My home flooded two years ago - about 7 inches of water in my basement. New carpeting was ruined, along with DVDs/CD/computer, washer/dryer and some furniture. While my neighbors came to the rescue and began pumping water out, my husband called our agent to find tou what to do and start a claim. The agent told us to rip the carpet up and get it out. Three days later, the claims adjuster called to say we had no claim because the sump pump had become stuck and was not pumping water out during multiple days of heavy rain. We responded by saying our agent told us to rip up the carpet. They didn't care. We contacted a lawyer to sue for replacement cost of the carpet only - not anything else. The Allstate lawyer just laughed at us. We had to replace the carpeting and lost everything else.
