Dealing with adjustors as a victim of one of its customers

I have been trying to get a settlement from Allstate for 21 months now. Originally I had a law firm handling the case, but everyone said it would be expedited faster if I just dealt with the company as an individual. I have incurred 16,000 dollars in medical bills and the loss of my 5,000 dollar vehicle due to theit patron running a red light and totalling my vehicle. They have now been telling me repeatedly for 18 months that they are still gathering all the information. More information than the stack of faxed medical bills I sent them at a cost of 50 dollars to myself. I have 15 months before the statute of limitations runs out to file a lawsuit. I wanted to be fair and equitable and just acquire what I had lost, without a lawyer spinning it so he could get a big cut. It looks like I'm going to have to go that route as I just keep hearing an adjustor is looking it over (and over and over). It's a shame that a large company like that can't be fair and glad to deal with people who don't want to have this country run on people suing each other
