I had a lapse in my coverage and had to pay a $100.00 fine to reinstate my plates. Again Geico could care less. Needless to say I will NEVER use Geico again

Beware of Geico - They'll get you in time!

I've been with Geico for over seven years and have been very pleased. Recently, my wife was in a parking lot and when opening her door put a very small dent in another vehicle. The damage was so minimal it was almost undetectable on the dent ridden car she came in contact with. In December 2010 there was a mix up and Geico terminated our policy. I immediately called them and got the policy reinstated. To my surprise, my six month rate went up close to $250.00. The excuses given to me were so ridiculous I couldn't believe it. With Geico, loyalty doesn't matter to them. Their underwriters are from the depths of hell and don't care. Be ware of Geico. Just wait. In time you'll get ripped off.

GEICO IS THE WORST INSURANCE EVER!!!!!GEICO SUCKS!!!!!GEICO SUCKS !!!!!SCREW GEICO

I recently had my vehicle vandalized right in front of my house a couple of days before Christmas 2010 that resulted in an estimated cost of damage of about $1500...After doing the normal procedures i.e. take pictures, make a police report, finally call to make claim....Because i had a small lapse between switching car insurances and the incident happened the following day after changing to Geico, A Geico representative reported that it raises a red flag...So i think OK that sounds legit after all this was such a coincidence that my vehicle got broken into the next day after transferring insurances. So i fax them the police report, made a recorded statement over the phone and explained the whole situation. About a week later a Geico Investigator comes to my home and records another statement which i still didn't mind doing, i show him the pictures of the vehicle of the day it was vandalized, i tell him that my fiance is a witness who lives with me and that also my neighbor had come home early in the morning around 2:30am the morning of the incident and noticed that my car was still fine which leaves me to believe that the incident took place between then and the time i seen my car vandalized 10:00am that same morning. Then he asks me if i would be willing to give up my phone records. Now i don't know about anybody else but for me that raises my red flag and even though i have nothing to worry about and I'm definitely not trying to pull any schemes, this investigator made me feel like i was the perpetrator. It's been a week and a half already and Geico has not done one thing to help me with my claim. I don't believe anyone should have to go through such hassle to get a claim. I will definitely be changing my insurance today. Any other insurance company will be better than Geico. Geico is the worst and i don't even consider them an insurance company. They seem like they are the ones who need to be investigated. Screw Geico.....

I called Geico a couple years ago to inquire about their roadside assistance coverage. They told me that it would cover our trailer which is insured by Geico. Last weekend my wife had a flat tire on the trailer. When she called Geico, they wouldn't cover it. They made her pay for it over the phone before they'd even send a wrecker out.

Geico Has Looked After Me Well

We have had 3 claims with Geico and through all of them I honestly have no complaints. They dealt with things fairly and squarely and processed the claims rapidly. One of the claims we made had no witnesses to prove that the accident was not our fault. Nevertheless Geico still processed the claim without a lot of questioning.

My only negative comment is that they appear to be a bit more expensive for auto and homeowners insurance.

Geico or ANY Insurance Company is not your friend

1. If you are in an accident and injured and you are not at fault, get a lawyer ASAP. DO NOT MAKE AN OFFICIAL STATEMENT TO THE INSURANCE COMPANY, let your lawyer do it. It is the ONLY way you will get a fair settlement for your injury. Talking to a Personal Injury/Auto Accident lawyer for initial advice is FREE, check your Yellow Pages, there are TONS of them listed with ads.

2. Insurance Companies are in business to make money and give YOU as little as they can.

3. When you buy insurance get FULL coverage other wise YOU pay out of pocket for repairs or replacement. Maybe you will get something from the other insurance company but it will take awhile. Also get as much coverage as you can afford. If you have low coverage amounts and are at fault in an accident YOU can be personally liable for damages beyond your coverage limits. In other words you can LOSE everything you own and maybe still have to pay the balance for the rest of your life.

4. If someone hits you use YOUR insurance that is why you have it in the first place. If your are not at fault they get what they pay you from the other company and in the majority of cases YOUR insurance will not go up. Typically rates go up when they pay and will not recover what they paid out.

5. Know your RIGHTS. Insurance companies do not tell you everything, they don't have to, it is their right. If you don't know them Google your questions tons of great info on dealing with specific insurance companies and insurance companies in general much of the info is from former adjusters.

Yes GEICO can be tools, dealing with GEICO on a claim now and they are being tools, but I got a lawyer and HE Deals with them now. ANYTHING I get from GEICO I read, make a copy and send the original to the lawyer. When I told them I had a lawyer they said OK asked for their name and number and that was it. However I do have to deal with the vehicle adjuster on the ACV. Now I am ready when they attempt to low ball me, I know my RIGHTS and what they can and cannot do.

6. Yup Insurance sux but in America 2010 you need it and more importantly you need to KNOW YOUR RIGHTS.

Disclaimer I am not a lawyer nor do I work for one, nor do I work for an insurance company just an educated American who Knows HIS Rights.

Not a really good company like before.

Strong: Nice customer service representative. Fair premium if your driving record is good.

Weak: Not very good customer service. Not honest. Average or below average on paying for personal injuries.

1/ Not very good customer service: We had 2 major accident and 2 minor accidents so Geico sent us a letter to ask us to call them back so they can raise the premium or they will cancel the police at the end of the contract. The problem is we did not receive it or my wife mistook it with junk mail. We had automatic payment and never check our policy card because they will be sent to us automatically. So we didn't know our police was canceled until I was stopped by police ! They could haven done it better with a follow up email or phone call or another letter.
2/ Not honest: After that, I posted a review about what happened in Geico's own customer review. When I checked today several days later, my review never showed up. So I canceled the policy today.
3/ Average or below average on paying for personal injuries: I work at a law office that handles car accident personal injuries so I know which insurance is good. Two years ago, Geico is one of the best insurance company, They're not anymore.

I got collection bill for a car i sold and the inspection ran out and the car was not driveable

Customer service sucks for geico . They say it is easy a cave man can do it. They really mean it is so easy a idiot/ retard can do it .They say yes when they should be listening. I had geico for insurance from june to august in 2010. My car was not working and my inspection ran out i sold it to a guy that likes to fix cars for a reasonable amount. The problem i they had auto billing when i stopped the insurance they insurance was never stopped they said i lapsed my insurance. well i never gotten any bills in the mail they were auto debting my savings account the banks that i delt with thought something was supious and kicked the payments out and i was being charged draft fees i called again to stop it all i hear was yes james yes james it will go in and we will bill you we promise it never was billed to my house it was auto debted again the bank called me in to come in to discuss this issue i told them that they can file a report and i will back their complaint up.

in sept 2010 i received a letter in the mail by a collections company telling me geico has a judgement against me for the amount of 27.89 that i have 30 to make a payment or it is going to court i called them back i told them they are not getting a dime that i was being billed for a bill that my policy was never active and that i stopped it and that i have no car that i sold it because the inspection ran out that it is not affordable anymore to have a car they told me that was a lie that they wanted proof that i sold it so i went to the notery where i sold the car for copies i called to let them know and they told me that it was not legit i filed a complaint with the bbb in Va let them handle it and i will counter complaint if they lie of course they are mad they want customers.

1st of all their customer service people are rude inconciderate people with no common sense in the matter they say yes when it should be ok what do you need or how can i help you and what is the problem . it is worse then a visa company telling you that your service plan went up there is no way they would bend . But i had enough i filed with the bbb about geico i told them what happen and i rated their company a poor f they fail in so many areas and i am not happy with them i will file a class action law suit against them if they think they are going to ruin my credit and my creditbility.
they are not knowledgeable and they are worthless as a company the workers can do what they can do it is the policy that company upholds that pisses me off not the people it is geico and their lame ass company

DROP GEICO (LIECO) ASAP

I was involved in a one vehicle accident, I ran off the road. Did not receive any tickets. While not being familiar with the area and needing serious medical help, I called my wife who was two miles away. I received 18 staples in my head, and a totaled vehicle.

Geico tried to accuse me of insurance fraud, being that it was a new policy on a recently purchased vehicle. Geico stated that I bought the vehicle, wrecked it, waited, started and insurance policy, then went to the hospital, then filed a police report. I CLEARLY have a police report that states otherwise.

They have refused to pay my claim, yet sill post the claim for when I got to get car insurance elsewhere. Geico will do ANYTHING they can to get out of paying, including lying, just to pay more money for their cute little commercials that recruit more victims.......I wanna squash that lizard every time I see him!!!!!!!

THEY ARE DROPPING PEOPLE LIKE FLIES!

I have been insured with Geico since I bought my car in 2007. I had relocated from Europe so I had not had insurance in a long time and was shocked to begin with at the prices but later learnt that the prices were quite good. In 2007 I had a rental car and an at fault accident which I swear was due to an issue with the Scion's steering wheel (never had an at fault accident before). They raised my rates and still I stayed with them. I had several acts of vandalism perpetrated to my car and made claims as such. I also had to use their emergency roadside service twice. I had two non-at fault accidents, one due to construction and the other was a hit and run. Each renewal period my price raised slowly up though still was considered cheap for where I live. I was recently told that in August 2010 I would see a drop in my rate as my at fault premium would be dropped down. Funny enough they decided to review my policy and I just got a letter telling me that they no longer can insure me. Among reasons were the two non-at fault accidents and also vandalism claims which have ceased over two years ago when I moved into a gated community. I was also told that my use of the roadside service were factors (should legally not be according to the Florida Insurance Commission). That said I called and argued that they simply were doing this because I was scheduled for a price drop the same month they decide to cancel my policy. They did not care and now to get insurance elsewhere it will cost me almost as much per month as it did per six months with Geico. I am so angry and they are so sleazy!

Geico cancelled policy with 20 day notice while on phone with them but didnt tell me

To make a long story short. I have to file an sr22 with my state due to an accident a couple of years back, Geico is one of the few insurance companies that do this. I have had insurance with them for a little over a year. My license was suspended because Geico failed to show proof of insurance on a specific date that I was pulled over and ticketed. I called Geico to get it straightened out and while on the phone with me they were canceling my policy but failed to tell me. The very next day I receive an email from Geico stating to log in to my account due to some policy changes. It said my policy had been canceled with an effective date 20 days out and to call a number to renew the policy. I called the number and was told they canceled my policy because my license was suspended and I had had 2 alcohol related tickets in the past 10 years. I told the lady that it was suspended because they failed to provide proof of insurance to the state which I even pay extra for.

Stay away from Geico if your driving record is not superb, past mistakes will haunt you with this company and they are disorganized and fail to file required papers with the state even if you are paying an extra fee for this. I will be going back to progressive where my business was appreciated and the customer service is on par every time.

renewal

I have been a customer of GEICO for over 20 years. I received a ticket for driving without a seat belt in December 2009. Prior to that my record was spotless. I looked at my renewal papers last week (6/2/10) and was shocked. I have 4 vehicles insured through GEICO, 3-full coverage and 1(Jeep)-liability only. I was paying about $900.00 every 6 months. My renewal papers left me stunned. My policy went up over 100% - $2300.00/6months. WOW!! I have called GEICO repeatedly and have yet to get a clear answer as to why. I am a government employee with a clean driving record. I have since called numerous insurance companies for a rate quote. All of the quotes I received were about a few hundred dollars from where i was from GEICO but nothing even remotely close the renewal. By the way I also had my home owners managed by GEICO. Sad to say but I am moving on. I was a loyal customer for over 20 years.

Beware! Bad faith claims! You will have to take them to court!

They don't like to pay claims for their own clients, much less if you're a third-party. They are saying we are 50% at fault which is ludicrous when their insured ran out in front of us making a left-turn across traffic. We are most likely going to have to take them to court to get what they should be paying us. Steer clear! Hope none of their insureds run into you. . Don't listen to the postitive reviews - I'm convinced most of them are from Geico employees who are paid to make positive reviews.

Geico Sucks! Don't buy-Boycott Instead!

I got hit by a lady that was 100% her fault. I faxed over the police report where it stated that she was 100% at fault, and they still tried to deny the claim. They are nothing but liars, and they get paid to reject claims they know they should pay for! Finally, they agreed to pay, BUT only after we yelled and screamed and threatened law suit in which we would name them all personally in the suit. That's when they decided to do the "right thing." It has been a month now, and my car is still in the shop because they only fixed it half way...Geico...what a waste and hassle and I hop they all get what they give out!

Creative Billing

After signing up online for a certain amount GEICO claimed they reviewed my driving record then doubled my cost for a policy. After some discussion I relented and paid the additional amount. One month later they again tried to bill me and claimed it was necessary to raise my rates again, quadrupling my rates. I canceled my policy and they charged me 200% of my original rate to cover me for a month and even went as far as charging me $36 for speaking to them on the phone. If I could I would make tacos out of that little lizard.....

RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, they are among the cheapest of insurance companies but, remember what your mother always told you "you get what you pay for". I had Geico for 2 years and always made my payments on time! Then I had a claim. MY motorcycle was stolen and they looked fro every loophole they could to deny my claim. They went to the extent of investigating the claim and I provided ALL the info they requested immediately! They pretty much accused me of stealing my own bike but, since they couldn't prove anything they denied my claim because my boyfriend was riding the bike BEFORE it was stolen. DON'T GET GEICO! IT IS NOT WORTH THE MONEY YOU WILL SAVE BECAUSE YOU WILL END UP PAYING IN THE END!

My teenager had a fender-bender last night, It was time for a tow truck,I called Gieco in that I KNOW I have their road side assistance, was politely informed that my car and wife's car had the coverage but my 17 year old daughter did not, then went to customer service and was told all of that was mailed to me back when. Of what I picked from my coverage , their dirt cheap road side program I'd have kept, now after being treated like that,I start shopping for insurance...

My personal experience with Geico

In May, I purchased a new Mercedes BlueTech Diesel Suv. In April, I had my first "my-fault" fender bender. My car had about $4000 in damage to the front-end. Geico paid all but my deductible and a check was cut within a matter of a few days to the auto collision center. In September, this same car was stolen from a public garage while I was away on a weekend cruise to Ensenada, Mexico. All of the electronics were stripped and the chop shop cut the wiring cable on the car. Geico expeditiously opened a claim, paid the dealership and authorized over $16000 in repairs. For the first time as a driver, at the age of 40, I've experienced a bit of bad luck. I'm so glad that I had Geico as my insurance company. It's been a traumatic experience, having a car stolen, but my Geico adjuster has been with me every step of the way.

Geico is getting yet another complaint with the Div of Ins in MA

Let me give credit where credit is due. Geico is very good at writing your policy and collecting your monthly payment. Their streamlined website makes it very simple to make changes, and their customer service representatives are always pleasant.

...THEN...

You have a claim. All of that stops and Geico's number one priority is to find a loophole they can use to deny the claim. Even if they can't find a loophole, they will just flat out deny the claim because they feel they can. They are a menace to the Massachusetts consumers, and I will do everything in my power to get them back out of my state. Things were better without them. Progressive is a direct writer and they know how to handle claims. Geico? I don't know how those POS's sleep at night.

I was rear-ended by Geico (SCREWED TWICE)

I was rear-ended by a young man that is insured with Geico at a high speed (at least 25 mph) while I was at a complete stop. He said his brakes locked up then told the police that a car pulled out from in front of him and he didn't see the cars stopped ahead. Suspicious? I think so. I did not receive a value high enough to replace the car, not even to cover the damage. It would be totaled then I would be at an even higher loss if I tried to have it fixed. I am in a lot of pain and continuing treatments. I am very disappointed by the customer service as they rush me off of the phone when I have questions. Disappointed by how Geico handled the damages to my car. I will never have Geico. They are the third largest insurance company, I believe with over 7 million customers insured and over 12 million vehicles insured. Your rates go up when you have an accident but they don't want to pay for the damages to the car. You can't get a decent car for $1,000 that's fxxxxxx ridiculous. These millions of people are paying higher rates for Geico than they would at other companies and Geico won't take care of making sure customers are satisfied with their repairs, are able to find a decent car if the car is totaled, etc. It's complete bull and I am taking my claim as far as I possibly can. I was in no way at fault for the accident and I'm the one they are trying to screw. We pay for insurance to make sure our costs do not go up so why when we are involved in an accident do they screw us and cost us even more. Over $1,000 a year to pay for insurance and when my car worth about $2,000 is totaled I can't even get that much when I wasn't at fault. I don't want to think about what the out-of-pocket costs would be for me if it were my fault.

SOOO DISAPPOINTED!!!

I've been with GEICO for over 6 years now. I had my car and house insured. I had a car accident in June 2009. The other party hit my car from the back at the stop sign. I called the police to have a police report when the accident occurred. My back was hurting a bit and my neck injured. X-rays from the chiropractor confirm everything. I called GEICO within 3 days to state what happened in the accident. After they got my statement, I started to go to local chiropractor. GEICO agent assured me I will be reimbursed for the time off from work with my medical expenses (had doctor's note temporary not eligible for work). DID NOT HAPPENED!!! 30 days later I was informed that I was at fault of this accident cause first call didn't count and the statement I gave them wasn't valid. They said it was a wrong department I talked to, even though when I first called, I talked to customer representative stating I need to file a claim.

Long story short, I was paying $145/mo full coverage ($500 deductible), I got NO REIMBURSEMENT for time off from work (even though GEICO promised to pay out), MEDICAL EXPENSES NOT FULLY COVERED, and an ACCIDENT ON MY RECORD.

I switched to AAA and I had no problems with them so far. I pay $117/mo, same full coverage, plus my house insurance is better quality as well.

DO SOME RESEARCH!!! DON'T TRUST GEICO!!

DO YOU WANT TO KNOW THE TRUTH ABOUT GEICO?

Karen Simpson; Lisa Fishman; Debra Schmidt; Jeremy Connor

Geico has the money to continuously bombard people with commercials. Do they figure things like this will not be seen? A complaint was sent to the Better Business Bureau. It included:

Enclosed please find my feedback relating to claims experience with Geico. Enclosed are photos and physical evidence info which I believe clearly show that my version was obviously correct. Physical evidence does not lie no matter how many liars appear. A claims examiner named Karen Simpson paid the other driver 100% which was about $3700.00, Geico then put this on my driving record for seven years stating that I was 100% at fault. I complained to the NY Insurance Dept. about this examiner before the claim was paid asking if I could be assigned someone more impartial. They spoke to a supervisor named Debra Schmidt. The examiner then went on to pay 100% to the other party despite any material demonstrating that he was 100% at fault. I discussed the situation with multiple supervisors and they did not correct it. Other departments say they do not have authority over the claims department. I assume this is true only when they are acting in good faith. I have paid premiums to Geico for almost 10 years with no claims. I would think that they could properly analyze a claim when I do have one.
The following is complainer's statement on the police report: " I was driving into Walmart shopping center-stopped at stop sign by Payless Shoes and inched forward to see what was behind the building on my right. As I was doing this a car came from my right- As his car was half way around the turn onto my road his fender scraped my bumper. There was sufficient room so that he did not have to scrape my car. He turned too close to my car.

"The other driver , also insured by Geico, was 17. He called his father to the scene who was a cop. His statement on the report was: " I was driving and I was attempting to make a left hand turn when the other driver rolled through a stop sign. When I saw him I stopped in the middle of my turn and he kept moving forward and hit me. I also had the right of way. I had no stop sign."

First driver submitted the following points to the Geico claims department consistent with and in support of his version. Confirmed by photos of damage at scene:

1. About a dozen very long scratches can be seen at the point of impact consistent with the other car scraping me not my hitting him with my bumper corner once going forward.
2. my bumper corner is covered with rubber from other car's tire inconsistent with my hitting him going forward. It is consistent with his tire digging into my bumper as he turned.
3. There is rubber on the side of the bumper corner inconsistent with the position he describes.
4. If this were reenacted cars would not be in each other's path. I was turning right onto his road. He was turning left onto my road. You cannot go forward at this stop sign. A left turn would be leaving the lot which I had just entered a few feet down the road. This was confirmed by witness.
5. There is damage by the other car's door handle. This is inconsistent with me hitting him with my bumper corner going forward. Damage is too high.
6. I would have had a very long time to put on my brake before the cars got in the position he describes. First contact was between my driver side bumper corner and about an inch past his driver side door. He was coming from my right slowing for a turn and he says I was rolling.
7. Why would he stop in my path as he describes instead of continuing and getting out of my path? Could he have thought that it was to his advantage to say he was stopped? In a later statement to insurer he says he tried to go around me but I clipped him
8. Damage on his car started about an inch past his drivers door running past his tire. This is consistent with him scraping me as he was parallel to me making a turn into my road. Inconsistent with me hitting him once with the corner of my bumper going forward. Too long an area.
9. Both Geico appraiser who did estimate on my car and his supervisor said my car was stopped at point of impact and another car rubbed against it. They said this was due to lack of damage and compression. This was written on my Geico estimate. They considered this conclusive because they did not even reach the above items to consider.

The Better Business Bureau submitted the above to Geico. Geico submitted the following answer completely ignoring and not responding to the above physical evidence. Relying on people who contradict the physical evidence. :Claim 019438000101013. -------------------- The accident was reported by our insured stating that he was driving into parking lot and stopped at stop sign. He was inching forward to see into the intersection when other driver cut his turn too close striking his vehicle. The other driver's statement was that he was making a left turn when other driver ran the stop sign hitting him. (this driver was also insured by Geico.) The police report cited first driver for failing to yield right of way as a contributing cause of the accident. An outside witness stated that first driver was driving erratically and went through stop sign and hit other vehicle. First driver was found 100% responsible by Geico. As a customer service we changed file to 66% at fault. If any additional information is needed contact Lisa Fishman Claims Supervisor at 800-645-7550 x5291. Very truly yours, Jeremy Connor, Regional Liability Director

Complaining policyholder responded generally as follows again asking Geico to respond to the physical evidence. Reply included the following: This is in reply to the silly Geico response. As previously discussed I think this matter comes down to the physical evidence which they once again ignore. This matter will not be resolved in my opinion unless they give a reasonable explanation for each item of physical evidence which does not lie. The physical evidence remains regardless of how many liars appear or whatever personal problems any claims examiner has. What a shame. I was not "cited" for anything. The witness states that I was not going more than 4 miles per hour. Could someone explain how over $3000.00 of damage could be done at that speed? The drivers fender is totally bent in. Geico's own adjuster put on my estimate that I was stopped and another car rubbed against mine. Prior to this I had a perfect driving record. The police saw there was nothing wrong with me. Why would I be driving erratically? When your dealing with people who will say anything its good to know that you have an insurance company that will step up to the plate and do the right thing. To resolve this matter I request a reasonable explanation of each item of physical evidence or changing it to not at fault.------------ The Better Business Bureau sent the above to Geico again requesting an explanation of the physical evidence. Geico sent the following response again blatantly ignoring the physical evidence.-------We have received your correspomdence requesting that we reconsider our liability position on this claim. As stated in our response policyholder was found 100% negligent for this loss based on our investigation . As a customer service to him Geico changed the liability on his file to 66%. We feel our handling of this matter was fair and accurate. Our position remains firm. If any additional information is needed please contact Lisa Fishman Claims Supervisor at 1-800-645-7550-x5291 Very truly yours, Jeremy Connor,, Regional Liability Director-------

After the Insurance Department spoke to Geico they had ageed to pay 1/3 of policy holders damage. This seemed unusual when they already paid the other party 100%. They now call this a customer service. Driver could not accept this since he felt no way at fault. He therefore has not been paid for his damage and has not had his car repaired. It still states 100% at fault on his driving record. The NY Insurance Department has no power to do anything about how a company settles a claim no matter how ludicrous it is. Geico apparently knows this. The Insurance Department wrote a letter stating: "Our review of the matter involving two Geico insureds would indicate that 1st driver could be considered not at fault based on an examination of pictures of the vehicles involved in the accident. The damage to the adverse vehicle indicates the vehicle was in motion across the path of 1st drivers vehicle." Insurance Dept. complaint # 525200. This corresponds to what the Geico adjuster wrote on the estimate.

The above is DC Better Business Bureau complaint # 35CS-849%. This Better Business Bureau where Geico is headquartered has them rated "F" for a large number of complaints and failing to respond to complaints. Companies such as Liberty Mutual and State Farm have "A" ratings at their headquarter locations. I wonder if Geico thinks they can cover this with a few extra commercials. Since there were two Geico policyholders two separate examiners worked on the case one for each party's claim. Right before the claim was settled the examiner handling my claim against the other driver left Geico.

You really have no choice of repair shop - unless you want to pay AGAIN !
Geico has pre-negotiated rates for glass replacement. They assert these are the prevailing fair and reasonable rates. If you go anywhere else to have your car repaired expect Geico to short pay your claim. This you have no ability to choose a shop and get quality work done for you.

I had an accident involving a Geico customer were they pulled out in front of me while I was doing 40 mph. My truck was totaled and Geico was quick to settle on my truck within a day, knowing that I was under heavy sedation from medication. They did not give me what my truck was worth. It took four months for them to settle the medical bills. It was virtually impossible to get the adjuster to call you back. When you finally got in touch with them they would tell you half truths and not indulge in any information that you really needed to know. I finally gave up on the adjuster and got in touch with her supervisor. He seemed to know less than she did and did not want to help either. My advice is to anyone that gets involved in an accident with a Geico customer is to consult an attorney ASAP you will be glad you did.

I submitted a medical payments (med pay) claim. Very simple. I even faxed them the accident report, records and bill from one doctor visit. So far, 3 people have told me 3 different things and still no check. The 'customer care' people are rude and disrespectful. Complaints

As a consumer myself I think it is very important for people to expose the seedy underbelly of any operation that might cause harm to others. I for one have read each and every single complaint that folks have listed here. In the "majority" of cases I can tell you that most of the issues have to do with the individual not utilizing common sense and simply taking care of business in a responsible and common fashion. That being said I also know that employees of any company can and do make mistakes. I think that this website would be much better served if they would allow insurance companies to either contact and fix the problem to the customers satisfaction or be allowed to post an immediate rebuttle after a full investigation has been made. How can this website be useful when ALL the companies listed have low satisfaction ratings... All these companies do not have low satisfaction ratings in reality and so when a customer is looking for help they really are getting nonsense and may not go with the best company for their dollar after reading a small unrepresentative sampling of a very very few people. Geico is the 3RD LARGEST insurer in the US and has the best customer service and prices available with the best interactive website I have ever seen and is as generous as any other TOP QUALITY company from what I have seen too. I have a background in sales management and training with AAA, State Farm and now GEICO and I can tell you from personal experience that these three Companies are some of the VERY best around yet if you compare companies on this website you would not know it..... Folks USE COMMON SENSE and realize a blog of some folks who are not satisfied is not the way to figure out who to insure with.... Check out JD POWER AND ASSOCIATES who is a rating company along with AM BEST who is a financial stability rating company along with your own cost comparisons. Last but NOT LEAST inquire with your states very own Department of Insurance and investigate the "complaints" section "ONLINE". These are serious complaints that the state has looked into and found them to be actually "CREDIBLE". You will be able to find actual and factual statistics that can help you truly decide who you should be insured with based on how many credible complaints are filed and upheld by the state in comparision to the number of insureds within that given state. Translated this basically means that they figure out how many credible issues per 100000 insureds or whatever number that state uses for their statistics. This percentage is VERY telling so check it out. Get informed and do not be "misinformed" by someone who cannot see past perhaps there very own personal bias. We are all biased in some way as imperfect people especially when it affects us financially. Be informed properly, statistically and more importantly honestly.
Good Luck in your search for the truth... The views I have expressed here are not officially that of Geico Insurance Company but are my very own private thoughts.

I got into an accident, which was not a result of my fault. This is the first and only accident so far I have ever had. I went on geico website, logged in and clicked on report n accident. It brought me to the "report a loss report". The first thing that says on top is "do not file this report if you ae not planning on claiming damages," which I was not planning to b/c I only had a small bump, which is lower then the deductible. I called Geico customer services to make sure I don't have to file or report anything. The person at Geico said I don't have to do anything but he didn't ask my name or insurance policy number, so they didn't recod the conversation and I didn't get his name. Later on I got the letter that I'm being sued and Geico refused coverage b/c I didn't properly and timely report an accident. This company will scue over any good, loyal customer.

They take your money claiming they insure travel trailers in Massachusetts, then refuse to provide proper documents so you can get your trailer registered. Then when you try to call to cancel all the agents are conveniently busy, they take your name and number and never call you back.

Geico Engages in False Advertising

DO NOT BUY INSURANCE FROM GEICO.
-They outright LIE about their policies. Their customer service representatives are rude.
-They make customers think that their policy is "state law" and then after you've used their misinformation to buy insurance with them they tell you it is really "their" law.

-GEICO ENGAGES IN FALSE ADVERTISING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Claims

I have been a long standing customer with no prior claims. I was involved in a car accident that was not my fault and had severe damage to my back. The person that hit me had no insurance. The claims adjusters were rude and ultimately denied my claim. I am left with over 30,000 in med bills to be paid by me and a herniated disk, gastritis from the injections. I would not recommend Geico to anyone. On top of that I have had to dispute the Clue reports in order to get insurance through a different company.

Geico refuses to pay me the correct value of my new total lossed car!

I leased my Prius in Jan 2009 and had an accident on March 2009. The car was brandnew and ended up in total loss due to the other driver. When I leased the car I had put down $2500 of initial payment. Today Geico is closing my lease with Toyota but subtracting my initial payment of $2500!! When I ask why the claim "specialist" said that this is the fair market value. How is it possible that the value of a Prius goes down $2500 in only 2 and half month???!! I may have to go with a litigation attorney and that pissed me off. I and my whole family (at least 10 members) will 100% leave Geico.

GEICO WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!!! GO WITH PROGRESSIVE

They have the slowest claims process ever!!! If you do not get your vehicle repaired at one of there shops, expect to be hassled and delayed. In my case there was an issue with a check being issued to the wrong person. They have quite possibly the worst customer service I have ever experienced. The whole company is a total dog and pony show. GO WITH PROGRESSIVE, I AM SAD I EVER CHANGES

Decent customer service, but don't be fooled thinking you're saving money!

I've been with GEICO for 9 years. That's a long time. I had never had an accident, and my husband had only a minor parking ticket, but out of curiosity, I shopped around in the early years of having GEICO, and found it was by far, the cheapest.

However, in October I was in a hit-and-run. The other driver was found, and cited. I learned my old car did not have Collision on it, so GEICO could do nothing to help me get the claims started. BUT-they were very caring and compassionate and even gave me advice on what I needed to tell State Farm (the other driver's insurance). Then after 2 MONTHS of hemming and hawwing, State Farm FINALLY paid to fix my car. Two days after we got it back, the motor light came on, and we found it had a very big, and expensive problem. We dumped it and bought a newer, used vehicle. Our insurance with GEICO skyrocketed! It went up $500 this year! We aren't sure how we can afford it. Our insurance only went up about $100 the previous year when we added my husband's SUV, so I can only assume that I am being punished for the accident that wasn't my fault.

I've now begun shopping around for new insurance, and realize, that even with reporting my "accident", most of the other companies quotes are cheaper or the same, for MORE coverage than I currently have. Now it's a matter of finding one that has decent customer and claims service, if, God forbid, I meet another idiot driver on the road that ruins my previously perfect record.

Get real.

People who write these reviews all share a common trait. They are unfamiliar with insurance and have no desire to have any knowledge about something that effects there lives so much. Of course an insurance company will treat a claim where the keys were used to steal a car and only vandalize it as potentially fraudulent claim. Also, the proper way for a third party to get any kind of liability payout is to sue the insured or the company that covers him. It's easier for dumb people to get on a website and complain than to look at themselves and the way they handle there lives. GEICO has excellent customer service and is rated as high as can be rated for claims services. If a customer has good credit and a good driving record there are almost no other companies that insure for less than we do. Trust in the gecko GEICO is an excellent company.

GEICO is hard to deal with

My 2008 Ford Fusion was stolen and recovered by the police a week later all the inside was stripped or rip up. My keys were lifted out of my pocket so I had to get a ride home that night. The next day I when to pick up my car, and it was gone. Philly Police located after somebody call them about people breaking into my car again. I called Geico and have been dealing with Sandra Johnson. Johnson asked my for my phone records, statement friend contact number. Everything she asked for I gave her. The phone record I blacked my friends numbers the days before the car was stolen. Johnson called my house and left a message saying the phone records were not good and I was hiding something. Hold up Im the victim, my car was stolen, and why does GEICO want my phone record anyway. Its not in writing I know I asked her were it said phone records. So I called johnson and asked her why the phone record? she wont not say anything or tell me how the report was going. My car was stolen 10/10/2008 and it is 12/13/08 and still nothing. I have called and called but get the run around. Im a iraqi freedom Vet and dont need to get this type of bull. I have been paying for a stolen car that is sitting in GEICO lot and non driveble for 2 months now . WTF. Ill never go with GEICO again. Thank you Sandra johnson

Agents and Claims Adjusters are lazy and lie.

I have patiently and politely dealing with Geico on a claim where I rear ended a car on October 24, 2008. They have supposedly paid the other person for their damage but I'm beginning to wonder since they have been stringing me along since the accident date. The adjuster told me what I should receive on my totaled car. I have sent him a copy of the paperwork he requested. For the last five weeks he has lied to me about sending the paperwork for me to sign off on. I've call his supervisor who didn't bother to return my phone call. The liability agent is a joke; she just blames it back to the adjuster. I called the main Geico number wanting to complain to someone with authority. After talking to this person for ten minutes and giving all my info, she tells me all she can do is refer me back to the liability agent. I had had no problems with Geico before either but it only because they didn't have to do any work for me. Luckily my policy will be up soon. I will leave them, not the other way around.

Gieco terrible company

Gieco uses quake doctors to research medical claims from accident. His office was below a strip club, it was a temporary office, with a for rent sign in the window. Only a receptionist & the "doctor".. never checked the medical reason for claim , big sign states cash only ..
